Hi Lafftur,

You did not mention Daniel to prompt a response from dc, I did. Nothing you said even suggested that in your question about Daniel.
That is right the Bible doesn't tell us where daniel was when the Hebrews were addressed. Where the Bible is silent we are to be also.
But to support my Biblical opinion I addressed the reason why from The book of Daniel chapter 2:46-48.

Nothing I said was incorrect. Yet this person had already made it known he was in disagreement because I had said it. That is fine :).

But the Historical Narrative and chronological order of kings in Israel and Judah from 1kings through 2kings and on is very clear.

Jeroboam's sin God was greatly angered with and the "Sin of Jeroboam" was continued generation after generation as I listed in post # 51.

"it was Jeroboam Solomon did not make golden calves set up priests. And it was God who said repeatedly Those who followed the sin of Jeroboam. In first Kings in chapter 11:14, Solomon sought to kill Jeroboam but he died before he could. God said in first kings 15:30

  • Because of the sins of Jeroboam which he sinned, and which he made Israel sin, by his provocation wherewith he provoked the LORD God of Israel to anger.
  • verse 34: And he did evil in the sight of the LORD and walked in the way of Jeroboam, and in his sin wherewith he made Israel to sin.
  • chapter 16:2 Forasmuch as I exalted thee out of the dust and made thee prince over my people Israel; and thou hast walked in the way of Jeroboam, and hast made my people Israel to sin, to provoke me to anger with their sins;"
  • 1kings 16:19
  • 1king 16:26, 31, chapter 21:22, 52,
  • 2kings 3:3, 10:29, 13:2, 6, 11, 14:24,
  • over a 100 times the sins of Jeroboam are mentioned.

It was not you sister, it is dc who has the issue. from the very first response, he had an agenda, I did not know Biblical history, it was "skewed". This is normal. :) has an issue, a personal issue :).
Well, dc is very rough around the edges at times but, he is correct about the what he is saying regarding the history of Israel.

It is true that Jeroboam did promote false worship and set up altars because he was afraid Israel would travel to Jerusalem for yearly sacrifice and he would lose control over the people of Israel.

1 Kings 12:25-33 King James Version (KJV)
25 Then Jeroboam built Shechem in mount Ephraim, and dwelt therein; and went out from thence, and built Penuel.

26 And Jeroboam said in his heart, Now shall the kingdom return to the house of David:

27 If this people go up to do sacrifice in the house of the Lord at Jerusalem, then shall the heart of this people turn again unto their lord, even unto Rehoboam king of Judah, and they shall kill me, and go again to Rehoboam king of Judah.

28 Whereupon the king took counsel, and made two calves of gold, and said unto them, It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem: behold thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.

29 And he set the one in Bethel, and the other put he in Dan.

30 And this thing became a sin: for the people went to worship before the one, even unto Dan.

31 And he made an house of high places, and made priests of the lowest of the people, which were not of the sons of Levi.

32 And Jeroboam ordained a feast in the eighth month, on the fifteenth day of the month, like unto the feast that is in Judah, and he offered upon the altar. So did he in Bethel, sacrificing unto the calves that he had made: and he placed in Bethel the priests of the high places which he had made.

33 So he offered upon the altar which he had made in Bethel the fifteenth day of the eighth month, even in the month which he had devised of his own heart; and ordained a feast unto the children of Israel: and he offered upon the altar, and burnt incense.

Also, Solomon had built temples and altars to false gods because of all the wives he had - they turned his heart away from the True God of Israel.

1 Kings 11:4-13 King James Version (KJV)
4 For it came to pass, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned away his heart after other gods: and his heart was not perfect with the Lord his God, as was the heart of David his father.

5 For Solomon went after Ashtoreth the goddess of the Zidonians, and after Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites.

6 And Solomon did evil in the sight of the Lord, and went not fully after the Lord, as did David his father.

7 Then did Solomon build an high place for Chemosh, the abomination of Moab, in the hill that is before Jerusalem, and for Molech, the abomination of the children of Ammon.

8 And likewise did he for all his strange wives, which burnt incense and sacrificed unto their gods.

9 And the Lord was angry with Solomon, because his heart was turned from the Lord God of Israel, which had appeared unto him twice,

10 And had commanded him concerning this thing, that he should not go after other gods: but he kept not that which the Lord commanded.

11 Wherefore the Lord said unto Solomon, Forasmuch as this is done of thee, and thou hast not kept my covenant and my statutes, which I have commanded thee, I will surely rend the kingdom from thee, and will give it to thy servant.

12 Notwithstanding in thy days I will not do it for David thy father's sake: but I will rend it out of the hand of thy son.

13 Howbeit I will not rend away all the kingdom; but will give one tribe to thy son for David my servant's sake, and for Jerusalem's sake which I have chosen.

