It's not the same at all, plus it should be a choice regardless. I do agree with making it an option for those that are high risk and/or just uncomfortable with leaving home for sure, but as far as these governors stepping on our constitutional rights to overreach and take our God given freedoms saying "you can not hold church", NOPE.

Also those calling for some kind of legal mandate to force mask, I couldn't be more against that period. I mean I am strait up willing to fight for the sake of our freedoms on this matter. This said I'm not crazy with it, I actually believe these businesses and things like this do have the right to refuse service to people that don't have mask, just like I support a business that refuses to bake a certain cake. What I would fight to the bitter end is the government telling us that we "HAVE TO". NOPE.
I hate social media, but you will have many millennials that disagree with you :) for them it is the new normal.

I was actually referring to lockdown in South Africa. At one stage it was illegal for us to even leave our homes without a good excuse. It is better now but during lockdown it was illegal to attend church and we viewed it over the internet on social media.

I still believe there are more value in an intimate setting like a house church than in an over commercialized mega church setting.

Here is another very recent story along the same lines. I heard about it in passing and thought it relevant regardless of whether you agree with his mostly unrelated theological views.

https://www.christianpost.com/news/...e-in-church-because-our-lord-commands-it.html

Quite an interesting read. The city moved against them saturday night (before sunday service) to have the order removed that gave them until Sept 4th for a hearing.

It's a bit counter productive to have one court say you can do something and then to appeal that decision (what seems to be) the night before. Certainly he could still have complied and that probably would have looked better and he would have a much stronger case to my judgement but there ya go.

Whoops, sorry @Mii, I didn't notice that you'd already posted an article above about John MacArthur's church. At least they are two different articles.

It was on my mind to share, couldn't tell you why. I'll consider that confirmation that it should be shared :)

Obey those in authority, in Roman times that was the emperor....remind me of who is in charge in a democracy, I know it's not the emperor or king.

Defying the authorities is never right.
Until the authorities oppose God, Christ, Christianity, and Christians -- which they all are doing blatantly right now.

All the Liberals/Leftists/Socialists/Marxists were simply waiting for something like this Pandemic Hoax to clamp down on Christians and churches, while giving free rein to looters and anarchists. Indeed churches were TARGETED.

What should have been the universal Christian response? Ignore every effort to control Christian worship since everything about this pandemic is bogus. The virus is real but it is another form of flu, which could have been prevented from becoming serious by early HCQ treatments (which were banned deliberately to increase the deaths and the panic).

Imagine dying of Covid and then when you meet God he says "well duh, what part of social distancing did you not understand?"

Nah, if you can protest, you can attend church. If you can Wal-mart, you can go to church. I wanted to get some fall decor for my home last weekend. We got good news that my mother is cancer free! So we decided to go out and eat to celebrate and then go look for decor at the local Hobby Lobby. The four of us went in and didn't stay long. It looked like Christmas, more than I've ever seen at Christmas. It was packed. You couldn't move. Everyone was commenting on in. The smart thing to do would have been to open everything at once. Since they didn't people are packing in to the few places that are open. You can go to church, you can vote. People are out either way.

Well I can't purchase groceries and household items from church so that's kind of a false equivalency.also unless Walmart is just ridiculously packed most of the time you're never going to get within six feet of another person

Yeah I can't do that at the Liquor Barn, or the abortion clinic but they are considered essential. You can stay 6ft apart at church as much as Wal-mart. If you pass a person in Wal-mart you aren't 6ft apart. Nobody pays attention to the signs on the floor. So if you can go there you can go to church.

not sure why people are so against wearing masks its like people who get into cars and refuse to wear a seatbelt thats provided. I guess they wanna be free.
It's about the context and precedents that compliance is setting worldwide.
Had no problem with mask while it wasn't mandated. I thought I was doing a good thing. Now I do have an issue, seeing what's going on in the world.
I posted here about police and citizen violent beatings and murders of people who don't wear mask, also about dangers of CoviPass which will restrict travel and freedom in the future.
Totalitarianism that reared its head in every country needs to be opposed tooth and nail.
Australia threatens people who won't take the vaccine, that they won't be able to get pay, to travel.
Video proof in this post. This is recipe for chaos.
This is dangerous, it's fascist, and nothing to do with compassion or virus anymore.
Science does not check out about the effectiveness of masks, and scientists disagree a lot about this issue, but instead of a scientific discussion that we should have, any challenge is not allowed and a smear campaign is automatically ran.

Don't worry, software is already in development developed to track us all and make sure we all comply. And no, you still can't go to church.

There's no scientific proof the sickness is contagious, and if it is, certainly no proof that 6 feet is the magic number beyond which the (alleged) unalive, virus particles cannot jump. Just because you heard it from a talking head on TV don't make it science.

Wait! Did you forget God's grace?! After all, Jesus Christ brought God's grace with him and said he could heal people on the Sabbath if absolutely necessary just like when King David had to eat holy bread, which is equivalent to not going to Church today if absolutely necessary by a government mandate. Jesus Christ reminded everyone that the point of worship and obedience to God is to do good in this world, not to stifle people's lives. If anything, the authorities telling us not to go to Church for the time being is akin of God absolving us from Church for a while. I thank God for his grace. I don't fight it.

Also, is anything you're saying part of the gospel (good news) of Jesus Christ or is it all part of the hopelessness and scare tactics of Satan and his godless people? I always refuse all doom and gloom from Satan and his godless minions and only accept hopeful gospel from Jesus Christ and God.

Godspeed.
