I agree that Jesus didn’t actually break an Old Testament command. He violated the interpretations religious leaders had developed around the biblical commands of keeping the Sabbath day holy.

the Pharisees added their own laws....the same way, the people who say they keep the sabbath in 2020 do.

Do you keep the sabbath day holy?
No. I have no righteousness of my own. I can only rely on Christ.

There are Christians, who does not consider themselves of Ephraimite-Israelites, scattered among the Gentiles, and to them the extent of the Law of Acts 15:20 (one verse) seems to apply (prohibition against blasphemy, theft, coveting and bearing false witness is not even mentioned). To the Christians that consider themselves to be of Ephraimite-Israelites, scattered among the Gentiles, the same Law applies, as that which applies forever to the Israelites, ie. Christ Yeshua, and his twelve apostles, as well as the Judahite-Israelites among the Jews, ie. the 613 mitzvot , of which the nexus is God's 10 commandments, of love for God and fellow man as self, of Exodus 20 or Deuteronomy 5.

Acts 15 (ESV)

16 "'After this I will return, and I will rebuild the tent of David that has fallen; I will rebuild its ruins, and I will restore it, 17 that the remnant of mankind may seek the Lord, and all the Gentiles who are called by my name, says the Lord, who makes these things 18 known from of old.' 19 Therefore my judgment is that we should not trouble those of the Gentiles who turn to God, 20 but should write to them to abstain from the things polluted by idols, and from sexual immorality, and from what has been strangled, and from blood. 21 For from ancient generations Moses has had in every city those who proclaim him, for he is read every Sabbath in the synagogues."

God and his will is eternal, the same in 1000 BC as in 2020 AC, and the same into eternity.

We strive to come closer to the will of God, in walking the way Christ Yeshua walked, and showed us.

1 John 2 (ESV)

4 Whoever says "I know him" but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him, 5 but whoever keeps his word, in him truly the love of God is perfected. By this we may know that we are in him: 6 whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked.

Luke 4 (ESV)

16 And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up. And as was his custom, he went to the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and he stood up to read.

Exodus 31 (ESV)

16 Therefore the people of Israel shall keep the Sabbath, observing the Sabbath throughout their generations, as a covenant forever.

Leviticus 16 (ESV)

31 It is a Sabbath of solemn rest to you, and you shall afflict yourselves; it is a statute forever.

Leviticus 24 (ESV)

8 Every Sabbath day Aaron shall arrange it before the Lord regularly; it is from the people of Israel as a covenant forever.

2 Chronicles 2 (ESV)

4 Behold, I am about to build a house for the name of the Lord my God and dedicate it to him for the burning of incense of sweet spices before him, and for the regular arrangement of the showbread, and for burnt offerings morning and evening, on the Sabbaths and the new moons and the appointed feasts of the Lord our God, as ordained forever for Israel.

Yes, we strive to keep our seventh day set apart to God, ie. holy, as he has freed us eternally from the bondage of slavery to sin, by the atonement offering of his Son, Christ Yeshua.

Deuteronomy 5 (ESV)

12 "'Observe the Sabbath day, to keep it holy, as the Lord your God commanded you. 13 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 14 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, you or your son or your daughter or your male servant or your female servant, or your ox or your donkey or any of your livestock, or the sojourner who is within your gates, that your male servant and your female servant may rest as well as you. 15 You shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and the Lord your God brought you out from there with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm. Therefore the Lord your God commanded you to keep the Sabbath day.

Just curious if you:
Buy anything on sabbath?
Sell anything on sabbath?
Start a fire on sabbath?
Go out to eat on sabbath?
Cook on sabbath?

No, we try not to do anything on the seventh day of rest (the one day dedicated to spend with the One, with whom we have our most important relationship), that could have been done in preparation on the other six.

Again he entered the synagogue, and a man was there who had a withered hand. They watched him to see whether he would cure him on the sabbath, so that they might accuse him. And he said to the man who had the withered hand, “Come forward.” Then he said to them, “Is it lawful to do good or to do harm on the sabbath, to save life or to kill?” But they were silent. He looked around at them with anger; he was grieved at their hardness of heart and said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He stretched it out, and his hand was restored. The Pharisees went out and immediately conspired with the Herodians against him, how to destroy him. (Mark 3:1–6)

oh no. on the Sabbath. the key to understanding this passage without taking sides with the Pharisees, is to understand the reason for the law given to Moses to give to the Israelites. reading the passage above today (read the whole chapter even better) we say we see the hypocrisy of the Pharisees, but what about those who insist Jesus was sinless and never broke any portion of the law?

perhaps the answer lies in priorities. or perhaps in a person's desire to be 'sinless' so as not be under condemnation

so why then, did Jesus heal on the Sabbath when God said to set that day apart right in the Decalogue (10 commandments) and do no work on that day ?
things changed when Jesus was baptized and anointed to preach the gospel of the kingdom until that point all his life he was an Israelite under law. We don’t see that part of Jesus life , we see the part when he is anointed and begins preaching the New Testament Which takes authority over the old.

