Jesus Atonement secured on the cross can pay for every sin that is forgivable done by anyone down through time.. But the critical thing which determines if a persons sins are forgiven is if they are willing to believe Jesus and Trust that His gift of the Atonement pays the penalty for all their sins...
Also your question is not that clear to me.. Not sure what you mean when you state.. ""Or was it only on the cross"" ??? what do you mean?
Scripture says He is the Lamb slain from the foundation (creation) of the world
Yes.. He offered His soul as an offering for our sins
Isaiah 53: KJV
10 "¶ Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand. {11} He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities."
He that knew no sin, became sin for us....had he taken our sin BEFORE the cross, he would have been deemed guilty by the law....it states clearly that he bore OUR SINS on the cross.....but the sureity of this sacrifice allowed God to write of it from the perspective of it being done in God's eyes before the foundation of the world.....regardless of God being eternal and outside the consteruct of time, he is BOUND BY TIMING!

31 And after that they had mocked him, they took the robe off from him, and put his own raiment on him, and led him away to crucify him.

Christ's sacrifice was not a sacrifice that was made to man for man's acceptance, but was a sacrifice to God, for God's acceptance. Christ was doing his Father's will, not man's will.
Jesus made his soul an offering FOR the sins of those that the Father gave him, but the offering was made TO God, for God's acceptance, and not to man, for man's acceptance.
The Atonement was made for sins for the sake of any human who would believe and trust in that Atonement.. God is not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance and be saved..
2 Peter 3: KJV
8 "But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. {9} The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance."

2 Pet 3:9, is misquoted by most students of the scriptures. In order to understand who Peter is talking to, we have to go back to 2 Pet 1:1 that tells us that he was talking to "them that have obtained like precious faith". Peter is giving them warning about repenting of their sins so that they will not lose their fellowship with God. Peter even includes himself, by using the word "us-ward". Perish in the Greek means "lose", Losing their fellowship with God, not their eternal salvation.
You opinion of the scripture comes from a pure calvanist viewpoint and as such it ignores what is actually said in the verse 2 Peter 3:..
If the verse is only referring to the already saved people Peter address in the opening verse of 2 Peter 1:1 and i will quote you """"them that have obtained like precious faith""" If 2 Peter 3:9 was only addressing these people who had already attained the precious faith then why would Peter be wishing for them to come to repentance???? 2 Peter 3 {9} The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance."
Peter cannot be talking about those who are already saved because they have already come to repentance as part of the process of coming to be saved... To be saved a person must repent and believe Jesus and trust in His atonement... So the verse 2 Peter 3:9 cannot be talking about people who are already saved ( the people in 2 Peter 1:1)
But such is the desperation of calvinists to force the scriptures to conform to the doctrines of Calvin that they are willing to put forward an explanation that makes no sence and all the while because of their faith in a man,,, Calvin,, they believe it does make sense..
He did not die for our sin but became a Passover Lamb for the Sincere of Heart and Disciplined that repent and turn back to the Father. I am now of the opinion he died for the fullness of grace and/or mercy; not sin.
