Why did God create us?

God bless little children and their honesty. My four daughter asked me before bed “Why did God create us?” The only reply I could give that would make sense in her little mind was “Because God is love and wanted to express that by creation.”
I must admit I never really ponder that question before. Why did God create us? I guess my answer though simplistic is the real reason.

I'm also particularly fond of the answer that is found in Q & A #1 of the Westminster Shorter Catechism, which says,

Q. What is the chief end of man?​
​
A. Man’s chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy Him for ever. ​

All of us will, in one way or another, glorify God, but only believers and the holy angels will get to enjoy Him forever.

The first word in the Bible is: "Beginning". The first letter in the Bible is the letter b. This symbolically represents a tent. God breathed the breath of life upon Adam and Eve because He wanted to become a part of His Creation. We are told: "In the Beginning God Created Heaven and Earth". The key word here is AND. This can divide or this can unite. We are told to pray: "Thy Kingdom Come, Thy Will be Done on Earth as it is in Heaven". So we see that Jesus was given as a grain offering so that Heaven and Earth could become as one and so we could be united with God.

In Genesis 1:26 we read: "Let US make Man in Our Image". US represents Father, Son and Holy Spirit. All three do a work in our life. I was seeking God, God lead me to Jesus, Jesus lead me to the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit lead me back to Jesus and Jesus lead me back to the Father. I would not know Jesus other then what I learn from the Holy Spirit, our Comforter, Guide and Teacher. He teaches us about Jesus and Jesus teaches us about the Father.

So God Created us because through us He wanted to become a part of His Creation. Of course quantum physics can be a part of this discussion but little kids are not going to understand any of that. I think the entire universe was created as an object lesson for us to learn from.

I have always wondered this. Even despite love why create a being where 90% probably rejects you, kills your messengers, kills your Son in the flesh, is foolish in comparison, weak and brittle in comparison, and curse His name throughout the centuries. Why not create slaves or robots?

The only answer we have is that despite all that, the love of God saw it justified to allow free will. The only way for true love to exist. I suppose God looked to the ends of time and saw it was worth it, we was worth it, you was worth it. Sounds familiar to a poem I wrote called I was worth it.

It’s really not that big of a question and surely not that grand of an answer. In Genesis it plainly tells us. We were created to be stewards over Creation. Basically we were created to be employees. Our natural response to His glory is to give praise, but not our purpose. He didn’t need cheerleaders, he needed some hands to till the soil. Read Genesis 2. Is God good and loving? Absolutely, but He didn’t design man because He had nothing to love. A boss doesn’t hire employees just to show how good of a boss he can be. The Earth is one big biosphere. Everything has purpose and helps balance the ecosystem. God’s a designer, an artist. Just like he engineered man, with a brain and hypothalamus to maintain homeostasis (balance) in our bodies, he created animals to balance vegetation and other animals. Humans were intended to be the “hypothalamus” of Earth, orchestrating the living creatures like the hormones in the endocrine system. We had dominion until we were fired.

Here's the reason God created according to Paul.

“And God gave me the work of telling all people about the plan for his secret, which has been hidden in him since the beginning of time. He is the One who created everything. His purpose was that through the church all the rulers and powers in the heavenly world will now know God’s wisdom, which has so many forms. This agrees with the plan God had since the beginning of time, which he accomplished through Christ Jesus our Lord.” Ephesians 3:9–11 (EXPNT)

We talk about free will but the Bible talks about choice. We can choose life or death, blessing or curse, sickness or health, poverty or prosperity. We have many different choices we make in life. We can choose to love God, we can choose to love our self. I have some stray cats here that I feed and observe. I am not so sure that they have any sort of free will. They can be very dedicated and very loving. For example if they are sick or dying and you nurse them back to health they seem to be devoted to you for the rest of their life. Even if you are mean to them, they are still devoted to you.

You do if you want to keep them. You almost have to serve them more then they serve you. People always want to know what is in it for them. Look at Amazon, they give them free dental, optical, medical, tuition reimbursement AND $15 an hour. If you want to keep people working for you then you have to treat them good and pretty much give them what they want in the way of compensation.

You missed the point. Someone doesn’t hire an employee JUST to show how good of a boss he can be. He has a job for them to do. Then there is a give and take relationship.

You’re right about people making this too hard. We were created to serve God and He provided. Then, that didn’t work so man was left to his own devices. Then that really didn’t work. After the flood, there was a new labour agreement. The Israelites screwed that up so He made a new offer. This offer was for all residents of Earth. Accept Christ Son of Jehovah as Lord and you will rule with Him and share in His inheritance at the Resurrection, in the new Earth. This is the legal adoption, final offer, basically shares in the company. It’s always been a labour dispute.

If it were just about labor, why not just create more angels and avoid all the messy stuff of choice and consequences? Oh, wait! He did do that the first time but a third of them rebelled. Now, on to something different. 5thumbsup.gif

Humans imprinted with a soul are set apart from animals. As to why we are judged. Free will or choice is the same to me. Animals have free will within their limited brains and within the directions of instincts. Once the instincts are satisfied and survival is met then you are left with the limited brain activity. Where they choose to lay down, play, run, etc.

I had a litter of kittens that turned my back yard into a three ring circus. I tried to figure out how to record movies but we never did get any good video. I wish I had, I could have made thousands of dollars on youtube if I could have recorded all of their activity.

The debatable part is how one defines ”good works.”

We each have a job to do.The degree that we rely on Him for the guidance and strength to accomplish those works, results in rewards or loss thereof.

It has been at least 30 years since I worked for anyone. I have mostly been self employed or run my own business. I was talking about the people I hire to work for me. I have had some amazing people work for me over the years. Loving, caring, giving, hard working people. Communication is always an issue. It is easy to make mistakes and people are not always forgiving. People can be easily offended and walk off of the job without notice if they feel you do not treat them right. I told one girl that her parents must of spoiled her growing up doing things for her that she should have been doing for herself. That was the last I ever saw of her. She never showed up after that. Even though everything was going fairly well up to that point.
