If there is a parent sub, could someone let me know? Thank you

I just need to get this out. Right now I feel frustrated, upset, worried, scared, clueless ect. I'm going to also post in the prayer sub.

My kids are not doing so well with online schooling. Where we live, the schools are closed for in-person teaching. Everyday is a battle right now. Constant screaming, yelling, stomping, and tears from my kids over completing their school work. They have zoom twice a day and then have 10+ assignments to complete on top of doing their spelling, reading, math programs which is just 15 mins each but that's 15 mins added to those assignments. I feel so wrong about this schooling. I'm frustrated because we are spending all our days trying to get them to focus on their school work and them hating school right now. My 5 year old is already hating school.

The teachers keep emailing and messaging on different apps they make you check and then ask for parents sometimes in their zoom sessions. This seems ridiculous to me especially I had to stop my own work and my husband is working from home unable to concentrate. They are concerned my son has alot of missing assignments AND I am thankful for their concern. If he was getting his work wrong then I would be more concerned but he getting perfect scores but just missing assignments since they give assignments daily so it just keeps adding up. My kids love learning, just not this robotic learning by themselves.

They feel so young to be online worrying about all these deadlines. The teachers sending message after message saying they Need to get grading done by this date and please have these ready and please get these assignments done ect. I know everyone is stressed but they are asking too much for these kids right now.

Homeschooling seems to be the answer but my kids thrived in school when it was at school, plus had their friends and teachers they love. I don't want to take that away from them if school starts back up. So torn about this but everyday is just constant anger from my kids.

Just looking for other parents feedback and what is working with you all and what is not working ect....or anyones vents or disagreements whatever.. Trying to be open minded and just keep positive for them even though they just breakdown to me.

Also, I wanted to add that my husband and I was talking about this last night and just feel like the school district could be more flexible because the teachers are teaching every subject in one zoom session and expecting the kids to sit there and be interested. I watched the teachers and it was so monotonous and boring!

I would say its not easy and definitely much harder on the parents when the children are used to going to school, and really not the thing for children under 12.

I work in primary school as librarians and with ours and we just say to parents spend time with your children, do some learning activities as suggested but do NOT worry about grades or assignments.

its just way to hard expecially with more than one child, and parents maybe having to work from home as well. One class had zoom prayer, othes had breakfast check ins, but they didnt have lessons.

I did a video and a story time just as a hello, keep in touch thing really, and online kahoot quizzes but they were just for fun.

some parents who might have been teachers themselves had a very regimented routine but also depending on their childs ability and desire to learn would do 'homework' every day and try to stick to the 9-3 schedule but after a few days that completley falls apart!

the minstry of education here sent out learning packs. which included books and some stationery, and activity work sheets etc. The best thing you can really do is take the time to read with your children, maybe read out loud and read books for pleasure.
if thry can write and draw just get them to practice doing that, or bake, or play some games together.

Whether you are home schooling, or in classroom schooling, every parent should read to their children, read with their children, and have their children read to the parents. Start the day they are born, and continue until the day they leave home. It's called daily devotion time.

Stop all that and discipline them correctly.
We homeschooled 4 children. Nagging, screaming and yelling has never worked ever. The Bible teaches proper correction, you are a Christian do what the Bible says. It works.

The Bible says train up a child in the way they should go. This don't mean take them to Sunday school once a week. It don't mean spank them for everything either. It means to actively train them.
We have all been in some kind of training but don't know how to train. How weird our culture is (Christian culture).

I'm so sorry your family is experiencing all this right now. It's a hard time that's for sure. Many schools are still adjusting to all these changes.

It sounds like online schooling is a bit overwhelming for your family and kiddos. 5 years old and already hating school because of problems with virtual school? :( That's one of the most fun years.....
How long is your district looking at doing the virtual thing?
I know you mentioned that you don't want to homeschool b/c they did well in class and friends etc but for the time being it might be a better option. Maybe at least until your district reopens in person.
I homeschool one of mine. I can help you get info (even if it's just to answer questions and look into it) if you are interested.

yesterday was the first day back at school today.
I think everyone that was there was glad to be back.

OP if you not happy with how your school has handled the lockdowns etc youve got to give them your feedback. It has been stressful for everyone including the teachers.

if its too much online stuff you need to say I prefer books and pens and pencils, or being sent some kit sets to do with my children.

if you live in a rural area consider what correspondence school is already doing and podcasts. Also look for family support if youve got a large family...grandparents, aunties, uncles, older siblings. Have a buddy system, some children learn better with a mentor or by being a mentor than being on their own.

Texas School Boards have had enough of remote learning. The main complaint is that the children are for the most part failing in their schooling.
22 Texas School Districts END Remote Learning * A slew of reports the past few days * Over 34,000 students * 100% In-Person. No remote option * All with the same story - all say 40-70% of the remote learners were failing

Our district went back and forth over how to start the school year, eventually settling on giving the families the option of choosing to do virtual through the district or return to in person with the option to switch from virtual back to in person after the first quarter. They just sent out the surveys to see where people stand on this now. It will be interesting to see how many people return to in person. There were so many problems the first few weeks with systems crashing and not being able to log in. The robo calls from the district were 98% information for virtual families about these tech issues. I personally don't know anyone who took the virtual option through the district (those I know who choose virtual did so through the online schools, NOT through the school district, and they seem just fine with that) But it will be interesting to see in a few weeks just how many people return to in person or not.
