I've noticed everything that I might take pride in kind of breaks down when I analyze it. Satisfaction, sure - I can be glad I have this and happy that I chose to do that. But pride doesn't really make sense.

I can't really take pride in my intelligence. I didn't go to Walmart and pick out the brain I have. It's just the brain I was given. I didn't even work for it.

I can't really take pride in having more than someone else. We both lose it all when we die. Besides, stuff is just stuff. I can't justify feeling bad about not having as much as somebody else either.

I can't really take pride in being better at something that somebody else. I didn't choose how to make myself with the abilities I have. If you give one child five blocks and another child ten blocks, can the second child be proud because he can build a taller tower? I also can't be jealous of somebody who is better at something than I am. He was given more blocks for that particular tower.

I guess that's why "vain" means both "prideful" and "totally useless."

When we read a horrible story in the news, say, of a man who kills his whole family and himself, we see at least that it happened to somebody else, so our conscience isn't involved.

When we read such a horrible story, in fact, we ARE reading about ourselves, as all sin is the same abandonment and insult to God.

However, when we first gave our trust in Jesus' heroism on our behalf, whatever sin we were formerly involved in happened to somebody else; it happened to Jesus and our conscience isn't involved. That's what happens at the moment of our salvation.

Jesus took responsibility for our wrong, and we are beyond reproach. For this to be true, Jesus was put to death and went to Hell.

Since Jesus actually had no sin, which is evil to everyone else, and since what Jesus did as a hero saved all who allow the arrangement, Jesus was no longer libel to eternal punishment for sin but was allowed to rise from his grave in the glory of his accomplishment.

It was our salvation that saved Jesus; Jesus' saving of us was the opposite of sin and he was no longer disqualified to go to heaven.

Since our salvation brought acquittal to Jesus, should any Believer be able to lose his salvation, Jesus would have to go back to the grave and to Hell, and that will never happen. We are welcomed to Heaven without the possibility that what Jesus did for us was not enough.

Do not mislay the fact that a new creation is made of every person who accepts salvation in faith in Jesus.

This new creature cannot take unfair advantage of God, for each time forgetfulness brings sin, the Believer is trying to be something he no longer is. The only thing that feels comfortable to the reborn is holiness, and that will be true forever.

Technology gives us the ability to go and do.

Philosophy gives us the ability to understand why we go and do it.

Neither is more important than the other, and adherents of either should not despise followers of the other. But there sure are a lot of navel-gazers and motorheads/nerds insulting each other.

The "leave it alone" part is the tricky part. I find deliberately finding something else to do, to distract my brain from picking it back up, helps a lot.

Amen brother. How often I have given a situation to God to handle--for He is more capable than I; only to turn around and worry about it again. It is like God saying: "If you insist on keeping that problem, feel free." 5banghead.gif

5. Don’t buy stuff you don’t need.
6. You don’t have to win every argument. Stay true to yourself.
7. Cry with someone. It’s more healing than crying alone.
8. It’s OK to get angry with God. He can take it.
9. Save for things that matter.
10. When it comes to chocolate, resistance is futile.
11. Make peace with your past so it won’t screw up the present.
12. It’s OK to let your children see you cry.
13. Don’t compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about.
14. If a relationship has to be a secret, you shouldn’t be in it.
15. Everything can change in the blink of an eye… But don’t worry; God never blinks.
16. Take a deep breath. It calms the mind.
17. Get rid of anything that isn’t useful. Clutter weighs you down in many ways.
18. Whatever doesn’t kill you really does make you stronger.
19. It’s never too late to be happy. But it’s all up to you and no one else.
20. When it comes to going after what you love in life, don’t take no for an answer.
21. Burn the candles, use the nice sheets, wear the fancy lingerie. Don’t save it for a special occasion. Today is special.
22. Overprepare, then go with the flow.
23. Be eccentric now. Don’t wait for old age to wear purple.
24. The most important sex organ is the brain.
25. No one is in charge of your happiness but you.
26. Frame every so-called disaster with these words, ‘In five years, will this matter?’
27. Always choose Life.
28. Forgive but don’t forget.
29. What other people think of you is none of your business.
30. Time heals almost everything. Give Time time.
31. However good or bad a situation is, it will change.
32. Don’t take yourself so seriously. No one else does.
33. Believe in miracles.
34. God loves you because of who God is, not because of anything you did or didn’t do.
35. Don’t audit life. Show up and make the most of it now.
36. Growing old beats the alternative — dying young.
37. Your children get only one childhood.
38. All that truly matters in the end is that you loved.
39. Get outside every day. Miracles are waiting everywhere.
40. If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else’s, we’d
grab ours back.
41. Envy is a waste of time. Accept what you already have, not what you think you need.
42. The best is yet to come…
43. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.
44. Yield.
45. Life isn’t tied with a bow, but it’s still a gift.
