The video and many denominations including the RCC just make it more complicated than it needs to be. We can spend our whole life working to help others and miss the gospel message. There are nothing wrong with good deeds, however, it can work to hide the simplicity of the gospel. Our reward, however, is tied to what we do because Revelation tell us when Jesus returns He "will give to everyone according to what they have done". But, if what they have done, failed to believe the gospel their reward will be diminished until they believe the truth.

Non Catholics tend to oversimplify Catholicism and Works. In my opinion. On the video there is a Jewish interviewer . He admits that Judaism is very focussed on works compared to Catholicism.

Same difference. Judaism is focused on works and Catholicism is focused on sacraments. But at least Judaism does not promote Purgatory.

So some very diligent Catholics go to Mass every day to receive the Eucharist. This is a classic example of Catholic works?

for many it is easier to develop a relationship with something that we can see such as our efforts to help others or carrying out the sacraments vs something that we can't see such as a relationship with the living Christ. But for others it is easy to hide behind our faith rather than do good works in other words we get lazy.

i always envisaged works as volunteer and charity work. my catholic brother spent two years in a poor country teaching. unpaid volunteer. I dont think he was trying to score points with God though. maybe he was.

oh, i'm sure there are Catholics who have placed their faith in Christ and are spurred on to doing good works by this same faith, however, the institution of the Catholic Church and what they teach and what they emphasize is what i'm addressing in my comments. I might add that it is a constant struggle for all of us to place our faith in the right person rather than in our good works which is what our flesh desires.

To be honest it is very hard for me to change my denomination. It is almost like I have Catholic DNA. Theological debates dont sway me much.All of us know that deep down its down to our relationship with Jesus Christ. we can blame the Catholic Church, we can blame Bible obsessed Christians, but it boils down to the quality and quantity of our prayer life. Now if anyone needs to improve in that area it is me.
I was having a bad morning and I just stopped still in the car park for 5 minutes. It was like God was saying "hey. wake up. stop worrying". I need more God moments. I need more amazing grace.