This is why God allowed the kingdom of Israel to be divided into the North and the South yet, only after Solomon died - it would happen during his son, Rehoboam's reign.

There's no reason for you and dc to argue.(y)

yes I agree and you are right but please remember The evil done by Jeroboam was one that God, not me, The Lord God said was a sin like no other OR has ever been done since. This was why Samaria was hated by the north. And Jesus addressed this with the women at the well who told Jesus about where are the true worshipers And Jesus corrected her John 4:20-22.
Idol worship if we want to really address it did not start from Solomon. It was practice from "Abram", which his father was believed to be making idols of the god "Ur" the moon god.
Idol worship was a long-standing sin of the called out people of God. IT was the reason why they were taken into captivity. Both Israel and Judah did great sin idol worship and perversion. The History of Idol worship & perversion is long documented, here are some. Aaron, the judges, Eli sons, Samuels sons, Solomon, Jeroboam, and on and on. The point is not historical although that is important, the application was why were not more standing against this decree of the king? The authorial intent of how do I apply this today is the application. Did Dc provide anything to suggest the application was wrong? No. But he did reveal the underline motive of why he responded to my thread. That is why I said you can doubt all you want that is fine :)

In my time of prayer and speaking to the Lord, I was led to Daniel chapter three :
Most of us know the story of the Music will play and you are to worship the image of King Nebuchadnezzar. lets look at verses 3-7

3. So the satraps, the administrators, the governors, the counselors, the treasurers, the judges, the magistrates, and all the officials of the provinces gathered together for the dedication of the image that King Nebuchadnezzar had set up; and they stood before the image that Nebuchadnezzar had set up. 4 Then a herald cried aloud: “To you it is commanded, O peoples, nations, and languages, 5 that at the time you hear the sound of the horn, flute, harp, lyre, and psaltery, in symphony with all kinds of music, you shall fall down and worship the gold image that King Nebuchadnezzar has set up; 6 and whoever does not fall down and worship shall be cast immediately into the midst of a burning fiery furnace.”
7 So at that time, when all the people heard the sound of the horn, flute, harp, and lyre, in symphony with all kinds of music, all the people, nations, and languages fell down and worshiped the gold image which King Nebuchadnezzar had set up.

Now as we read on later in the chapter at verse 12- 14 we see some jews who will not bow.

12 There are certain Jews whom you have set over the affairs of the province of Babylon: Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego; these men, O king, have not paid due regard to you. They do not serve your gods or worship the gold image which you have set up.”
13 Then Nebuchadnezzar, in rage and fury, gave the command to bring Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego. So they brought these men before the king. 14 Nebuchadnezzar spoke, saying to them, “Is it true, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, that you do not serve my gods or worship the gold image which I have set up?

These three would not bow. As we read on, the king ask them to do so they refused and said to the King in verse 16-18:

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego answered and said to the king, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter. 17 If that is the case, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us from your hand, O king. 18 But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we do not serve your gods, nor will we worship the gold image which you have set up.”

I saw something here the Holy Spirit showed me and i asked the following questions:

  • how many jews were in Jerusalem during the Nebuchadnezzar captivity ?
  • why did the King only throw three people in the fiery furnace?
Well it is clear, they were the only ones who would not bow. Remember this verse

"all the people, nations, and languages fell down and worshiped the gold image which King Nebuchadnezzar had set up."

it is believed 20,000 jews were sieged at Jerusalem and only three would not bow? The King did not even have to build more furnaces when we see all the People bowing and nations, and those of other languages.

How sad is the likeness of today :

Many christians today are bowing to the music or dancing to it I should say. I wonder if God is looking for 20,000 to say NO I Will NOT BOW! But God settled for three. Those three were more than enough that HE even joined them in the fiery furnace . 20, 000 who were taught in the ways of the Lord did not go to the fiery furnace that day. The Lord only knows if they did after that. BUT God did go in with three young boys and they came not. the 20,000 who did bow as many are doing today will not come out of the fiery furnace the Lord places them in. Better to stand with God and be a few than to be many and not stand with God and be many who will get burnt. those in leadership have conspired against the Lord and HIS Holy Sayings this was well planned out persecution. To force those who will not worship the false image made by mans hands. the sad thing is only 3 out of 20,000 believing Jews did not bow. Remember that the next time your church they shut down the place you chose to worship or have not given permission to open yet.

Chose ye this day whom you shall serve.

Heb 13:5
"I will never leave you nor forsake you."
I see where you are going with this but knowing how you love sound biblical interpretation as much as I do I would take a closer look at the details here for biblical accuracy.

1) Not all the Jews who were captive in Babylon were compelled to come to this event. It was specifically held for:
...the satraps, the administrators, the governors, the counselors, the treasurers, the judges, the magistrates, and all the officials of the provinces
Therefore it was a gathering of politicians for the most part.

