I can not believe nobody has yet mentioned second Titus 1:7. When I read the thread title I was expecting that Bible verse to be in the second post. :sneaky:


As for horror movies, I never have been able to get into them because... well... xkcd said it better than I can, so I'll do what I always do and post an xkcd to say what I want to say.

I did enjoy the first few Jurassic parks but as someone with a degree in evolutionary ecology I found it very amusing on clear mistakes. Such as there was no t-Rex during the Jurassic period. Not from the tithonian to the hettangian. He did not show up until the Cretaceous period. Also the “velociraptor” was not really what is called that. Those were tiny animals. The ones called that in the film are based actually off of another animal from the the same period as T. rex. The Deinonychus. V. Raptors are from the velociraptor genus and was about the size of a turkey. The allosaurus though was similar to the T. rex and from the Jurassic period.

I do enjoy horror based on different periods of time, past and future, merging with our time.

the crucifixtion was pretty horrible.
Jesus had to flee from this psycho called King Herod when he was just a babe into egypt which was like out of the frypan, into the fire, since you know what they tried to do to the Hebrews.

and those pharisees were pyschos too.

Yeah, yeah, Second Timothy 1:7.

Sometimes shortened bible names are as mixed as state initials. Let's see, was MI Mississippi, or Missouri, or Minnesota, or Michigan, or...

But really, if nobody here has mentioned II Timothy 1:7 yet... y'all are slacking! You need to go back to BDF school. :p

Titus 1:7 For a bishop must be blameless... This is why you will not find many pastors who watch graphic murder or rape movies as most of the congregation would wonder about his commitment to holiness and purity of mind. The day I hear a pastor say "Did you catch the last Episode of Game of Thrones" is the day I know that there will be no word from the Lord coming from that pulpit.

This winking at sin and accepting such ungodliness is a sure sign of a backslidden heart. You can bet that alcohol abuse and other sins are sure to follow if not already going on.

You are seriously such a fool and jerk Scribe. You think horror equals being a drunk. Know what is more likely to equal sin than horror movies. A legalistic, ignorant mind with a hard heart. Perfect case example of a Pharisee.

I watched the first 4 seasons of GoT. I have yet to have alcohol.

I never got into horror movies. Suspense, yes! Silence of the Lambs.

GOT is fantastic. I’ve watched all of it but I definitely like the books more. I’m waiting for the next one in the Ice and Fire saga. The series is similar but definitely very different from the books. Missing entire characters and creatures. My favorite book by him those is Dying of the Light.

I started reading the first book some time ago, and I liked it a lot. But I have this bad habit of starting books and not finishing them til way later lol. By the time I come back to the book, I’ve forgotten too many details lol

I’m a big reader. I read about 45-60 minutes a day and probably twice that one the weekends. That’s not including my time spent studying which may be 2 hours a day. I read fiction and nonfiction. Usually something scientific or faith based on the nonfiction and then I read a little bit of anything for fiction but tend to lean into horror, science fiction, fantasy and dark satire. Anything with great character development and cool story lines.

I dont like horror, in general.
I used to host a book talk when my cohost would talk about horror and rave on about it but I wouldnt join her cos I dont get the fascination.

a lot of books in my neighbourhood book fridge have a plot like this :so and so found a body but nobody knows how it got there. Or one person goes missing. The killer is out there. There are so many books like this that its become a cliched trope.

some people say they like true crime cos they actually 'like the gore'. well I dont. There will be books about murders with photos of dead people shot with blood streaming out and Im like I dont wanna see that.

but then I think Jesus died on the cross bleeding to death and suffocating and everyone saw it happen and nobody did anything to stop it. But thing is He KNEW it would happen, and he knew who was trying to kill him. Cos people just succumb to evil, satan is evil.

I did begin working on it. The Bible study argument. I only got a few pages into the rough draft and my kitten would not stop wanting to snuggle so I caved lol. I’ll continue to work on it throughout the week. I typically get to a few pages long and then work on shortening it up a bit to present my argument and then add on a bit as counter arguments to expected and typical attacks to help show the actual context verses the imaginary context. I want to cover a wide range of horror themes from the Bible. I want to work on a much more detailed version but it will takes a long time and whenever that’s finished I’ll upload it too probably after going through BioLogos with it and seeing counter arguments by people playing the devil’s advocate and rework it to cover those in more detail. But that’s months and months down the road.

If I'm working on the computer overlong according to my kitten's calculation of time away from her, she jumps on the chair beside me, then onto the desk and walks across the keyboard.

If anyone watched Passion of the Christ they witnessed blood and gore like I've never seen displayed in a Jesus movie. :( Horrific and yet given the movie kept to the scriptures description of Jesus' trial and torture and ultimately his crucifixion, it brought to our attention just how much he suffered for the whole world. I don't think I've ever cried that much in any other movie.

I didn't know where to post this but in here, lol XD, but I was thinking about it, since I like to learn, I don't think there is anything wrong with a Christian being into monsters/mythology. No I don't think we need to believe these monsters exist or think we need to worship them, but some stuff is really interesting. Whether it be stuff from Greek/Roman mythology with Cerebus, to Japan with it's Youkai mythology, it's interesting stuff and if I can learn, I think that is good.

Like here's a fun fact, a lot of Pokémon designs are based on mythology, for example Lombre:

Are actually based off Kappa, a type of Japanese yokai that lives in rivers and eat cucumbers, or according to Bulbapedia:

" Lombre appears to be based on a lily pad. Its appearance is similar to the kappa - a Japanese yōkai that has a water-filled dish on its head and a turtle-like beak. It also resembles a stereotypical Mexican folk dancer or mariachi performer with its sombrero-shaped head and the markings on its body resembling a charro jacket."


Also, figured I would mention, the guy who created "Five Nights at Freddy's", he's Christian, like he legit is, here's a post I did in a different thread talking about him:

It’s definitely not wrong. I’m still working on posting that other stuff as it’s own thread. It’s just on the back burner because of life in general. I mostly write things, as far as religious stuff, for another site and retrofit it for this one but I’m working on other things there first.


Another really cool thing about Pokémon is that a lot of real evolutionary biology and ecology based concepts are used in the game. Such as island dwarfism and gigantism.
