I imagine just appreciating the fact that he is supreme and sovereign, and the source of all love and life. In other words, there is absolutely no way around recognizing his magnificence, that one day without exception, all will bow down to him.
Thus, why kick against the goads, the inevitable will occur whether we like it or not. One can only live a lie for so long, the truth cannot be concealed. He is, who he is, and we have but no choice to submit.
In other words, don't desire the promises nor things to be added unto us, i.e. for he who seeks his life will lose it.
Love him becomes he's lovely, revere him because he's sovereign, worship him because he's supreme and transcendent, ...whether or not there are rewards for this recognition, but simply because it's true and deserving.
...and thus, you will see him give us more than we have asked for, or can imagine (a true paradox)!

To seek the Kingdom of God is to firstly seek to do God's will, secondly obey the commandments of God and Christ (the Law of Christ, which is the Law of Love), and thirdly to seek to bring souls into the Kingdom of God and nurture them in the faith.
When we do what is stated above we grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. And all the promises of God in Him are "Yea and Amen".
What the Lord was teaching here is that unlike the world and the ways of the world (which focus on materialism and self-gratification) the children of God must seek the glory of God and Christ, and the propagation of the Gospel, and all material needs will be met.

My point was, don't desire or focus on the blessings, despite them being the goal as far as your question is concerned, seek to praise and glorify God as he deserves, whether there be a reward or not. Similiar to what Jesus said about good works, why expect praise or reward when it is your duty to do so.