2) How many Jews were among them? Probably not many. It is possible that these were the ONLY Jews among them. We read the story of how they were elevated to their positions because they were found to have a more excellent spirit and it is possible that among those Jewish youths of the captivity picked out for this training these were the ones that had passed the tests and had been elevated to these positions.

Whether it was only these three (Daniel is not here, probably occupied with the Kings business somewhere else and not compelled to come), or even if there were a few other Jewish captives who had been elevated like these three, and they might have bowed, we do not know, nevertheless I would think that the number of Jewish politicians among them were but few.

Now the application, and I think we can all agree is that of bowing down to an idol and giving obedience in the place of God.
It is not accurate application to suggest that if one takes precautions not to spread a contagious virus that they are bowing down to an idol. We need to have more grace and patience with those who have different opinions than us on how to assemble without spreading the contagion. Let each be convinced in his own mind. We all have to answer to God for the truth we believe God is telling us in our own hearts. I personally would not be afraid of opening the church but I would make everyone sign a hold harmless waiver before they come in so they cant sue the church if we end up with a super spreader event. It has already happened so we know it is a risk.

The application of the image and the pressure to bow down in Daniel 3 can be understood as pressure for the nation of Israel as whole to compromise and adopt the wickedness and idolatry of Babylon during their 70 captivity and many of them did.
So when it came time for them to come out of Babylon at the decree of the Persian king Cyrus only about 40,000 wanted to go. The rest had grown comfortable with their lives in Bablyon having assimulated into the culture. Daniel 3 might have only involved the three Jews mentioned but I think the message was that theirs is the kind of faith that all the Israelites would need to survive the captivity and maintain their faith and religion. When the time finally came for them to come out of Babylon God had to AWAKEN them and prepare them to have a desire and faith to face the challenge of RISING up and leaving their comfortable lives in Babylon for their God called destiny to restore the temple and rebuild Jerusalem. Isaiah 51-52 is that call to AWAKE.

Scribe I did not say all jews were.

Why is it some interject a false narrative?

I asked :

Scribe please tell me or show me where I said all Jews? In Jerusalem Not in Judah not in other regions The very context of this chapter was where?

Dan 1:1
In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah came Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon unto Jerusalem, and besieged it.

Dan 1:6

Now among these were of the children of Judah, Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah:

Dan 9:7

O Lord, righteousness belongeth unto thee, but unto us confusion of faces, as at this day; to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and unto all Israel, that are near, and that are far off, through all the countries whither thou hast driven them, because of their trespass that they have trespassed against thee.

The three were placed by daniel most likely to be an interpreter of the language there is seen in chapter 1:4

young men in whom there was no blemish, but good-looking, gifted in all wisdom, possessing knowledge and quick to understand, who had ability to serve in the king’s palace, and whom they might teach the language and literature of the Chaldeans.

I understand, thanks for sharing with all of us! Your post encouraged us to be prepared to STAND and to not be surprised if there's only a few that stand with you for Christ.(y)

It must have been absolutely amazing in the fiery furnace with the Lord. I've experienced God's fire in a vision before...it can act like water and wind, it doesn't consume you, it's so warm and cozy.....like you're wrapped in an electric blanket all snuggled in - so comforting and peaceful.(y)

Have a blessed day, CS1! Thank you for volunteering and helping CC!(y)

You stated:

"all the people, nations, and languages fell down and worshiped the gold image which King Nebuchadnezzar had set up."

it is believed 20,000 jews were sieged at Jerusalem and only three would not bow? The King did not even have to build more furnaces when we see all the People bowing and nations, and those of other languages.

I read this as your understanding being that 20,000 people had been taken captive from Jerusalem carried to Babylon and were at this event when commanded to bow down.

My response was that none of them were at the event unless they were one of the politicians mentioned. I do not see it as open to the general public either Babylonian or captive foreigner. It was specifically held for these people ...
Nebuchadnezzar the king sent to gather together the princes, the governors, and the captains, the judges, the treasurers, the counsellers, the sheriffs, and all the rulers of the provinces, to come to the dedication of the image which Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up.

Your comments (I pasted) suggest that you imagine them at the event and bowing. Am I wrong? How did you want your comments I pasted interpreted? I am not trying to find fault. I just don't see that all the Israels taken captive from Jerusalem bowed to the image and that seems to be what you are suggesting.
I did not state that dan chapter three did context all the people besieged at the location the decree was given :).

Let me get this right you read "all the people" to be only those of:
princes, the governors, and the captains, the judges, the treasurers, the counselors, the sheriffs, and all the rulers of the provinces, to come to the dedication of the image which Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up.
representing those of different languages, and nations that were there listed?

This 60 cubits = 90 feet tall and 9 feet wide was erected for only these few leaders?
and Nebuchadnezzar decree was only to them?

