Do you boast how cheap you are?
I just wondered why people do this. Its a bit weird, like someone giving you a gift and saying its from an op shop for only $2 or worse, its like they stole it. Are you supposed to thank them for being so cheap?

I think sometimes people are so surprised at a great deal that they want to gush about it. I've found great deals and told friends/family so they can get that particular item as well, if they want.

I do feel a sort of pleasure at seeing my Safeway total go down, down, down when I buy the sales. I don't brag about it, though.

Brought my sister a special kind of Gelato that I love. It's usually $5/small container. When it's on sale for super cheap I buy extra and bring her some and I'll let her know, "Hey, I got a bunch because they're on sale. Thought you might like some!" We both appreciate deals and, of course, gelato/ice cream so neither one of us judges the other for the gift.

At any rate, yes. Say thank you and move on. Do you feel like they value you less because they brought you something that was on sale or "cheap"?

hmm I dont know sometimes I feel that way if its a gift for some strange reason. I would rather not know how much it cost.
if they just want to let me know they found a bargain so I could find one too I dont seem to mind. But I wouldnt tell someone their birthday present was cheap or I got it cheap.

It kinda seems like bragging but in reverse, like rich people might also brag how much they spend on something as well.

I agree it IS tacky to tell someone how much they spent on a birthday present. But what can you do? Just smile and nod, I guess. Maybe that's where some mercy comes into play.

hmm I wonder how they know how it makes someone feel though. Cos they might do this to everyone or it could be just me.

I mean surely its only good to know the price of something if you were going to buy it yourself, (or you especially asked) but if its a gift, its given freely, so does it really matter how much it cost? the value is in the giving.

I guess with a voucher or money given as a gift, you know exactly how much they spent without them saying anything lol

There is etiquEtte when giving gifts like ..remove the price tags or don't tell them how expensive or how cheap your gifts are...simple as that...giving a gift is voluntary that is why it is called a gift 😊 but I understand how you feel I have encountered people like that...and it is quite awkward to accept their gifts no matter how expensive the gifts are lol 😀

Yeah, and how do you tell someone, "That's rude/tacky" without making things...uncomfortable? I guess depending on the person, they might not be offended?

I dont know
I had a 'friend' who would keep giving me stuff that I know she didnt want and was just offloading on to me even when I would say no thanks she would ignore me make up elaborate ways for me to try and get me to pick it up from her.

this was cos she was given a gift that she didnt like and thought I would like it and Im like but I dont need anything like that really and she kept insisting but I felt rotten to always be the 'friend' to dump unwanted gifts on. it was like this empty box...it didnt even have flowers in it, she just didnt like the box. I said why not fill it with flowers and give it to someone in hospital just like the friend who gave it to you did for you?

oh the drama. Then she said oh will just donate it to the op shop. well why didnt she do that in first place lol

I wonder if it be hard to refuse expensive gifts for me.

I know some people who are like too proud and would say 'I dont need your charity' while others are like please bribe me. Whats in it for me? Do I get a present? What did ya buy me?

But see a gift is given and theres no obligation to pay someone back for it. So why even mention the price when you havent asked for it.

hmm still thinking on this one.
Or maybe should say 'you shouldnt have!'

I entered this bookathon to fundraise for blind and low vision families.

I know not to ask anything of those of my friends and family who either boast how cheap they are or complained about their finances. (they can give as much or as little as they like)

I suppose its a little test of how generous they are to ask them to give to someone less fortunate them themselves. What do you think?
