How do you feel about tattoos as a Christian?
I've heard different arguments for them and against them using passages from the bible, but how do you feel?
I feel that it can be used as another way to proclaim your love for God.
 
I think its up to you and God. we will have a new body when we get to heaven and my son and i have tattoos and God looks at my heart .
 
Tattoos seem like an unneeded addition to the human body just like piercings. God created you just the way you are.
 
Not to seem argumentative, but if it's about retaining the way you were made, does that rule out things like dying your hair or wearing makeup?

I guess, personally I don't like those things anyway.
 
In Old Testement times it was a definite no. There is a clear written law against it. Pagans all over the world in that day and today still use them as signs of worship to false Gods. I know people who tattoo Scripture to themselves so they have an excuse to witness to people. After Christ Atones for your sins, any sin is allowable, but not all is profitable. 1 Cor 10:23 There's also a verse that tells us to avoid the face of evil-- what may look like evil to the unbeliever-- to soil our name as chosen one of God. That's why I personally think it depends on the tattoo, it's purpose and what it will end up doing.
 
I like this topic right now. Tattoos. The town I live in has about 5 tattoo shops, alot of talented artists.

But I am not into tatoos, have none, will never get one.

Anybody whether they call themselves christian or non-christian can and will get angry at you for thinking it is permissible to have a tatoo. They don't like it, but they are just nosy, and an annoyance, if they are not your parents when you are a child, or your husband or wife, then who cares. It's your body. Who are you trying to please?

Now it is true, you may be judged differently when you go for job interviews or seek out a girlfriend/boyfriend, or significant other, but then if you got the tatoo in the first place you would find someone who is okay with it.

Think of other countries, like Native American or Africans. They appreciate body art, and it is very meaningful and significant, as well as some tatoos in America. They do something for your spirit and faith, and are significant to you, for example when a man gets a tatoo of his wife's name or his children on his arm. He is showing his love and devotion. And hey, if your friend is the tatoo artist, maybe he just go it for free.

But, then others will say you are defaming your body which is a temple of the Holy Spirit. So, in your interpretation, before doing something to your body understand what that is to you, and be comfortable.

Many have tatoos of a cross, or something that represents their knowledge of Jesus, and it is a picture image on their body, it encourages them, their family, and others when they see it. Instead of wearing something like a cross necklace or earrings.

Thnk more openmindledly and God will show you why certain things still do exist on this earth, and why others need to be eradicated. But it does get annoying when others make choices, and they want you to abide by theirs. One big conflict, that wastes all our energy. But it makes the world go round, and our brains tick.

Tattoshops usually have a lot of occult stuff in their shop: occult paintings, impurity, immoral stuff, they are usually covert in all kinds of bad tattoos.

To get a tatoo takes time. You are going to be totally under the hands of such people for a couple of hours for often more than one time. You think this spiritually environment is not going to affect you?? Jesus protects his people to the extend they live with him, thus purposely endangering yourself is never a good idea. Secondly I hear from a lot of people that getting a tattoo is very addictive. I think addiction is never just a natural phenomenon and has always a spiritual dark background, especially for tattoos you might wonder why it is addictive since it has no stimulating chemicals influencing your body.

Saying that getting a tattoo for God doesn't change anything. I mean, committing adultery in the church to be a sign of 'love' doesn't change a thing about the fact that it is adultery and that it is bad for you.

However in any case, just pray. A friend of mine thought about getting one, I did not give any comments, but he came shortly before getting one to the conclusion that it is not a good idea when he prayed over it.

The process of getting a tattoo causes your brain to release endorphines, chocolate does the same.
 
you got a bit of a point there, however I get the impression that there is more to it. In the end its your decision :).
 
Ever since I've accepted the Lord into my heart and began walking his path, normally if I find myself wondering about if I should or should not do something or if it's wrong or right, something inside me always gives me the answer. Most of the time I don't have to make a conscious effort to avoid bad things, I just do. I believe it is the Lord inside me. I think that I've come to the conclusion that went it comes down to it, it's going to between you and the Lord. Therefore you shouldn't get anything that would shame him or shame yourself. Like maybe a verse or what I have planned for my chest piece. However, if you have to explain a naked lady or flaming skull tattooed on your body, then that might not go very well.

If you can reach people to be saved to help them so already/ why get a tattoo to reach them ?? But I do not know if it really will help somebody reach people and if so it may rarely do that. Make sure your church thinks it's a good idea so there's no conflict..Likely it is not a wise choice though many have got them..If a trusted christian tells you not to get one DO not get one . The Gospel needs no improvements = Romans 1:16. Make sure of things. Do not though really compromise the witness you got. Let God save people as you show your life too.
