EXEGESIS, EISEGESIS AND "NARCIGESIS?" WHEN THE BIBLE BECOMES ABOUT YOU
When we force the Bible to mean that we are at the center of the story, and when we are taught that every teaching, every command and everything God asks His people to do becomes about our own personal faith journeys, that is what is known as narcissistic eisegesis,
Eisegesis (/ˌaɪsɪˈdʒiːsɪs/) is the process of interpreting text in such a way as to introduce one's own presuppositions, agendas or biases. It is commonly referred to as reading into the text.[1] It is often done to "prove" a pre-held point of concern, and to provide confirmation bias corresponding with the pre-held interpretation and any agendas supported by it.
I think also we can include the misappropriation of Jesus teachings and commands . This is done through not noticing that , yes all the bible is for us ,but not all is to us . I can see that this approach to scripture is where most of the errors occur . From replacement theology to a great many denominations like the Pentecostal variety. Where the book of Acts is taken out of context and is not noticed as a ' transitional ' book .
What are some of the examples you've noticed where some Christians mis apply verses not intended TO them ? Examples where verses are not meant for the Church age for example?
