here is the logical fallacy- " we are saved by belief only, but if we are not doing enough good works, we could lose our salvation"

a huge contradiction that you just refuse to see...
No, that's not the argument, lol.

I hope you don't think I believe that one can earn their salvation from God by doing good works.
Just because one does not subscribe to osas doctrine doesn't mean they must believe salvation is an earned reward for good works.

Yes, He keeps that one saved always.....as long as that person keeps trusting in Christ who sits in heavenly places on his behalf.
That's why we are exhorted to keep believing and not drift or fall away into unbelief.
When God saves people, he gives his Spirit to be in them. He places them in the body of Christ. Christ dwells in them, they in Christ and Christ in God and God in Christ. To be in Christ Jesus is the most secure place you can be.

While I do subscribe to OSAS, I much more prefer the term Eternal Security. Eternal sercurity is more encouraging in it's wording for me.

I love sharing the REAL Gospel; the one that teaches God’s grace in Jesus Christ is sufficient.

Strange though how we as believers add on modifiers as the word itself is not sufficient.

Always saved
Eternal
security

When did the words saved and eternal not become clear, Saved is Saved and Eternal is Eternal

Saved a completed action

Eternal outside of time, no end.

The NOSAS camp are disingenuous with their words.:(

Hello @Lightskin :),

I am familiar with hearing the phrase Once Saved Always Saved from a church I went to before. In one particular church( it could have been the same one, but I don't know for sure) I often heard the question raised , " if you died tonight are you sure you would go to heaven?"

When I read the phrase Once Saved Always Saved, the way I interpret is if someone is saved, that one is always saved. But if someone doesn't know what it means to be saved, then it ought to be explained. It may be a good conversation starter into explaining the gospel to bring up OSAS and ask if one knows what it means to be saved.

I like the phrase eternal sercurity. The word eternal being lasting forever and security a rather comforting word and something I often sought after. Security has for me the sense of comfort, peace, rest. I can rest in Him and am secure in Jesus. Pictures I get with security is that of being held, embraced, of a Shepherd holding a lamb close to his heart( see Isaiah 40:11).

I have written this very thing many times in this forum.
The point of difference is I say you have to continue to believe to remain in that eternally secure place.
Depending on which osas you look at it teaches that you either do not have to continue to believe to remain secure, or because you believe, you will always believe and will, therefore, always be secure in Christ.

While I do subscribe to OSAS, I much more prefer the term Eternal Security. Eternal sercurity is more encouraging in it's wording for me.
Everyone who believes possesses the salvation that is eternally secure.
(Unlike the 'salvation' one received under the old covenant which was a temporary salvation.)

Salvation in Christ is eternally secure because of the effective ministry of Christ, not because you can't lose it while in this life.
People have misunderstood eternal life to mean you can't lose it.
That won't be true until you leave this life.
In the meantime, you are subject to the temptation to stop believing in the perfect and forever ministry of Christ and as a result losing the life that is eternal and never ends.

See what I'm saying?
Salvation itself is what is eternal, not your possession of it.
I mean in this life. After you die that is when you can not forfeit the gift of eternal life by going back to unbelief.

I think I get where you are coming from...

I thought of saving faith reading through this. I think sometimes when someone reads the term saving faith they may feel like they have to have some kind of grandeur faith to be saved. It is not so. The important thing is to have faith in Jesus.

Yep.
This promise is for everyone who believes in God.
Not for those who never believed, or who have stopped believing and returned to their old lives in unbelief.

Amen! It's about the object of our faith/the right kind of faith that trusts in Jesus Christ as the ALL-sufficient means of our salvation. :)

When people started leaving out the condition to continue to believe in order to have the salvation that is eternal.
see, here is the logical fallacy- you say this, which is correct, then you go on to say that good works are necessary to maintain salvation by belief.

+ not of ourselves, a gift of God.

if I have to DO something ( other than believe), then is no longer a gift.

Why, why do you feel the need to push this .. it is NOT Truth
Wow .. this post is absolutely infuriating to me.

Spiritual salvation has always been secure
God does not unadopt... no where is that present in scripture

Blessed is the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms in Christ. 4 For he chose us in Christ before the foundation of the world that we may be holy and unblemished in his sight in love. 5 He did this by predestining us to adoption as his sons through Jesus Christ, according to the pleasure of his will— 6 to the praise of the glory of his grace that he has freely bestowed on us in his dearly loved Son.
Ephesians 1:3-6

Wrong again

  • His Gift: John 6:37 — “All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and whoever comes to Me I will never cast out.’’ (Also see John 10:29; 17:6,11,12,20)
  • His Bride: 2 Corinthians 11:2 — “For I feel a divine jealousy for you, since I betrothed you to one husband, to present you as a pure virgin to Christ.” (Also see Ephesians 5:25-32; Revelation 19:7; John 3:29.)
  • His Inheritance: Ephesians 1:18 — “... that you may know what is the hope to which He has called you, what are the riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints.”
  • His Possession: Ephesians 1:14 — “... who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of His glory.”

Amen! I recently watched a church service online from Abundant Life Church in a sermon entitled: "Weapons of our Warfare: Stand With the Breastplate of Righteousness" in which Pastor Phil Hopper thoroughly discusses this. I have some family and friends who attend that church.

You can watch the entire sermon here which actually begins 30 minutes and 20 seconds into the video. :)

I completely agree with your sentiments. My posts were not argumentative in any way but rather supportive of your position. Your faith is intoxicating. Keep sharing the Gospel as you do; you bring hope to many people.

Some people will use the term "saving faith" meaning the faith that brings conversion.

So I think this is a valid term since we place our faith in many things/people, but the faith that saves is the one that is placed in Christ Jesus for salvation.

And that salvation is the gift of eternal life.