Many times Jesus rebuked points of
Moses law for his followers. Stoning other sinners , judging each other for our sins , eating certain foods , the sabbath day , the law of marriage and divorce , swearing to anything , how we treat our enemies an eye for an eye v turn the other cheek ect

it’s different because the appointed time had come for the new covenant. Jesus lives under the law , but was anointed to bring it to a culmination and provide a better way

for me, this thread is history :)

I doubt anyone who has not read or participated in this thread previously, is going to read the entire thing, without which, your response is most likely not going to address what the op was about anyway

further, some people did read the entire thing and still are clueless and I am not interested in explaining my intent to those people all over again when they believe the gospels and several other books are not doctrinal in any way

and since I created the op, well, that's the lay of the land

there are 2 reasons I am no longer responding to anyone.

the reason above and the fact I have the Sabbath keepers and Hebrew Roots types on ignore :giggle:

2 Thessalonians 2 (ESV)

1 Now concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered together to him, we ask you, brothers, 2 not to be quickly shaken in mind or alarmed, either by a spirit or a spoken word, or a letter seeming to be from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord has come. 3 Let no one deceive you in any way. For that day will not come, unless the rebellion comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction, 4 who opposes and exalts himself against every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, proclaiming himself to be God. 5 Do you not remember that when I was still with you I told you these things? 6 And you know what is restraining him now so that he may be revealed in his time. 7 For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work. Only he who now restrains it will do so until he is out of the way. 8 And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will kill with the breath of his mouth and bring to nothing by the appearance of his coming. 9 The coming of the lawless one is by the activity of Satan with all power and false signs and wonders, 10 and with all wicked deception for those who are perishing, because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. 11 Therefore God sends them a strong delusion, so that they may believe what is false, 12 in order that all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness. 13 But we ought always to give thanks to God for you, brothers beloved by the Lord, because God chose you as the firstfruits to be saved, through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth. 14 To this he called you through our gospel, so that you may obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. 15 So then, brothers, stand firm and hold to the traditions that you were taught by us, either by our spoken word or by our letter. 16 Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God our Father, who loved us and gave us eternal comfort and good hope through grace, 17 comfort your hearts and establish them in every good work and word.

Christian Gentiles do not have to keep the Sabbath. Christian Ephraimite-Israelites among the Gentiles take joy in spending this day with the Lord, as well as Christian Judahite-Israelites among the Jews, forever, in the past, now and in their generations to come.

‭‭John‬ ‭5:39-40, 45-46‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Christ doesn’t lead us into sin , he leads us into actual repentance through mercy and truth and releasing us from the curse of the law
Non-Ephraimite Gentile Christians are not under Israel law,. Christian Ephraimite-Israelites among the Gentiles, and Christian Judahite-Israelites among the Jews, are freed from the yoke of the law as justified by Christ Yeshua, and are not lawless, but have God's laws of love ( 613 mitzvot ) written on their hearts and minds, resulting in their walk of life in Christ Yeshua's ways.

2 Peter 3 (ESV)

15 And count the patience of our Lord as salvation, just as our beloved brother Paul also wrote to you according to the wisdom given him, 16 as he does in all his letters when he speaks in them of these matters. There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures. 17 You therefore, beloved, knowing this beforehand, take care that you are not carried away with the error of lawless people and lose your own stability. 18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.

Even though I disagree with you that NT Christians should keep the sabbath.....I have nothing but respect for you if you feel like you need abstain from those things

I have found many who say that they keep the sabbath and all they mean by that is.......thats the day we have to go to church
the sabbath was made a single day holier than the others , when we receive the Holy Spirit our rest becomes found in Christ not observing a certain day , but loving everyday as if the Lord is present with and in us because that’s what it means to receive the Holy Ghost today is the sabbath , and tomorrow and the next day because of the rest we find in him

“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart:

and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭11:28-30‬ ‭KJV‬‬

I’m not at all arguing that the sabbath isn’t a good thing to keep , I’m saying of it was about keeping a certain day of the week , or what foods we eat like tha Pharisees thought because of the law saying it makes you unclean

“And he called the multitude, and said unto them, Hear, and understand: Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man;

but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man.

