Therefore, brothers, strive to make your calling and election sure. For if you practice these things you will never stumble, and you will receive a lavish reception into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. - 2 Peter 1:10-11

In your heart are you sure, do you want to be.
Peter tells us how we can be.

You have addressed an important scripture. The verse does not address "salvation", and the verse indicates that works ("strive") are needed to make your calling and election sure. The verse also implies that the reader has not yet entered the "eternal kingdom" though he/she has be called already. And it also implies that though one is called, the outcome is not "sure". So, the verse ...
  • does not address salvation
  • addresses "works"
  • says that nothing is "sure"
  • says that one could "stumble"
  • says that one has to "practice" things - that is, make a life's habit
  • indicates, by the tense, that the Kingdom mentioned is future
Could it be that entering the Kingdom of Christ is by WORKS, not FAITH? What then is the difference between "salvation", which we know is by FAITH, and entering the Kingdom, which is obviously by WORKS?

I think it's so important to seek our calling and service ( election ) Salvation cannot be lost ,but we can miss out on our calling.

I know not everyone can accept what it does say because of preexisting personal interpretations, Paul addresses these who embrace and teach lawlessness and their false doctrines in the next few chapters saying they themselves are without the experience of God, unlike himself and unlike us who know Him.

In fact:
This was written to believers about how to be sure.
Who?
Paul teaching believers in Jesus.
What?
How to be sure in your calling and election in Christ Jesus.
How?
Through knowing God.
Why?
Because the knowledge of God will multiply grace and peace to you.
Grace and peace for what purpose?
"Walking in the way" - the way that Paul outlines in the previous verse.
What is the result of walking in such things?
A life in Christ Jesus where you do not stumble.
It that life what Paul is saying, makes your calling and election sure?
Yes, the assurance of our faith in the experienced, actual, realized salvation of our souls.
Does holiness righteousness and spotlessness have anything to do with your salvation and our lavish welcome into heaven?
Read 1 & 2 Peter and pray to see past your personal interpretations, your personal understanding and see.
When Peter says never stumble does he actually mean never?
No he was liar, OF COURSE HE MEANT IT!

... holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord: - Heb 12:14

Their is a false Gospel being preached across the world where those who are laid hold of by Christ Jesus and His work of the cross are taught to not lay of the very purpose of the Gospel.
Peter also explains what the very purpose of the Gospel is.

You are saved (Completed work of Christ Jesus)
You are being saved (Enabled work of the true believer, empowered by the Holy Spirit, preparing you as a holy, spotless and blameless bride for Jesus. see the 10 virgins parable)
You will be saved. (The salvation work of the Father in our glorification and presentation as a bride to Christ)

Which do you have past tense?
Which are you supposed to be receiving present tense?
Which are you setting all your hope on future tense?

The question at hand is do you even have salvation?
Will you or will you not be counted among those who say Lord Lord and hears depart from me I never knew you, you who practice lawlessness.

As another brother puts it.
Everyone who has there hope in Him, (that being Jesus and the cross and the resurrection) purifies himself just as He is pure.

Or perhaps this one
Test yourself to be sure you are in the faith.

Peter is making clear exactly how you can be sure and ensure you will not hear "I never knew you depart from me you who practice lawlessness (which is sin)

Yes in the beginning we are like babies whose dirty diapers need to be changed regularly, but when we begin to enter maturity as all Children do it becomes obvious who children we actually are.
You may think you are one and find out you are the other, but best to find out this side of death.

Why am I sensing you are sneaking in 'works salvation ' ?
Anyways. We are saved , we are Justified ( rom 5:1 ) We are sanctified 1cor 1.2 and 1 cor 6:11 . And we are Predestined to future Glorification. Rom 8.23/ Eph 1.5
Ever believer who is saved ( from the penalty of sin ) ( rom 5'1 ) is Guranteed by the sealing of the Holy Spirit which is until the day of redemption . Our future Adoption ( Rom 8:23 ) as far as God is concerned is a done deal Rom 8 . 28_39 .

Yes! Election has to do with service not salvation.

Aaaahhh. I said it in my last sentence - by FAITH. But this verse does not address "receiving Jesus". Nor does it address the receiving of the Holy Spirit. It addresses the Kingdom of Christ. If you take the plain grammar, what conclusion do you come to? But let me give you a clue.

