discerning 'false prophets and such' is such a 'key' in the growth and under-standing of God's elect -
discerning of the 'real and the false', in order to grow and become a real member of Yeshua's community...
otherwise, there is no hope for those who just 'follow every wind of satan's doctrines'...

Matthew 7:15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.
18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.
Soul Weaver this is another part of Calvinism... once again they misinterpret and misapply.
You will notice that often people who adhere to that dogma are very good at pointing out other people's lack of fruit using this passage.

But the Bible says inspect the doctrine...... because they will look like sheep.

They do wonderful works in the Lord’s name (Matt 7:15-22), but INWARDLY they are ravening works.
So don’t judge based on appearances (external works), judge with a righteous judgment (John 7:24).

We also have many examples of carnal believers envying, striving, having divisions (1 Cor 3), behaving worse than a heathen (1 Cor 5:1),

"Not necessarily:"

Luk 6:43 “For no good tree bears bad fruit, nor again does a bad tree bear good fruit,
Luk 6:44 for each tree is known by its own fruit. For figs are not gathered from thornbushes, nor are grapes picked from a bramble bush.
Luk 6:45 The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil, for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks. :)

"for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks."
You don't agree that this is about discerning whether teaching/prophecy is true or false?
It looks to me that, even if only three verses are taken, that this is what Jesus speaks about.

I am a disciple of Jesus....a disciple of Jesus bears fruit.
With all due respect....I don't care what you are or who you are....the context of the verse you keep referencing is FALSE TEACHERS and the FRUIT they shall be known by....and as long as you keep denying this to make it say something it is NOT SAYING you will be in error!

He is stroking the ego of his newest convert to his "ism"

Spoken by the Messiah, the Son of the living God, Jesus of Nazareth (Matthew 16:16), the prophet like Moses (Acts 3:22; 7:37) whom the living God promised to raise up from among the Israelites (Deuteronomy 18:15, 18).

As both Moses (Deuteronomy 18:15) and the living God said (Deuteronomy 18:18-19; Luke 9:35) we must listen to him.

I corrected my OP..to the fruit of the Spirit.

The fruit of the Spirit is not false doctrine.....a true follower of Christ should and does bear fruit...if I don’t see that in a true follower of Christ....after many yrs of walking with God....then I ask the question, why no fruit.....hmmmm.

I have corrected my post or did you miss it?

Fruit of the Spirit...a true follower of Christ should bear fruit...their character and behaviour should change....after many yrs of walking with the Lord...no change of behaviour no fruit....hmmm..that would worry me...we are to grow in the Lord and be more like Jesus...

There are many nice people sitting in pews every week, and some of those nice people are very gentle, kind and giving and some are do so by the flesh and have not been born again.

I am talking about the fruit of the Spirit.....fruit that is produced by God in a believer....instead of being a headstrong person( not you) submit to the Lord and bear his wonderful fruit.

Without a doubt, but neither you or I are the inspector of fruit....Jesus is.....and an apple tree is an apple tree from the micro second it sprouts, it takes years of growth and maturity to bear even 1 piece of fruit and can have both good and bad fruit hanging from it's limbs....and IS STILL AN APPLE TREE!

I believe dcon was referring to differing degrees of spiritual maturity. A babe in Christ is still - in Christ.
As fruit matures and gets nourished it becomes sweeter and proper.
Thorns are thorns though never maturing to blessed fruit.

The point is a "good tree" can bear no fruit for a long time... that is a fact.

Disagree..a true follower of Christ will bear fruit straight after salvation...which grows and grows...there character changes because the Lord resides in their heart.

Yep, first goes milk of the Word (teachings) then meat (works).
It's why we must spend a lot of time in the Word to speed the process up.

Hebrews 5:13 For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe.
1 Peter 2:2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:
