Learning new vocabulary words can be entertaining.
It might also help you in Scrabble someday, who knows?? ( (whispering)...or maybe even in real life )
Post the definition to the word in the previous post, and then post a new word you are pretty sure the next person may have to look up.

The first word is:
inveterate

Love this! Actually, I was considering a vocabulary quiz game now and then in lieu of bible quizzes in the chat, but it's been a while since we did any bible quiz even so, I wasn't sure how it'd go over with the crowd....
It'd be more fun, tho, if a rule restricting word searches were in place. At least before an initial attempt to define the word intuitively :p
for example:

inveterate; to induct into the military?

I agree nerds ftw! Hmm lets maybe it means to imply a reverse role?

I wonder if anyone can guess what this word means though, although a certain kind of people will I want to see if they do lets just say it basically defines my life.
Aviary any ideas?

I looked up 'inveterate,' confirming that, yes! I am a inveterate nerd!

joyN8cher had to have known that, if I were indeed truly nerdy, I could not have helped myself!

inveterate; persisting in an ingrained habit

Aviary sounds too much like aviation it must have something to do with flying, its a scrunch of the words 'aviation' and 'sanctuary' so then, its a bird sanctuary :D

Nomophobia

I like the idea of guessing! What a great idea. I imagine someone will put us out of our misery once in a while by looking up the actual definition after a few failed attempts, lols. Either way is fun.

My guess for Nomophobia is the fear of not knowing the definition of a word! Baaaahaa!

Well you did a good job using intellect to figure the word out you were close.
It is a bird in a giant cage like sanctuary but more like a prison it is used less as a home and more of a way to keep them from flying, I was tempted to look the word up but I wanted to see if my nerdyness could figure it out based on the word and how it might be used but I suppose I got it wrong

I think you may have gotten it, I am still trying to decide what it could be, I am trying to decifer it with what is nomo like what kind or word is nomo used with.
The word anomaly comes to mind which is basically a word that derives from what is normal expected or standard so I wonder if it either a fear of being normal or following the croud of what is expected or perhaps the other way around the fear of not fitting in what is normal and being a sheep to the crowd just to fit in?

Good tries but, wrong, wrong, wrong! :giggle:

Here is a hint; parents may use this to ground their children saying, "No mo' facetime for you" or a teacher might say, "No mo' of that! hand it over, and you can have it back when class is over."

hmmm Maybe it is like a withdraw symptom? Like anxiety of just wanting it back or something?

Is google permitted or forbidden in this game?

Everybody answered all the words so far, so can I extemporaneously provide the next one?

Yes @Lynx.. if anyone wants to Google the definition, that's cool, guessing is also fun. I would love to have another word if you've got one!

Lols, ok. Yes google is truly cheating, but necessary sometimes.
Extemporaneously is a word we use in pharmacy. If we have to 'extemp' a medication it means that we have to take what was available in a larger bottle and package it into a smaller size. So extemporaneously would be an adverb? describing an action that was 'done' in an extemporaneous fashion... Maybe I am breaking it down too much.
Another meaning that comes to mind is probably not the right one, but it reminds me of improvising... expounding on something.

I just shot at that word with a machine gun. Maybe something stuck.

extemporaneously: done without special advanced preparation; impromptu

I don't care what anyone says, Google is my friend and has achieved verb status. It came in handy when my professor applied the word 'astute' to a discussion entry I submitted.

sagacious!

Sagacious would be one who is sage like.. ummm so to have the wisdom of a sage.... I think it has to be seasoned with sage.. like a turkey.
😄 or someone who is like an old soul or just plain old.

*Lynx nods with profound sagacity.

I'm a nerd, so I have recognized all these words. I don't recommend being a nerd... it makes people look at you funny when you use a word you think explains exactly what you mean, but they have no idea what you said.