You, O king, have made a decree that everyone who hears the sound of the horn, flute, harp, lyre, and psaltery, in symphony with all kinds of music, shall fall down and worship the gold image;

Everyone here are only those listed?

Sorry I misunderstood your post. Now I have a question. I was thinking that only the politicians were there. The verse you posted...
all the people, the nations, and the languages, fell down and worshipped the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up.
Should we interpret this as the politicians that represented these people, nations and languages?
It seems that this was an event for only the particular office holders representing the people from the following....

2Then Nebuchadnezzar the king sent to gather together the princes, the governors, and the captains, the judges, the treasurers, the counsellers, the sheriffs, and all the rulers of the provinces, to come to the dedication of the image which Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up. 3Then the princes, the governors, and captains, the judges, the treasurers, the counsellers, the sheriffs, and all the rulers of the provinces, were gathered together unto the dedication of the image that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up; and they stood before the image that Nebuchadnezzar had set up. 4Then an herald cried aloud, To you it is commanded, O people, nations, and languages, 5That at what time ye hear ....

Were the three Hebrews the only Hebrews at this event?

now we're cooking and thank you. Yes, I see your point and I think it is very possible, however, reading the king of king he was I have to ask would he only be happy with those leaders, rules, etc.. bowing? after making a 90-foot image and a rock concert.

LOL you are untruthful,

I said, "it is believed 20,000 jews ".

You say it is more like 50, 000?

According to the Jewish Enclyopedia.....

Now, if the figures as given in Jeremiah for the years 597, 586, and 582 be accepted as correct, the total number of exiles, taking into consideration II Kings xxiv. 16, will be 12,000 men, or in all 36,000 to 48,000 souls.

But in Biblical times, as to-day in Oriental countries, only the men were counted.

Scribe I did not say all jews were.

Why is it some interject a false narrative?

I asked :

"I saw something here the Holy Spirit showed me and I asked the following questions:"

  • how many Jews were in Jerusalem during the Nebuchadnezzar captivity?
  • why did the King only throw three people in the fiery furnace?
Well, it is clear, they were the only ones who would not bow. Remember this verse

This is why I find it difficult to enage you and why you seem dishonest....note your defence above and how you left off the following statement which leads one to the conclusion that you indeed did mean ALL JEWS in the Babylonian Empire....and my history was correct...there were 20,000 MEN not counting WOMEN and children....

Note what you said in the OP WHICH you left off in the above response to Scribe.

Well it is clear, they were the only ones who would not bow. Remember this verse

"all the people, nations, and languages fell down and worshiped the gold image which King Nebuchadnezzar had set up."

it is believed 20,000 jews were sieged at Jerusalem and only three would not bow?

that a good calculation but we can't say it is absolute. 20 k 30 k other say 40 and 50k. I don't know. Sometimes I think we strain a gnat but swallow a camel :)

Go back a read the first thread, I will post what I said and you can continue your misrepresenting of me.

"I saw something here the Holy Spirit showed me and I asked the following questions:

Again you have shown your hidden agenda.

it believed 20,000 jews were sieged, I am sorry I did not provide a reference page for you as where I have received that number. But it is really not about 20,000 30 or 50k is it? The issue is not the issue? You are just critical because your feelings were hurt. You pulled something from the past that really bothered you, and you were not mature enough to address it then. You looked to the thread to discredit and that ok. I am very much use to this kind of action from those like yourself :). Enjoy :)

Really you could have just stated, "Yes including woman and children the number would have been higher"

A. Samson prayed to God to get his strenght back <-factual truth

To get vengance on the Philistines and Kill himself in the process <--factual truth

Knowing the holiness of God would he answer a prayer that leads to sin <-factual truth

Samson makes the 11th chapter of Hebrews, the chapter of faith <- factual truth

The Jews were carried away into captivity. They were not in Jerusalem. These events took place in Babylon. The Jews carried away were the one described in 1:4. The youth unblemished and well favored. Skillful in all wisdom and gifted in knowledge. These were in the Kings palace.

They were in fact noble in their efforts to remain faithful to Jehovah God. So the application to take a stand for Christ is valid. Daniel and the other three were already proved in their faith in Jehovah so it was a real problem for the other captains, princes and governors in the palace for them to be noticed by the King.

It was at this time quite common for the Chaldeans to burn people in furnaces. They were well known to offer children to their god Baal by throwing them into the furnaces as an act of devotion.

Daniel 1: 1

In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came to Jerusalem and besieged it.

: 2 And the Lord gave Jehoiakim king of Judah into his hand, with some of the articles of the house of God, which he carried into the land of Shinar to the house of his god; and he brought the articles into the treasure house of his god.

:3 Then the king instructed Ashpenaz, the master of his eunuchs, to bring some of the children of Israel and some of the king’s descendants and some of the nobles,
