I agree he wasn't claiming to sit in the Chair of Peter. But he was claiming to have the authority to appoint a Bishop over Corinth.
 Claiming to sit in the chair of Peter...

I now appoint a bishop over you in the same way that the Lord has appointed Pope Peter the First over you...

How in the wide world of sports do you interpret the scriptures this way? Did the popes tell you this is how you have to interpret it?

And you don't find this the least bit comical? You're not purposely trying to make me laugh?

You see then why Christ set up a hierarchy.

What I believe was always believed. What you believe was not. What was true then is true now. Popes don't invent new doctrines but guard the Deposit of Faith.
And you don't find this the least bit comical? r
No. But I'm not confused about the reason you do.

Mmmmm, I don't think so. I think what you believe is a manipulation of scripture that the first Popes made the mistake of using to take advantage of the gullibility of people who don't know scripture.

Matthew 23:8-12
8 But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren.
9 And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.
10 Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, even Christ.
11 But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant.
12 And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.

Popes ABSOLUTELY DO invent new doctrines. Look at the 95 theses that Luther wrote. These were corrections of WRONG doctrines that Popes invented.

Now that's funny Grandpa. Do you really believe Jesus was teaching about ecclesial titles?

The Faith in Christ was lost until Luthers protest. Mmmm
Now that doesn't fit the image of the Church described in Scriptures.
What is the biggest obstacle that antichrist faces in the world?
Hint: it's built on rock set high up on a hill.

Yes. The Lord absolutely was teaching about titles. He said Don't Do it. Do you think its ok to do what Christ Himself said not to do??

Its ok because the first Popes and all the popes after said it was ok??

The biggest obstacle that antichrist faces in the world is Christians who know the Truth of Scripture.

The Truth of Scripture should never be a problem or a threat to the One True Church.

I guess Paul didn't get the memo.
Paul is calling himself their father.

1 Cor.4
though ye have ten thousand instructers in Christ, yet have ye not many fathers: for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel.

Oh wait. he did get the memo

1 Cor. 8:6
But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all thing

Maybe you will note that Paul didn't tell anyone to call him father. Or Pope.

He was using an analogy.

No and nothing Christian about it!

Other than a false claim......any religion that teaches the following = NOT CHRISTIAN

Pope = God or VICAR of God
Mary can intercede
Pray to Mary or worship Mary
Worship images, bome fragments, teeth n hair
Sprinkling is baptism
Sprinkling infants
Church Salvation
Sacramental Salvation
Transubstantiation of bread/juice/wine
Purgatory
Losable salvation

Etc.....All false teachings

Even if a Pope says all those things are ok?

What if someone who is infallible, a pope, tells all the people that they can pay a certain amount and that will forgive certain sins?

Seems legit...:ROFL::ROFL:

He was stating his position of authority. Whether or not a title has developed or attached to it doesn't change that. Paul defines it to be the authority of a father. Papa.

Then there have been no Christian nations? What historians call Christian Europe isn't and never was Christian?

The Apostles failed Jesus's command to convert the nation's?

Who said anything about so called Christian nations....there has never been one Christian nation on the planet.....GENTILE world powers and nations, the JEWISH nation....and SOME Christians in those nations.....and your statement has NOTHING to do with the erroneous belief that Catholicism is even close to being Christian!!!

Do you know that in the past a monarch wasn't considered legitimate unless crowned by the Pope?

So what and could care less.....Satan told Jesus...All these kingdoms are MINE and I give them to whom I will......so, it makes sense that a POPE, in his mind, would think he has that power!

That was before Jesus conquered him on the cross. Furthermore the blood of the martyrs were for naught and powerless to witness to and convert the Roman state or any other to Christ?
Lots of selfless missionaries did nothing. What about St. Patrick? He really didn't convert the pagans of Ireland?

Ummmm, you have a lot of baggage to lose and a bunch to learn...

In the N.T., AFTER JESUS ascended, PAUL under inspiration and having been taught by direct revelation from JESUS called Satan the KOSMOKRATOR <--World ruler.

SATAN is still the god of this age/world and he is most assuredly still very much in control of the Gentile world powers on this PLANET!

No. Paul is not stating a position of authority. The Lord Jesus says NOT to do that.

Matthew 23:9 And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.

There is only One who has the Authority of a Father.

What Paul is saying is that he is DIRECTLY responsible for these people being Christians. In Christ Jesus he has BEGOTTEN them through the gospel.

What he is not saying is that he is their new pope.
