i think this division He speaks of is as that between sheep & goats, not division among His own sheep.
when the apostle beseeches us not to be always quarreling and biting at each other, but rather to be of one mind, he isn't urging us to undo the work of Christ.
I don't. All we have to do is read the next two sentences to see whom He was speaking about:

Luke 12:52,53 "For from henceforth there shall be five in one house divided, three against two, and two against three. The father shall be divided against the son, and the son against the father; the mother against the daughter, and the daughter against the mother; the mother in law against her daughter in law, and the daughter in law against her mother in law."

If we are truly living for God, the world will find fault with us. Even doing it in God's name, like the Pharisees of Christ's time.

When Jesus had just finished telling the rich young man to sell all his worldly possessions and follow Him, He clarified that only those called can serve:

Matt. 19:25,26 "When his disciples heard it, they were exceedingly amazed, saying, Who then can be saved? But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible."

By implication, if I am doing something for the cause of Christ that you are not--you will become offended. One keep God's Commandments, another doesn't and is offended. We can say it does not bother us but are we really honest?

i think that not caring whether your understanding and belief about the things of God are true or not is a pretty terrible state of affairs.

perhaps someone can tell me whether my thought is theologically correct or not .. ?
I do care about understanding and knowledge. But this is never static. It is always being refined and evolving......especially when it comes to God! I don't think God is a doctrine or reducible to human formulas. There are trillions of galaxies in our universe.....and I think I can have God down as a set of beliefs?!

what about these verses makes you think that Jesus came to divide His own disciples against each other?
i'm not seeing it.

You all should already know what "sound doctrine" is; You don't need to continue to ask me to validate your beliefs.
You do know that people are asking you to validate your capacity for knowing the difference.
When you cannot elaborate as to what you believe to be sound doctrine, your OP challenge to anyone in this community becomes invalid.
But you know that as well.

God did not create you to be a Troll.
Why would you assume the role and find it satisfying as it takes up those precious irretrievable moments of a life spent this way? When time is short for all of us, as we do not know how long we shall live. Therefore, we should make a point of living well, living truth, and living in service and with gratitude to the Creative power that brought us to life.

When you die you don't want people to say, thank God. You want people to say, God have mercy, they shall be missed.
Think more of yourself than spending time trolling Christian forums.
It does not serve you well as people can choose to ignore you, and then what will you do as one starved for that kind of attention?
Be a blessing, not a curse.
Yesterday doesn't matter, tomorrow isn't guaranteed, there's only right now. Live well and think more of yourself than this.

May God have mercy.

knowledge of God is not human-originated. if you know Him, He doesn't change. if you change what you think about Him, you didn't know Him.

i don't mind having incomplete knowledge of Him now because i know that He is completing it. if i thought i would never know Him, i would be pretty concerned about that. if i thought maybe everything i know about Him is wrong, i'd be pretty concerned about that, too - i'd be putting an awful lot of effort into finding out what the truth about Him actually is :)

also do not see how the fact that all things are possible with God implies that believers should all be offended by one another?

so sheep against goats, like i said.
but you disagreed with that?
hopefully we only misunderstood each other :)
You are correct post, I just had my mind stuck with the sheep and goats scenario as a one time event at Christ's return. But it applies to now also. All I am getting at is it should not surprise us that there are differences among professing Christians. :)

Knowledge of God may not be human originated, but it is humanly understood. How do we know when we know God? When we fully love. The Good Samaritan was good because he loved.....not because of his belief structures.

1 Timothy 6:3
If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to the sound words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to that doctrine which is according to godliness,

[1] Whosoever are servants under the yoke, let them count their masters worthy of all honour; lest the name of the Lord and his doctrine be blasphemed. [2] But they that have believing masters, let them not despise them, because they are brethren; but serve them the rather, because they are faithful and beloved, who are partakers of the benefit. These things teach and exhort. [3] If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to the sound words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to that doctrine which is according to godliness, [4] He is proud, knowing nothing, but sick about questions and strifes of words; from which arise envies, contentions, blasphemies, evil suspicions, [5] Conflicts of men corrupted in mind, and who are destitute of the truth, supposing gain to be godliness.

Jesus made the reference of Matt. 19:26 to being saved. Do you not equate being saved as serving God?
also do not see how the fact that all things are possible with God implies that believers should all be offended by one another?
I did not say anything about "should" be offended. I was just making an observation that people will be offended. Which is the division I feel Christ was talking about. Maybe you live in a different universe than me.

Walk trough the valley
Do you believe it is necessary to believe sound doctrine?
Sound Teaching is to believe Jesus, "They that wait on the Lord shall renew strengh, they shall mount up with wings as eagles."
And beware of men, "They shall run and not be weary."
And be ready to die for the Faith, "They shall walk and not faint." Thankful we have a relationship with God, continuing in prayer, counting it all Joy.

and He gave pastors and teachers :)
so we could be of one mind?
but the Enemy sowed many false teachers :(
His sheep know Him and will not follow another. so the goats may be divided?

still the righteous fall 7 times and get back up. we shouldn't condemn each other, IMO ((i mean all of us, not you & i in particular))

Maybe you live in a different universe than me.
that is entirely in the realm of possibility.

what i said, i said while misunderstanding you. i thought you meant He intended us to be divided among ourselves. sorry about that bro - sorry that 'i have not yet attained' :)

yes

i do believe that only those called by Him to serve can serve Him, BTW - just didn't see how to get there from that verse

thanks

if thinking you have nothing more to learn is bad, how much worse to know you do, and not even care? :(
No. The person the person with pride of achievment is the worst off. God has to resist Him and let Him fall. 41 Years ago when I took pride in hearing the Lord, He told me: Your going to fall that you may learn to continually repent.
About 2 monts prior, when serking Him for a word for my life, He told me: Be wholehearted in My word and I will accord the a portion with the great.
These are servants that become His friends.
The learning experience from the fall was a 40 year wildernes experrience. Recently he told me: your not ready.
I will include what He said at the time.
Directions received in preparation for Journey:

"We will give ourselves to prayer."

Withhold nothing, take nothing, you have to be determined to succeed. Your prayer life must increase, content to participate in the mystery of God. Go, this is a time of prayer; it’s the only way you'll succeed. Keep yourself in the Love of God, don't give up: you’re not ready. Be still: know that I Am with you. "Wait on the Lord and He will strengthen your heart." Your prayer life has to extend in all areas of your life. What you do not realize is that the war is accomplished: it's not as simple as you getting the power, you have to Love the Truth. Give up your life, no more going back to idols.

Don't be afraid, above all surrender (give Him your fear). Don’t stay outside, don’t worry, Psalm 118. Be Faithful unto death. Seek Me more than your necessary food. Don’t fight against the Holy Ghost, give yourself to prayer. Give yourself to Him, you need to change, no longer desire earthly things, come and be reconciled. Make the most of your time, live in Prayer, don't want anything else. Don’t forget.

how do we know we truly love?

Let those who love the LORD hate evil
(Psalm 97:10)
no one is good but God alone. if Jesus is good, Jesus is God. in the parable, if the Samaritan was good, He is Christ; Christ was teaching who He is and what He does. we may think we love, and be wrong about it. we may think we know love, yet not understand it. we don't know God until we know Christ: no one has seen God at any time; the Son of God, who is God manifest in the flesh, reveals Him. all judgement is committed to Him.

it isn't wrong for God to hate, Dibby. it isn't wrong for Him to punish the wicked. all of us are worthy of destruction; it is His glory that He shows anyone mercy, at all.
