Hello,
I have recently become more and more interested in learning about God. However I was not brought up with any Christianity and all my friends and peers are atheist or as ignorant as I am about religion. I am wondering if anyone could give me advice on how to learn.
Thank you

Hi.
I'm glad you are here, but to truly learn of God you must study his word and pray. He will enlighten your eye to what He speaks and plant that revelation deep in your heart.
Here you will find multiple opinions and interpretations of which most have been taught by man.
Sincerity before God will not go unanswered.
That sweet voice that speaks peace to your spirit helps to know the paths He is directing you upon.
You are a babe so be patient and drink the milk of the word so not to choke on the meat, the deep things of God.
May He lead you as a gentle shepherd leads his flock, and may you follow as you grow stronger.
Grace and peace upon you!

Thank you for the advice. Sorry if this question is stupid, where shall I start? Genesis? Or can you reccomend any chapters for someone blind to religion and who, in all honesty lives in what I believe you would call sin, like myself.
Thanks again

Start with the Gospel of John. This will be the most common answer you will receive on where to start reading in the bible.

After John, go ahead and read from the beginning, but you might want to continue to read from both Old Testament and New Testament each day.

Most people have that natural desire to read from the beginning so I say go ahead and feed the need.

I think you will find it very useful to read the bible in Chronological order also. In order to do that you can find a Chronological Reading guide online and follow that reading plan. The books of the bible are not collected in chronological order. Using the chronological reading plan helps one to understand what some of the prophets were dealing with as it related to the current political conditions when they wrote.
A Harmony of the Gospels reading guide (also easy to find online) is also helpful when reading Matthew, Mark Luke and John. Harmony of the Gospel will reveal how things happened in order and sheds light on understanding.

These Chronological Reading Guides just list which books and chapters to read in order of how they played out historically. They are not commentaries.

The gospels of Matthew,Mark,Luke and John are the most excellent places to learn of Jesus,God's Son and the plan of salvation for our lives.
Psalms express a right relationship to God,and teaches us how to respond to the Lords Spirit.
I pray you receive all He has for you and I'm so proud you are searching Him out.
I will be remembering you in prayer,my dear.

Yeah, Psalms is a good daily thing you can do when you don't feel like doing much else.

My mother told me to read a psalm and proverb a day...I did. They are deeply sown into my mind...to the point where when I pray some heavier things I know he's heard the depths before and I'm not uncomfortable about it.

Psalms are great for seeing the depths of the human experience...the spectrum if you will.

If it gets too heavy or seems too "remote" for where you are, that's when I used to jump to the gospels.

I also agree with what others have posted as a good starting place. I'm not sure where I started but I also grew up in church...I do distinctly recall a time when I was 14 making it through each of the four gospels...it opened up a lot and was an excellent refresher.

I've read different books in different seasons...so I can't tell you what specifically to read, other than the New Testament is a bit more plain on certain things. In some sections of the Old Testament, it is almost as if you are expected to understand.

What's cool is that more than a few portions of the New Testament repeat the Old testament (like an overview) for context.

Everyone is different though. Lots of people on this forum are open to helping if you get stuck :)

Appreciate your honesty. Welcome to the club, I live in sin too (were all sinners. Or some were, saved by grace). You came to the right place😁The Gospel of John, or maybe Mark is a fairly easy read to begin with.
