It cant be a future city:
1 John 4:3 "but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world."
Lad eschatology has a few rules:
the little horn is one man. (End Times)
antichrist is one man. (End times)
beast means kingdoms like in Daniels visions of four beasts. (Last days)
the harlot is the vatican. (Last days through to the End times)
the little horn has to be a succession of men because he was active from Johns day right through to the return of Christ.
Dan 7:20–22 I was watching; and the same horn was making war against the saints, and prevailing against them, until the Ancient of Days came, and a judgment was made in favor of the saints of the Most High, and the time came for the saints to possess the kingdom.
As for the "simple minded" I have to respectfully disagree because here we see the beast is also one man:
Rev 13:18 This calls for wisdom. Let the person who has insight calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man.That number is 666.

Moshelijah, I believe what John meant was NOT that the antichrist was already there, but that there were 'foreshadowings' of the antichrist around, or as the bible says the 'spirit of the antichrist'... Just as there were types and foreshadowings of Jesus Christ before the real one came, so there are foreshadowings and types of the antichrist (which does include the papacy/pope/rome) in the world today before the real big antichrist comes.
To put this in perspective, the world trade center in america falling was a foreshadowing of the fall of babylon, but it hasnt happened yet.

i honestly do not know how anyone can read the passages in Revelation and not understand it is talking about Jerusalem.
