Demons believe the gospel but are not saved, what is missing?

Demons aren't man, but are the disembodied spirits of nephilim, the offspring of fallen angels and women. They cannot be saved, as they have no kinsman-redeemer. The time for believing is on Earth, and is available to men and women, as we have a kinsman-redeemer. We are to believe on Him and His perfect sacrifice for us, for our salvation.
That is not what is stated in the Bible. What do demons believe? They believe that God is in fact God, and Christ is in fact God (they called Him the Son of God, meaning that He is God). Therefore they also believe that they are eternally doomed and damned. Hence they trembled at the presence of Christ, and tried to distance themselves from Him. This was not faith but fear.
Act 16:31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
The bible says that people who believe ON Jesus will be saved. Many people believe IN Jesus, but very few believe ON Jesus.
That is a ridiculous distinction, and only makes the KJV-only position look (more) inane. Try explaining it without using a circular argument.
A perfect point. But it leaves me wondering if it is possible to believe Christ can save, but not use Christ for the forgiveness of our sin, but to keep our sin without asking Him to forgive? Scripture tells us that belief is enough, but you could believe God could forgive without asking Him to free us of our sin.
Believing that Christ "can" save is not the same thing as believing that He WILL save. The latter means trusting that our sins are forgiven and that we will inherit eternal life despite them.
If you put your trust/faith/belief in Christ for salvation, you are acknowledging the need for salvation, which means you are admitting that you are a sinner and you are repenting of your sin. From the moment of salvation, the Holy Spirit comes to live in you, and He begins the life-long process of conforming you to Christlikeness. You never need to ask consciously for Jesus to free you from your sins (though there is certainly no harm in doing so); He does it anyway.
That verse would tell us there is something more to accepting Christ in our life that only believing!!

The devils believe in Jesus - the subject exists, but they don't believe on - accept implicitly as an object of TRUST or OBEDIENCE.
What I think has no importance at all, it is what is the Lord's truth we are after.
What many who listen carefully to the Lord think is more likely to be the truth.
Like repenting and asking the Lord to forgive our sins. Just knowing that He can and would if you ask is not enough.
What about this verse ? “But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness” (Rom. 4:5).
During the church age this is the case . Not so during the tribulation.
What if you were driving and you looked at a passing jogger inappropriately and just before you asked for forgiveness you skidded, hit a tree and died. Would you go to hell ?
