So many times we and our single friends/family members will say, "I really, really like this person...BUT..." And the biggest "BUT" we hear from most of them is that they are not christians. Or sometimes they THINK they are christians, but they are trying to get to God without accountability..trying to get around Jesus on their own somehow. Or they are in rebellion - they know the scriptures and the truth, but have hardened their hearts and set their minds not to do things God's way. That's dangerous territory.

I heard this stuff from yet another person today...a family member. Seems like for us singles this is satan's favorite ploy to tempt us/distract us/draw us away from our relationship with Christ, doesn't it? And far too often, it works, doesn't it?

Judges 16

1Then went Samson to Gaza, and saw there an harlot, and went in unto her.
2And it was told the Gazites, saying, Samson is come hither. And they compassed him in, and laid wait for him all night in the gate of the city, and were quiet all the night, saying, In the morning, when it is day, we shall kill him.
3And Samson lay till midnight, and arose at midnight, and took the doors of the gate of the city, and the two posts, and went away with them, bar and all, and put them upon his shoulders, and carried them up to the top of an hill that is before Hebron.
4And it came to pass afterward, that he loved a woman in the valley of Sorek, whose name was Delilah.
5And the lords of the Philistines came up unto her, and said unto her, Entice him, and see wherein his great strength lieth, and by what means we may prevail against him, that we may bind him to afflict him; and we will give thee every one of us eleven hundred pieces of silver.
6And Delilah said to Samson, Tell me, I pray thee, wherein thy great strength lieth, and wherewith thou mightest be bound to afflict thee.
7And Samson said unto her, If they bind me with seven green withs that were never dried, then shall I be weak, and be as another man.
8Then the lords of the Philistines brought up to her seven green withs which had not been dried, and she bound him with them.
9Now there were men lying in wait, abiding with her in the chamber. And she said unto him, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he brake the withs, as a thread of tow is broken when it toucheth the fire. So his strength was not known.
10And Delilah said unto Samson, Behold, thou hast mocked me, and told me lies: now tell me, I pray thee, wherewith thou mightest be bound.
11And he said unto her, If they bind me fast with new ropes that never were occupied, then shall I be weak, and be as another man.
12Delilah therefore took new ropes, and bound him therewith, and said unto him, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And there were liers in wait abiding in the chamber. And he brake them from off his arms like a thread.
13And Delilah said unto Samson, Hitherto thou hast mocked me, and told me lies: tell me wherewith thou mightest be bound. And he said unto her, If thou weavest the seven locks of my head with the web.
14And she fastened it with the pin, and said unto him, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he awaked out of his sleep, and went away with the pin of the beam, and with the web.
15And she said unto him, How canst thou say, I love thee, when thine heart is not with me? thou hast mocked me these three times, and hast not told me wherein thy great strength lieth.
16And it came to pass, when she pressed him daily with her words, and urged him, so that his soul was vexed unto death;
17That he told her all his heart, and said unto her, There hath not come a razor upon mine head; for I have been a Nazarite unto God from my mother's womb: if I be shaven, then my strength will go from me, and I shall become weak, and be like any other man.
18And when Delilah saw that he had told her all his heart, she sent and called for the lords of the Philistines, saying, Come up this once, for he hath shewed me all his heart. Then the lords of the Philistines came up unto her, and brought money in their hand.
19And she made him sleep upon her knees; and she called for a man, and she caused him to shave off the seven locks of his head; and she began to afflict him, and his strength went from him.
20And she said, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he awoke out of his sleep, and said, I will go out as at other times before, and shake myself. And he wist not that the LORD was departed from him. 21But the Philistines took him, and put out his eyes, and brought him down to Gaza, and bound him with fetters of brass; and he did grind in the prison house.

We have to be very careful about who's holding the scissors in our lives, don't we? We can't allow anything or ANYONE to come between us and God.

In John 21:15, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?”

When we feel drawn to someone and there's a strong, clear "BUT" ...we need to trust that. There's more than one way for our hearts and lives to be broken and some are far more costly than others.

i agree with that julianna a friend of mines been broken up by that very same thing cos she wasnt wise to the buts and the warning signals which i noticed cos ive been through something similar, god used me to show her but it was too late to stop her heart been broken..

How about those that loved the ones with the buts unconditionally and helped bring them closer to the lord...........Joyce Meyer and her husband come to mind.........ole Dave stuck it out cause he loved her and just kept praying..............maybe we use the scissors as an excuse because we ourselves are too weak or two nimble to help....I have know idea where I am going with this..................if you love somebody unconditionally everything will work out..............sometimes our worst enemy as singles is WE WONT STOP OVER ANALYZING THINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

you do have a point there homer but david meyer was amazingly strong in his faith , even he nearly gave up and said to joyce later if you hadnt changed id have got to the point where id have said if you dont im gonna have to leave, joyce freely admited that..and david had already prayed for someone who he could help

but i think here were talking about relationships what the enemy deliberatly uses to weaken our faiths, relationships what are emotionlly destructive , where theres lots of lies and deceptionwhat might cause us to fall into sin and cause us to fall away from god or dilute or faith but we stick with them even when their not right and dont listen to the warning signals ... i really get what juliannas saying..

Having grown up in a situtation where one parent was a christian and one wasn't, I suppose I had too many years watching it not to analyze it. As awesome, loving, kind, gentle, fun and brave as my stepdad was, I can't tell you how many times I saw my mom's heart broken because there were so many things he didn't understand and she couldn't share with him. And, from time to time, she would wander away from the Lord to do things she knew she shouldn't because they were things that he wanted to do, and times she was prevented from doing certain things she knew she SHOULD be doing.

Shortly before he died, he did come to Christ and it was a beautiful thing to witness. But I can't help wondering how much better/richer their marriage/lives together would have been if they had been one in their faith from the beginning, you know?

God warns us about marrying unbelievers and the heartache/risk it poses for us time and time again in the scriptures, so it must be pretty important to Him, you know?

in the begining was the word, and the word was with GOD himself,In Him was life, and that life was the light of men, but darkness could not understand darkness.a born again cannot afford to be in love with an unbeliver, cause first of all.there will be lack of understanding.darkness doesnt understand light.the foundation had to be firm, and that is thru understanding each other, not tolerating each other.JOHn continues on to say, you young man have overcome the world, because the word of GOD is in you.if you yoke with unbelivers again, the world has overcome you.so let us be overcomes friends...

How right you are Julianna! Having been there myself I believed that, through me, my partner would come to Christ. Problem here though, is that it is not my our might, but Christ. How much I have wanted to be like the Myers! I am still in the process of letting go of the emotional bondage of what has become now broken relationship. So often, with all our good intentions and prayers instead of helping my partner draw closer to God, I instead put my partner on a pedestal in place of God. So I am on my own, and taking each day as it comes. One thing I have learned is to guard my heart."If one hand causes you to sin, cut it off" same applies for loved ones. For what God wants is for us to draw closer to him. As for my (ex) partner. I will leave that one to God - how arrogant of me to think it would be I that changed his heart instead of God! And as for me - God knows my heart, and my desires (which is to be part of a family) and I trust God with my heart. It has taken a long time to get to that that place though...

Such pain in your words... God is close to the brokenhearted. Hugs and prayers to you, Katy.