Then came his disciples, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the Pharisees were offended, after they heard this saying?”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭15:10-12‬ ‭KJV‬‬

If we focus on the old things we can’t see the new

“But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same veil untaken away in the reading of the old testament;

which veil is done away in Christ. But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the veil is upon their heart. Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the veil shall be taken away.”
‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭3:14-16‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Moses foretold that another would come from among israel of thier brethren and he would speak Gods true words that would never change that’s what Jesus was saying about Moses writing about him in the law

One is under Moses law if they repent and believe the gospel and are baptized into his death for their sins , that removes the believer from the law of Moses and receiving the spirit brings them into the new covenant thier covenant became a curse because they chose it for generations , that curse is why all the world needs salvation and can only get it through Christ Jew gentile African Asian doesn’t matter Abraham’s promise is what matters it was made for all Peoples of the earth who would be blessed through Christ if they repent and believe the gospel he sent out from Jerusalem to all people.

old things aren’t going to be remembered God is making things new a new covenant is where that promise starts

For non-Israel Christians (Gentiles), under the new covenant, refer to Acts 15:20.

For Israel-Christians (Ephraimites among the Gentiles and Judahites among the Jews), under the new covenant, the law is not done away with, Christ Yeshua removed the yoke of the law, and wrote the law of love for God and fellow man as self ( 613 mitzvot ) on their hearts and minds:

Hebrews 8 (ESV)

8 ..."Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will establish a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah, 9 not like the covenant that I made with their fathers on the day when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt. For they did not continue in my covenant, and so I showed no concern for them, declares the Lord. 10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my laws into their minds, and write them on their hearts, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

Revelation 21 (ESV)

2 And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. 9 Then came one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls full of the seven last plagues and spoke to me, saying, "Come, I will show you the Bride, the wife of the Lamb." 10 And he carried me away in the Spirit to a great, high mountain, and showed me the holy city Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God, 12 It had a great, high wall, with twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and on the gates the names of the twelve tribes of the sons of Israel were inscribed— 24 By its light will the nations walk, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it, 25 and its gates will never be shut by day—and there will be no night there. 26 They will bring into it the glory and the honor of the nations.

brother the entire church began with Israel it was then spread to the earth the gentiles were included fully together with Israel all that matters is faith that’s what makes a person a child of Abraham the flesh and blood have nothing to do with it anymore.

“Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham.

And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed. So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham.

That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.

There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.

And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.”
‭‭Galatians‬ ‭3:7-9, 14, 26-29‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Flesh and blood no longer mean anything to God, it doesn’t matter if we’re born a Jew or a gentile what makes us a child of Abraham is faith on Christ.

it doesn’t make a person an Israelite because they were born of an Israeli bloodline not since Christ

“Not as though the word of God hath taken none effect. For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel:

Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children:

but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called.

That is, They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God: but the children of the promise are counted for the seed.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭9:6-8‬ ‭KJV‬‬

the gentiles and Jews is a thing of this world Gods kingdom is not according to flesh and blood , Christ is the seed that matters born of Gods promise we are like Isaac born because God said it and we believe

He came first to Israel Of the flesh but they rejected him and so faith became the measure

He came unto his own, and his own received him not.

But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.”
‭‭John‬ ‭1:11-13‬ ‭KJV‬‬

What blood is in our veins doesn’t matter the blood shed on the cross and faith on the messiah makes Abraham our father male female Jew gentile old young dark skin light skin ......irrelevant all

“If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward: How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery;

Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit; That the Gentiles should be fellowheirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel:”

‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭3:2-3, 5-6‬ ‭

The gentiles were always included in Abraham’s promise through the gospel Gods people are the faithful in Christ , but God made it known through The gospel of the kingdom

“Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands;

That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:

But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ. For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;

Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace; And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby:

And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh. For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father. Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;

And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;”
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭2:11-20‬ ‭KJV‬‬

The Old Testament seperated israel from everyone else they became gentiles all the other people , the New Testament removes the wall between Jews and gentiles and God is making one people , with one shepherd
