I've been thinking of my writing and art lately and I like to make characters who are broken. What I mean is there are humans and have many flaws. I just read someone's argument that making characters perfect upright Christian's not only unrealistic it's also bad writing. If there perfect there is no struggle, nothing to gain or learn. Lifes full of lessons to be learned and a work of fiction depicting our walk with Christ should not be different. Any thoughts? What kind of characters do you like?
 
I think I like characters either of solid honest character in impossible situations or else characters who show a lot of growth into better people and then seek to right the wrongs they've caused. Mostly I want characters to look up to or aspire to, but that means they have to face enough difficulty or struggle to be relateable.

Mmhmm same. Theres a video game called Tales of the Abyss with one of the best redemption stories I've seen. Its Saul to Paul level and the supporting characters are just as good. They have an anime version of it too.
 
"To have a good story, you have to make trouble for the main character."

If everything is perfect that's a nice life, but a terribly boring story.
