Do we need to understand the characteristics of the true God when we call on God? For 4,000 years people called on a God that didn't include Christ that they didn't know of, yet God saved the saints. We are told they were brought from their sleep when the curtain split at the time Christ's body died.

Some people have created a God in their minds who is so race conscious that He excluded gentiles from His OT teachings. Is this God they have created truly the one true God?

Gentiles was not excluded in the old testament ,Abraham was a GENTILE & Ruth & Rahab , Neither let the son of the stranger , that hath joined himself to the LORD , speak, saying , The LORD hath utterly separated me from his people: neither let the eunuch say, Behold , I am a dry tree . For thus saith the LORD unto the eunuchs that keep my Sabbaths , and choose the things that plase ME.and take hold of my covenant: Even unto them will I give in mine house and within my walls a place and a name better than of sons and of daughters: I will give them an everlasting name , that shall not be cut off . Isaiah 56:1-8 He also wanted to save the Gential If they would obey ,& keep HIS LAWS . He was NOT only THE GOD of the Jews but also the GOD of GENTILES . GOD bless as HE sees fit .
 
When we say Jesus is Lord and know He and the Father are one that we have faith in we have faith in what He is and what He tells us. God speaks to us through the word, so having faith in Christ means we have faith in what God tells us. God tells us to repent and ask forgiveness for our sin.

Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord. Acts 3:19

The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. 2 Peter 3:9

From that time on Jesus began to preach, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.” Matthew 4:17

Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest and repent. Revelation 3:19

These are just a few of the many places scripture tells us calling on the Lord is calling ourselves to repentance.
 
Religionists, Cainologists, MEN over complicate the gospel....

EVEN THEM THAT BELIEVE ON HIS NAME!!!!!

Be not REMOVED from the simplicity FOUND IN CHRIST!!!!!

I guess I don't know what it means. Are you saying believing in Jesus' name is enough to be saved? Like just believing in His name - Jesus? I guess I don't understand.

Since dcon is not answering your question directly, you are to believe that Jesus died for your sins and believe he rose again as a sign that you are now righteous before God. (2 Cor 5:21)

This is what it means to believe on Jesus' name?

Yes, that is the salvation part of the gospel of grace the ascended Christ revealed to Paul directly (Galatians 1:11-12).

But during the 4 Gospels, Jesus have not died yet. So the Jews had to instead believe in Jesus as the Son of God and their promised Messiah (John 20:31), and be baptized, to be saved.
 
I've heard certain people (especially those who attend the church of Christ/Campbellism) misinterpret Romans 10:9-10 in such a way that means we can believe unto righteousness today, but are still lost until we confess Christ, which may be next week and then we are finally saved next week, but that is not what Paul is talking about here. Also, someone who is moot (unable to speak) would remain lost according to that erroneous interpretation of Romans 10:9,10 for failing to "verbally confess with their mouth."

Confessing with our mouth that Jesus is Lord and believing in our heart that God raised Him from the dead are not two separate steps to salvation but are chronologically together. Romans 10:8 - But what does it say? "THE WORD IS NEAR YOU, in your mouth and in your heart" (TOGETHER) that is, the word of faith which we are preaching, (notice the reverse order from verse 9-10) - that if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; 10 for with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Confess/believe; believe/confess.

1 Corinthians 12:3 - Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed, and no one can say that Jesus is Lord except BY the Holy Spirit. There is divine influence or direct operation of the Holy Spirit in the heart of a person when confessing Jesus as Lord. This confession is not just a simple acknowledgment that Jesus is the Lord (even the demons believe that), but is a deep personal conviction that Jesus is that person's Lord and Savior.

So simply believing in our head (and not in our heart) that God raised Him from the dead does not result in righteousness and simply giving "lip service" to the words "Jesus is Lord" not by the Holy Spirit is not unto salvation.
 
Jesus is God. So how can he not be Lord/God? But only the saved know this to be true.

“Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.” 1 Corinthians 12:3 (KJV 1900)

To me it is the case of confessing Jesus IS LORD.. Jesus was raised by God.. Jesus and God are One so Jesus is LORD / God

In the Same Holy Bible Jesus said the following..

(John 2:18-22) "¶ Then answered the Jews and said unto him, What sign shewest thou unto us, seeing that thou doest these things? {19} Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up. {20} Then said the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear it up in three days? {21} But he spake of the temple of his body. {22} When therefore he was risen from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this unto them; and they believed the scripture, and the word which Jesus had said."

Jesus claimed that if they destroyed the Temple of His Body that "I will raise it up" So Jesus raised himself from the dead.. And in the scripture you quoted in Romans 10,9 it clearly states if you """believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved """ So if one believes that the Holy Bible is indeed true and both these verses are truth then there is only one conclusion one can come to and that is..

1 Timothy 3: KJV
16 "And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory."

Jesus is LORD..

13 When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?”
14 So they said, “Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”
15 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”
16 Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
17 Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. 18 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. 19 And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth [h]will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”
20 Then He commanded His disciples that they should tell no one that He was Jesus the Christ.

- Contained in this passage is the answer to your question.
-On this Rock: The knowledge that Jesus is THE CHRIST (the Messiah), He will build His church.

That was how Jews were saved before the cross. Its not applicable now for anyone.

Just to be clear, when I was asking if it's a profession of faith you say outloud I might have meant saying "Jesus is Lord" outloud, or something like that.
 
Yeah have a look at the whole of the chapter around the verse.

Then you get the context and find the real meaning.

Romans 10 is a good chapter for supporting receiving Jesus as your Saviour.

He doesn't become Lord .. top priority in your life straight away..

You receive Christ by confessing and believing in Jesus.. that He died, was crucified and rose again as Romans 10 has it.

Once you've received Him.. He then leads you to devote every area of your life to Him, but not every area of your life is suddenly given over to Him at salvation.

It takes time to grow in maturity
