I knew five people that did it, one guy I saw the day before and many others days never was there a word mentioned about being depressed or anything, the other people I knew same thing so that’s 0-5 on the ones I knew
The fact that they either didn't reach out to you... or that you didn't hear what they were trying to say... should tell you a lot. From all I have read here, I suspect you wouldn't be a person too receptive to any pleas for help, whether veiled or plainly and openly expressed.

It's understandable that we don't want to look at the possibility that a friend came to us for help, but we couldn't hear their tiny cries. Not everyone is geared for that level of compassion. I'm not. I have to rely heavily upon my training to bring it into active interaction.

Sorry, I'm afraid that's not accurate. Other people may not be listening, but the endangered people almost always try to reach out to someone. We would be fools to only look for someone saying, "Hey, I'm thinking of killing myself." before we realize they are in trouble.
Very true. I am a teacher, and we receive training every year on the signs that a student may be in danger. Often they are things such as change in appearance, selling or giving away personal items, and verbalizing it is just one of many signs.

If I see a student disengaged or withdrawn in class, especially if this is unusual for them and they are not just introverted, I will make it a point to talk to them privately and just ask them how they are doing. This conversation will reveal a lot to me, but I am watching for signs before this conversation occurs.

What a terrible thread to post on a christian forum.
Prayer request is where this op needed to go.
How can you have love of God and say this?
JMO......
Maybe another agenda here.
Seems like an appropriate forum to me. Actually, this thread has gotten a lot of traction from the members.

I’m not going to go around and at every tiny cry a person has is a sign of suicide, that is kind of morbid thinking in my view

Of course it may not always be as drastic as all that, but it usually is someone asking for help of some kind. That is exactly what Jesus meant when he said for us to "bear one another's burdens." And if we choose not to be bothered to listen, we can rest assured we probably won't have to hear anything.

I just read a thread....third day homeless.

This is what is really sad!

Not some attention seeking person!

Let us help those who are sincere and in true need, not just a belly ache!

I guess I saw a lot more when I looked at that THIRD NIGHT HOMELESS thread than you and *Tourist* did. In that particular case, I am more aligned with *JamOn.*
