In music, you are always counting the beats. A measure normally has two, three, four, or six beats.

The most common time signature is 4/4. 4 beats to a measure, and the quarter note gets the beat. Meaning that there are 4 quarter notes per measure.

6/8 is common. (Six beats. Strong accent on first beat and lesser accent on fourth.)
2/2 is common. (Two beats. One and two and one and two. Strong accent on one and lesser accent on two.)
3/4 is common. (Three beats. Accent on the first beat of every measure.)

Piano lessons are a good way to learn to read music, which is helpful if you want to pursue some other kind of music, such as singing.

Well, we'll have to put a tap dance act together and go there. Does anyone know how to tap dance?
