I see on the news that many public school will not have in school instruction this fall.
All instruction will be on the internet.
What are the thousands of students without internet to do?
There are many families in my area that can not afford internet.
I have to pay $90 a month and that is the lowest price available in my area.

Will we pay these teachers that do not teach?
Will we have a reduction in school taxes?

Did you try government or school websites? Or calling them to get the answers?

I live in a small town. 150k , They have managed to provide L pads for all the students
in my school. I have my own, Obviously . I have the option of attending school, 2 days on and 2 day's on line. Or get our studies on line. Our start date is August 31st. I can't wait!

You miss the point.
Many do not have access to internet. To expensive for some and just not available with out a satellite system for many that cost way to much.
How can you call 150k a small town? There is only one city in my state that has over 150k.
We only have 16k in the whole county.

My dad and I just moved from a city with a population over 1 million. The reason I mentioned this is because in the town where we live. Most people live in poverty.
Sad really.

The tablets that our county (population 45K) provides our students has a wireless restricted internet activities connection installed.

Will not work is there is no internet service in the home.tt
What many take as normal (internet or wifi service) many simply do not have access to for a variety of reasons.

I did not have internet until 3 years ago when the local phone agreed to lay an underground cable to my house. A distance of about one mile. But then only after I put up a $2500 deposit they refunded after 30 months.
All the satellite services said I had too many trees that I refused to cut down and their service was well over $100 a month plus installation fees.

I know some can nor believe it , but not everyone has internet service.

Sounds like you live in a very secluded area. How is your town dealing with the corona
virus. the smaller towns in our state are virtually virus free.Those schools will be the first
to open.

Zero cases during this whole time.
While our local school may open, many in the country will not and that may cause a problem with those kids without internet service.

How does that work?
Do the kids have to have a cellphone account.
Not really knowledgeable in this stuff.

My point is the schools already know these issues and will, no doubt, have an option prepared. Just like they did months ago when schools all over the world were shut down but classes still continued online.

I did 70% of my classes on the computer before this happened...

And months ago when schools shut down MANY kids were left out because they had internet access.
It was true in my area. Hopefully that has been addressed, but maybe not.

The schools systems have been VERY quiet about what parents who cannot afford to quit their jobs, abused children or generally children who live in unhappy homes, should do. A lot of children depend on school for free breakfast and lunch. Now the added cost of internet.

What is the norm for many is just not true for all and many can not see or understand that fact.
Just because your kids continued their school work at home on the internet does not mean that all have that choice.
Many do not have internet. Some do not have electricity. Some do not have parents that can or even care to help them learn. School is or was their life and now that is gone.

Some say they will meet 2 or 3 days a week. If 2 or 3 why not 4 or 5? Some schools went to 4 day weeks with longer days in recent years, why not continue?

My concern is for those kids, and many in my area, that have been left out and will continue to be if schools do not open.

The school, YES, but many students do not have internet at home. Their families cannot afford $90 a month or sometimes even more.
It not about me. There was no internet when I went to school during the 50's.
It is about many kids from poor families that were left out when the schools closed and will be again if they do not open.
There are thousands of kids that are not as fortunate as those of you who have internet, cellphones, and such.

Oh, I was referring to doing 70% of that work in school. You said that the schools are opening where you live. The only problem with our schools is we don't have air conditioning and it is very hot 5 months of the year. Makes it incredibly hard to concentrate...
