NO, YOU do not understand me, you see I had fallen for a FALSE GOSPEL, and it totally did not happen, until I was willing to surrender to HIM. I WAS PROUD OF LIVING MY LIFE MY WAY! You see the Church that I was a member of, TAUGHT to tell people they need to SURRENDER to JESUS was WORKS RIGHTEOUSNESS. I committed SUICIDE THREE TIMES in on week, the last week of 1977, two months before my 29 birthday. Yes, I was raised in a Church, and thought I was a Christian, because I took up space on a pew, and day-dreamed through every SERMON. I was NEVER A CHRISTIAN, but THOUGHT I WAS, ONLY BECAUSE I WAS IN CHURCH MOST SUNDAYS.

The reason for my SEVERE DEPRESSION was my wife told me On Christmas Eve, after we married six months prior to that; that SHE wanted a divorce, because I could not earn enough money to buy the things she wanted to buy. Some Reason! I hit bottom BIG TIME, and did not care if I hurt my parents, or brother and sister, or even my friends. I JUST DID NO WANT TO SEE ANOTHER DAY, and I REALLY WANTED TO END IT ALL, AND CEASE TO EXIST! The first two times was with a Pistol with a hair trigger. I had the Pistol against my temple with the trigger half pulled, WHEN SHEAR TERROR OVER CAME ME, and I Dropped the Pistol. That TERROR was way beyond what even a Mass Murderer could put in my heart, with KNIFE TO MY THROAT, could EVER PUT IN ME. I tried it again two nights later and the SAME TERROR OVERWHELMED ME.

PLEASE, NEVER TEST GOD THIS WAY, BECAUSE THE BIBLE SAYS, NEVER:
Matthew 4:7 (NRSV)

7 Jesus said to him, "Again it is written, 'Do not put the Lord your God to the test.'"

The Third Time I attempted SUICIDE was after I had saw a Road Crew pour a layer of very thick Gravel on a Dirt Road near my place, and I KNEW the Loose Gravel was the MOST DANGEROUS SURFACE TO RIDE ON. I went to my favorite watering hole on my Motorcycle, and continued to drink until I was three times as drunk as anyone had a right to be. We the Bar Closed I went home, ONLY to drop my Helmet OFF. And then went out to the loose gravel road. Thinking GOD probably did not exist, I looked up at the Sky, and TAUNTED HIM, as I cranked the Throttle WIDE OPEN a few yards from the Lose Gravel: "If you exist, YOU CAN TAKE ME ANYWHERE YOU WANT ME ON THIS MILE!" I shouted it at the top of my voice.

I kept the throttle wide open, and somewhere about the half mile mark, I remember thinking, "This feels like Pavement." So I continued full throttle. When I got to the end of the mile, I briefly stopped perpendicular to the Mile of loose Gravel, just wondering what had just happened. So I slowly went home to think about what happened, and to SOBER UP.

It was about 4:00 in the morning, when I started to go to bed, because it all had still, MADE NO SENSE, and when I crossed the threshold of the doorway something IMPORTANT HAPPENED TO ME. I believe THAT IS THE MOMENT THE HOLY SPIRIT TOOK UP RESIDENCE IN MY HEART. Wave after Wave of GRIEF and SORROW kept coming into my heart, for a couple hours; far greater than I have ever EXPERIENCED. That is the moment the HOLY SPIRIT made my SALVATION REAL, starting with DEEP CONVICTION, and because I could not believe HE could forgive a GREAT SINNER LIKE ME; HE gave me the Vision or Dream of Being at the CROSS.

You can believe what you want, but that MOMENT in time, is HOW I KNOW MY SALVATION WAS REAL, NOT BEFORE THEN. I KNOW I WAS STANDING IN THE GATES OF HADES AND HELL, BOTH NIGHTS I HAD THE PISTOL TO MY HEAD, READY TO WALK IN.

