Because it was the Old Covenant the Lord was referring to when He said "It is Finished".

Which was signified by the "end" of His Suffering.

Hebrews 9:15-17
15 And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.
16 For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator.
17 For a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator liveth.

Did Jesus fulfill the law in our place. Or are we still under law?

We were not talking about that but why Jesus said the words, "it is finished" when his suffering was complete.

The old covenant was not yet over. It was the beginning of it being over but it was over when Jerusalem fell in 70 AD when the temple was destroyed along with the whole of the Jewish system of worship. The old was over then and will never return.

Again, I am pretty sure Jesus was speaking of his own suffering which was very intense. I do not think he was thinking theology.

It was over when the Lord said it was over.

Just because some people still tried coming to God in the old way doesn't mean they were successful.

The suffering and death of Christ is the BASIS of my Joy, because it is the BASIS of my salvation.

I amnot sure why this is so hard for you to understand

You are wrong and ironically, I am the only who is thinking of his suffering being eternally grateful. But I do not blame you. The whole of the culture is so narcisstic that it is also in the church. Almost (if not) every thought is on us and what Jesus did for us, how God loves us....etc. No one is taught to think about someone besides themselves for a moment.

And I am doing just that and more than for a moment and it is so foreign that it cannot be imagined that I think of my benefit at all because I am thinking of Him.

You shall love the lord your God with all your heart and soul and mind and strength. It does not say you shall love your salvation with all your heart and soul and mind and strength.

I have moved beyond knowing salvation into knowing Him and do not think of my salvation hardly at all, frankly speaking. I focus on HIm and what He wants of me. I have moved beyond the elementary things of salvation into loving God with all my being which includes understanding what His love cost Him, not merely what I received. If you do not believe, which might very well be the case, you can ask me questions.

Brothers and Sisters,

It would be good if we thought about Jesus and not what we get out of him. I know it is hard because all the "worship" songs for the most part talk about what we get out of him. The sermons are what we get out of him or how He exists (is there) to comfort us and meet our needs. I cannot express how freeing it is not to be focused on what you get out of your relationship with God and moving into what pleasure He derives from our lives and the choices we make that bring His Kingdom into the world around us. Next time you take communion, which might be a while considering everything, focus on Jesus himself, not what he did for YOU.

Does it really do harm to consider that when Jesus said, "it is finished," he was not thinking of us but glad the horribly unspeakable suffering was done? If we really loved him, shouldn't we be glad with him to know his suffer was over? Isn't that more in line with loving Him?

I disagreed with the fact you claimed you are the only one thinking of what Christ endured on the cross.
