This is part of a process to change a culture .. It's a big reason the ''deep state swamp'' opened our borders to illegals and shipped our manufacturing overseas .. Mills were shut down that generations grew up around and had memories of the communities and mills, schools ,everything .. Now it's gone and the new generations have nothing ..

For once we can agree on something.
Erasing history and culture is not necessarily a good idea. It is a problem, though, that right wing extremists have taken possession of the Southern culture and the Confederate flag. It is as bad as when the rainbow was taken in possession by the LGBTQ-movement.
Removing monuments doesn't erase history.
same reason Germany doesn't have any statues of Hitler and no one has forgotten the Holocaust
Maybe we should erect a statue to every historical event that has ever happened.

Confederate monuments have always stood for white supremacy
Many of them were put up during the Jim Crow era as a giant middle finger to the civil Rights movement
Removing statues that have been up does not erase history, but it is often a reminder something is being forgotten or worse- deleted.
America would be a better place if there were more monuments and museums. Even to the things that are not necessarily laudible but still important such as the Stalin bust in Bedford, VA.

I heard that the house where Hitler grew up has been turned into a Police Station to stop it being a shrine for Neo Nazis. I dont know why it wasnt pulled down instead. Perhaps it wasnt a practical option.

I have to clarify I'm not a Communist or admirer of the Soviet Union. Quite the opposite.
The old Red monuments and busts which stand today are, in my mind, worth retaining precisely because they remind us of history's ugliest atrocities and the men behind them.

Some will be happy and believe they have overcome
Some will be sad and believe that their History is being removed
Most will hear/read about it and ....... meh ........ they will go on with their day to day lives not understanding that there are serious discussion that should take place before such a thing happens.....
I understand how a Statue of a Confederate General/President can upset the Black community........after all, every time I see Farrakhan or Jessie Jackson, or Al Sharpton........ I get really, really sick to my stomach and am very angry that such people are allowed to speak/appear in public.........
I will happily see the R.E. Lee statue go away IF THEY WILL!

well removing idols happened all the time in the Bible...the israelites still wanted to worship the golden calf though....and years later the catholics really didnt like anyone touching their saints statues.
I am more sad when people cut down trees. Goodbye One Tree Hill...although it was just one tree up there, while there are many further down the summit, that obelisk is still there. Originally it was a kind of grim reminder of the europeans actually wanting to rid the land of maori. strangely maori hacked the tree in protest since they couldnt topple the obeliesk and statue. The europeans hoped they would die out, but nope they are still here and now new native trees are growing up there.
Imagine if another people put up a gravestone for your family members who hadnt even died yet. Yea makes no sense but then a lot of what people do is illogical. The chainsaw that was used to cut down the tree up there is now prserved in a museum, along ewith other stuff plundered from the maori people. Shrunken heads etc. Stuff stolen from Asia, egyptian mummies. Bowls and plates.
I also remember a maori activist smashing the americas cup. but it got repaired. Its a rather ugly giant trophy, but when nz won it, it was like they the entire country had won lotto or something. we had ticker tape parades just for a cup.

This is ironic. You were the one harping on Kaylagirl for a false equivalency, yet you draw a parallel line between Hitler and Robert E. Lee in one thread and in another you submit a hypothetical where a doctor is committing malpractice the same way a police officer would.

They are going to remove all public display of white supremacy in America.
The marines are talking down all confederate flags, and all display of white supremacy, and things associated with it.
And eventually all public displays of prejudice whatever it is will not be tolerated.
The religions are probably next to be put on an equal level especially Christianity, and Islam, for they believe they are exclusive, and no more public display of them putting themselves as the only way to have spirituality.
