Hello everyone. I wanted to ask if you could please pray for a friend of mine that's just been diagnosed with possible Temporal Lobe Epilepsy (TLE) with derealization. He was prescribed a medication, Carbamazepine, that's causing a lot of side effects, with no benefits so far.

He's a wonderful person with an amazing heart for God and others. Medical care is not easily accessible where he is, which is now more complicated by a country-wide strict lockdown.

Also, if anyone has any information or experience with TLE or focal seizures please do share!

I have Epilepsy. I have spatial seizures of unknown origin. I was on Tegretal (Carbamazepine) for several years, and it controlled my seizure activity almost 100%. It does have a serious side effect that needs to be tracked. It can deplete your sodium level. I was put on TrileptolVimpat when my sodium level dipped. It is quite expensive if you don't have insurance, but it has been 100% effective for me. Finding the best treatment can take months. Don't give up.

I would suggest that your friend find a good neurologist who specializes in seizure disorders. It is the most important thing he can do. I travel 85 miles to see mine. Also go to the website epilepsy.com. They have a lot of information there. Use it for support, not diagnosis.

Correction to the above. please reread. I need to stop using cut and paste.

Another bit of info on dealing with medications for Epilepsy.

All medications have some side effects. A good neurologist knows about them and can adjust medications to deal with them.

Unfortunately it takes a few weeks to bring a medication up to therapeutic levels, and with any change in medication you must bring the old medication down as you bring the new one up to therapeutic level. Stopping cold turkey may result in serious side effects.

I also recommend keeping a diary of your seizures. What happens in the moments before, during, and after a seizure is very important to your treatment plan.
