Mark 2: 27 Jesus said to them, "The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath. 28 "So the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath."
Jesus makes it clear that He has the power to change the Law, or abolish the Law, in totality or in part, after the Law has been fulfilled.
Matthew 5: 17 "Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets ; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill.18 "For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass from the Law until all is accomplished.
He also makes it clear that the fulfillment of the Law has not occurred yet. That is why He followed the Sabbath during His lifetime, though not as the Pharisees required. He also states that His purpose is to fulfill the Law. The Law was fulfilled at the cross. Fulfilled means that it is no longer in effect.
Romans 10: 4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.
Paul here affirms that Christ has fulfilled the Law, therefore it is accomplished, meeting the requirements set forth in Matthew 5: 18. Just as if you fulfill the requirements of a debt, by paying it off, the debt is no longer a debt, but is accomplished. It is the same with the Law.
Galatians 3: 13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law, having become a curse for us-for it is written, "CURSED IS EVERYONE WHO HANGS ON A TREE "- 14 in order that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we would receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
We are longer under the Law. Christ has set us free! Thank God!
Galatians 5: 1 It was for freedom that Christ set us free ; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery. 2 Behold I, Paul, say to you that if you receive circumcision, Christ will be of no benefit to you. 3 And I testify again to every man who receives circumcision, that he is under obligation to keep the whole Law. 4 You have been severed from Christ, you who are seeking to be justified by law ; you have fallen from grace.
It has been made abundantly clear throughout the O.T. that if you fail in one part of the Law, you fail in all things. Therefore, if you insist on obeying the Sabbath Laws, which were meant only for the nation of Israel in the first place, as was circumcision, then you must obey ALL of the Law. Good luck with that.
