Interesting! I found this:

The earliest witnesses by a long shot do not contain what we today call verse 24. The verse is absent in Papyrus 46 (late second/early third century), Codex א and Codex B (fourth-century), Codex A and Codex C (both fifth century), Papyrus 61 (seventh or eighth century) Uncial 0150 and Minuscule 2464 (ninth century), and other later Greek manuscripts on through the middle ages. An eighth-century Old Latin manuscript (itb) and the early copies of the Vulgate also lack the verse. Likewise, the verse is absent in virtually the entire Coptic manuscript tradition across all the various dialects.

The verse, as it is found in the KJV, is present in Codex D (sixth century), Codex L and Codex Ψ (ninth century), and in the majority of later medieval Greek manuscripts. It is found in Old Latin manuscripts from the sixth century and afterward. Later copies of the Vulgate contain the verse as well, as do some later Syriac manuscripts. The verse is also found in the Old Slavonic translation. To these witnesses, one could also add Codex F and G (both ninth century), which contain most of the verse, though they lack the words "Jesus Christ," saying only, "The grace of our Lord be with you all. Amen." Altogether, there is no evidence of the verse prior to the sixth century AD, and in the earliest of these witnesses, though the words are in verse 24, they are missing at the end of verse 20.

Interestingly, there are still other manuscripts that do not have verse 24 but that do repeat the words of verse 20, "the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you, Amen," just in another place instead. Codex P and Minuscule 33 (ninth century), and a number of other Greek manuscripts on through the middle ages contain these words, the same words as Roman 16:24, but not in the same location. In these copies, the phrase comes at the end of the chapter, after verse 27. This is also the reading of the Syriac Peshitta, some Vulgate manuscripts, a few late Coptic manuscripts, and in the Armenian, Ethiopic, and Georgian translations. source

I believe the original colonists to America brought with them and used the Geneva Bible. They, and many others, viewed the KJV as the “kings” Bible used to promote the states Church, the Church of England. It was only later that incoming colonists brought increasing copies of the “New” Bible and it rose in popularity.

I cant be bothered with corrupt versions. You waste too much time trying to fill in the gaps.

Verse 8 provides context critical to understanding verse 9:

KJV "For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light: (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)

NASB "for you were formerly darkness, but now you are Light in the Lord; walk as children of Light (for the fruit of the Light consists in all goodness and righteousness and truth),"

The NASB rendering of the verse is coherent with the preceding verse, where the KJV is not.

As in every case of divergent wordings, it is important to look at the original language, rather than trying to make a determination based on merely the English. The Greek word rendered "light" in verse 9 of the NASB is photos; the word translated "Spirit" in the KJV is pneumatos. The issue is one of different source material.

A possible and plausible explanation is that a scribe who was familiar with Galatians 5:22 mis-wrote Ephesians 5:9 to match, and that manuscript happened to be one that was preserved, eventually landing in the texts of Erasmus, Stephanus, and Beza, and subsequently, the KJV.

1 Timothy 6:10
"For the love of money is the root of all evil..."
Other translations, including the NKJV have corrected this error.

I guess you can't be bothered with learning the issues that adequately explain the differences, nor with considering that the KJV is not the standard against which other translations should be measured.

“Fruit of the light” is NOT a Pauline expression. It is NOT Paul’s style. There is no such thing as “fruit of the light” anywhere in either Testament.

I'd recommend having a bible study with a group who are using a variety of translations . We did one where we had the Niv , Nasb, nkjv , kjv and a couple of others . This was a revelation to me . The difference was really clear as we went through the new testament. Not even subtle in many places. I wasn't a particular user of the kjv ,prior to this . After seeing how radically the modern translations do not compare to the kjv with ' context ' i started to trust and rely on the kjv . Thats not changed till today . I'm not Kjv only . But the kjv is the most reliable and consistent translation we have. I trust the kjv above all .