See Post #149,057 for the rest of the testimony.
I do see bro, I see god used all those circumstances to draw you to him, I fully believe when we get to heaven, we will see many thing god did we never even thought up, god is an a,axing God and like you praise him every day

You see the glass Salvation as Half Full, and I see the Glass of Salvation as Half Empty. Not seeing the glass of Salvation as FULL, is the same as Unsaved, or YET to be Born Again, in my opinion. I ABSOLUTELY KNOW IF I FINISHED PULLING THAT TRIGGER WITH THE PISTOL WAS POINTED AT MY TEMPLE, I WOULD BE IN HADES TODAY, AWAITING MY SENTENCING TO THE LAKE OF FIRE. THAT THOUGHT TERRIFIED ME TO THE CORE OF MY BEING. I dropped the pistol on the bed the first time, but the second time it hit the floor HARD, and I GOD had to have his hand on that Pistol, to keep it from going off.

TYPO: that I should not be there after that last AND: GOD had to have his hand on that Pistol, to keep it from going off.

God is amazing

i just look at salvation as a process, god works, different ways for different people, some he has to work harder on, but he knows if there is any chance you will call his name, he will point you IN that direction.

all we can say is Thank You Lord

his love is so powerful no one who has tasted his true love would ever want to completely fall away in unbelief
That's not what the Bible says...

Hebrews
6:4 For [it is] impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,
6:5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,
6:6 If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put [him] to an open shame.
6:7 For the earth which drinketh in the rain that cometh oft upon it, and bringeth forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receiveth blessing from God:
6:8 But that which beareth thorns and briers [is] rejected, and [is] nigh unto cursing; whose end [is] to be burned.

If they fall away

if is a question, if they fall way this would be true they could not be renewed to repentance.

read the next two verses about the rain and NEAR TO BEING CURSED. It sounds just like the passage in corinthians where our works are tried by fire, and those left with nothing but ashes are still saved even as though through fire (a scene of one leaving a burning building and has his life spared but nothing else left.)

it does not say one can lose salvation you can not lose eternal life, that’s why it’s called eternal

You have the misunderstanding and have bought into the false theology, that Salvation and Sanctification are the same thing, DON'T YOU HAVE THAT THEORY ? ? ?

They are NOT the SAME THING.

Salvation happened BEFORE TIME BEGAN, 2 Timothy 1:9.

RECEIVING Salvation happen in a single moment of time, and IT is Salvation of the Human Spirit, John 3:6, Ps. 51:12, Eph. 1:13.

SANCTIFICATION is learning to Conform the BODY TO WALK LIKE JESUS, and that will take a lifetime.

Yes, if you love me, he said, keep my commandments. Commandment keeping is the fruit of love which is poured into us by the Spirit of Grace when we received the gift of eternal life.
How do you know that was poured into you? Do you feel differently when you became a Christian? I'm wondering how someone is sure.
There is talk too here about God and predetermination. If someone doesn't feel different as a Christian is that the sign they aren't one of God's chosen people?

I can’t answer for other people’s salvific experience, but yes I felt differently. I went from being a God hater to a God lover. I went from torment to peace. But not just feeling different. Feelings are not a good barometer.

Instant. The moment I believed I was made new

Holy Spirit.
That is kind of vague if you don't mind me saying. If you hated God how did you all the sudden stop? What made you give God a chance? Something must have happened in your life. If that is all too personal just say so. I don't want you to feel you have to answer something that you want to keep private.

There was a spiritual battle for my life and soul. I was being ripped apart by evil. My eyes were opened to that reality. I also saw the ugliness of my sin and was made to see the holiness and Love of God. I trusted and called on Him and was saved and made new

Btw, I didn’t give God a chance. He pulled me out of the pit.

Jesus will reveal Himself to anyone who seeks a closer walk with Him. He loves you. You were made for communion with Him.

Revelation 3:20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

Life in Christ is a growing process. Sweeter gets the journey every day. Assurance will come. Just keep seeking a closer walk. We will walk together.

Luke
24:13 And, behold, two of them went that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was from Jerusalem [about] threescore furlongs.
24:14 And they talked together of all these things which had happened.
24:15 And it came to pass, that, while they communed [together] and reasoned, Jesus himself drew near, and went with them.

Don't worry about predetermination. There are many strange ideas floating around in here that are not Biblical. Satan will try to confuse you. The Holy Spirit will guide you unto deeper truth as you read, study, and meditate upon God's Word. God bless you.

Good post. I am not a predeterminist, but I do believe there is a biblical concept of election and predestination. But I do not hold to hard predeterminism.

I do not want to discuss predeterminism here. There is a thread on election and foreknowledge where that will better fit.
