Since you are looking for shadow...
1Pe 3:20-21 KJV 20 Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water. 21 The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:
Not looking for shadows but are looking to the unseen fulfilment. Like with baptism used in a parable called a figure of the unseen Work of the Holy Spirit. We walk by faith the eternal not seen not after what the eyes see the temporal .

2 Corinthians 4:18 While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal

No shadows.

Jesus said..EXCEPT a man is Born of WATER and spirit...he cannot enter the kingdom of God...
Is it Born of spirit ONLY?
What to you is born of water?
what does it mean quickening by the holy spirit
Jesus answered this question

for God so loved the would he gave his only begotten son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish, but has everlasting life,

the person who believes passed from death to life. And this life he called everlasting or eternal.

notice, Jesus did not say believes and be baptized, because water does not mean baptism.

As i said...physical birth makes no sense...
Except a man (already born...a man...not fetus) be born of water and spirit cannot enter the kingdom of God...
Even nocodemus was puzzled...
How can a man be born again when he is old (not talkong of physical birth)

Peter stated a fact

baptism is A like figure of the waters of the flood, who saved 8 even though it was god means of destroying the earth

he also, stated a fact, it does NOT remove filth of the flesh (sin) but is the answer of a good consciousness.

god commands it, do it, it will not save you, but it will do something for you.

So what it means being born of water?
I think everyone has given you the most popular answer, physical birth

the other is called the word of God or the spirit that keeps giving called the rivers of living water springing up to eternal life (new birth) (John 4)

paul says in eph 4 that He might [a]sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word,. (New birth) jesus said in John 6 the spirit gives life, the words he speaks are spirit and they are life (new birth)

anymof these are more likely than water baptism, especially since Jesus did not mention it when he told nicodemus how to be born again. that just as the serpent was raised.the people were dead, they were bitten by the snakes. What made them alive again? Looking up to the serpent, Ie faith, Jesus said he too will be raised up, that whoever what? Has faith in him

no water baptism

as was said, being born of the spirit explains being born again.
jesus is contasting two births, flesh and spirit.

You don’t. God will if they are not born again

spiritual death is simply a term which denotes we are spiritually separated, or dead to God

when God told adam not to eat of the true, he said if you do, in that moment you will die

he did, Adam and Eve were the only two flesh humans (with the exception of Christ on the cross) to suffer spiritual death while spiritually alive.

the rest of us were born physically alive but spiritually dead through adam.

we must be born again.

Ephesians 2:1
And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins,

here is the born again process in action, how are we made alive who were dead?

paul on to explaim

But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5 even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), 6 and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast.

it’s by grace through faith (washing of water by the word, the same words Jesus said were spirit and life) the Grace which makes us who were dead alive in christ

not by works, which anyone should boast

water baptism is a work my friend, it is doing a physical act, and if you are doing it to be saved, you are doing it to earn your right to be made alive,

The question now, is what is BORN of WATER to you?
You mean baptized of water?

To me it is a symbol we die with Christ, like Paul say

Galatians 2:20 King James Version (KJV)
20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

Dipped in water does not save you, dipped in Christ is.

I have a friend, he like gambling and free sex, he was being a sprinkle baptized. Her mom sad and talk to some people, how to make him stop gambling?

Some body told her if he willing to do diving baptism. He will repent and become good boy.

Her mom ask him to go to a diving baptism but he wasn't change.

It's only a symbol, water not save you. It is a symbol of die with Christ, now Christ in you than you save
