Someone asked the same question recently.

The answer is in Hebrews 11:1. Read a variety of translations to get the sense of it.

So then it seems like faith is having confidence in something because you’ve had past experiences and that you can look back on them to be repeatable.

Do we not get confidence in some thing or someone buy a past experiences
There are many reasons with which someone may earn the respect and assurance in our view

We could never have faith in Christ if this is the case. It must be deeper than this

"Faith is a steady and certain knowledge of the Divine benevolence towards us, which, being founded on the truth of the gratuitous promise in Christ, is both revealed to our minds, and confirmed to our hearts, by the Holy Spirit.”

honestly, you have a very poetic way of putting that and I appreciate it. The only problem is that I have heard Mormons and Jehovah’s Witnesses say the same thing about what they believe. So I would like to know what method you use to find the truth.

Acts 17 .32 . The word assurance there is ' pistus' ( Faith )
Acts 17
32 And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked: and others said, we will hear thee again of this matter.

.................assurance/faith/pistus

What would be an example of deeper?
It means it must be more involved than just that. Something else must be involved

Who is their faith in and why?

is it in God, or is it in their own deeds?