Prince Charles of Great Britain is BORN royal. He is, by BIRTH, HEIR to the throne of Great Britain. But does that mean that he will inherit it? No. Charles, from his very first day, must go through a rigorous schooling. Why? To make him and his character fit to rule Great Britain. What if he rebels and bunks school, beats up his tutors and murders somebody? Will he get the throne or will he get prison? And if Charles does all of that and goes to prison, will he be UNBORN to Elizabeth? Will he stop having royal blood in him? No. He is Charles, born of Elizabeth, heir to the throne, but who, because of bad character and crime, does not inherit.

So the Christian. He is BORN to God - King of kings (Jn.1:12-13). He is royalty (1st Pet.2:9). He is in line for a throne (Lk.19:17-19, Rev.20:4). This BIRTH and INHERITANCE is given to him for free. But what if his training fails and his character is one of a thug? Will he be co-king with Jesus when He returns? One is INTRINSIC status by BIRTH and is for free. The other - the kingdom - the throne - MUST BE EARNED!

So we are not sealed by the Holy Spirit immediately after we believe ?

So we are not sealed by the Holy Spirit immediately after we believe ?
Please forgive me. I could not understand your first question.

To your second question let us examine the three occasions where we received the Holy Spirit as a Seal. They are;

2nd Corinthians 1:22, "Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts."

Ephesians 1:13, "In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,"

Ephesians 4:30 , "And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption."

The Greek word for "Sealed" (sfragidzo) means a stamp or impression by a person in authority to testify of the veracity of a matter. As you can see, the Seal of the Holy Spirit is given immediately AFTER believing. In every case it is PAST TENSE. But the verse we discuss in this thread is "STRIVING to make your calling and election sure". Which of the three scriptures above addresses this matter? The answer is, NOT ONE.
  1. In 2nd Corinthians 1:22 the seal is to guarantee in our HEARTS of the Holy Spirit in our human spirits
  2. In Ephesians 1:13 the context is our inheritance "in the fullness of time" (verse 10). Our inheritance is the earth and we will gain it "in the fullness of time" (Rev.22:5). But our calling and election are for a period of TIME before this - the 1,000 years reign of Revelation Chapter 20. Are we given a guarantee FOR THIS? NO! Revelation 2:27 says it is ONLY for overcomers in the Church, and Revelation 20:4 says it must be earned even by martyrdom. The parables on the Kingdom like the Wedding Feast, the Talents, the Virgins and the Pounds show servants of the Lord LEFT OUT of the kingdom.
  3. In Ephesians 4:30 the seal of the Spirit is for our BODIES. It guarantees resurrection like Romans 8:23, "And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body."
If you are still not sure, then ask yourself, if the Seal of the Holy Spirit guarantees our calling and election, why then must we strive???

Faith is a work. They cannot be separated.

Faith the will. with power the work are the requirements for salvation . No faith or will /plan , no works. . the carrying out of the will.

Willfully let there be light . and it was good . let there be and nothing appears, dead works.

We either strive when Emanuel works in us with us making the load lighter or we murmur . Hebrew 6 informs us of the better things of salvation, He promises he will not forget the good works as a labor of love that we offer toward his name. No need to murmur.

Philipians 2: 13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure. Do all things without murmurings and disputings:

Hebrew 6: 9-10 But, beloved, we are persuaded better things of you, and things that accompany salvation, though we thus speak. For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.

1 Peter 1:1

Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the strangers scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,

Who are those that are scattered abroad?

Are you in a nation that God made a covenant with, that will qualify you as scattered?

Could it be that entering the Kingdom of Christ is by WORKS, not FAITH?
The Lord already refuted this false idea.

ONE CANNOT ENTER THE KINGDOM OF GOD WITHOUT THE NEW BIRTH
Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. (John 3:5)

ONE CANNOT SEE THE KINGDOM OF GOD WITHOUT THE NEW BIRTH
Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. (John 3:3)

REGENERATION IS BY FAITH IN THE LORD JESUS CHRIST
And only those who believe on the Lord Jesus Christ are born again:
But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. (John 1:12,13)

And Paul puts a final nail in the coffin of salvation by works of righteousness:
Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost (Titus 3:5)

So what is born of God is corruptible and goes to hell?
