The potter and the clay, teaches that one has been molded for one path or the other. Either to Honor, which is God's guarantee of your future, becoming a believer or the opposite, a vessel for dishonor. We are shaped and molded further throughout our walk on this temporal plane, in preparation for Eternity. This is an ongoing hewing of ourselves, which is God's work in us, after we believe. Similar, to what is taught here:
Exo_20:25 And if thou make me an altar of stone, thou shalt not build it of hewn stones; for if thou lift up thy tool upon it, thou hast polluted it.
God commanded the alter to be made of the stones as God had created them. Any attempt by man, to alter what God created, is deemed a pollution. Therefore God is the potter who originally formed us and is the Hewer, as we are shaped for Eternity.
