The brightness really refers to the Glory of The New Covenant
(Doxa - glory, splendour, brightness)

2 Corinthians 3:7 But if the ministration of death, written and engraven in stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not stedfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be done away:8 How shall not the ministration of the spirit be rather glorious?
...........................
14 But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which vail is done away in Christ.15 But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the vail is upon their heart.16 Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away.

No, because the other signs of The Day of the Lord, would not necessarily have begun right away. For example, we don't know how much of a gap there will be in between when the church is gathered until that antichrist makes his seven year covenant with Israel and God's wrath begins. So, if they were told that the day of the Lord had already come, then they would have been anticipating God's wrath to shortly begin. In other words, if you've entered into the Day of the Lord, then you've missed the gathering and wrath is to follow.
I guess I was just thinking of the "two grinding in the mill, one taken the other left," sort of. It isn't described as the rapture is going to be that subtle. But, who knows? It's all very mysterious.

(Obviously he doesn't literally nuke a temple - the brightness of his coming can even refer to his first coming. The proof and acceptance thereof).
I'm honestly not so sure there is no nuking going on when Jesus returns. Seems scriptures are consistent with the theme of sudden destruction upon the return of Christ.

Matthew 24:37-39
37But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
38For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,
39And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

2 Thessalonians 1:7-9
7And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, 8In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: 9Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;

2 Peter 3:10
10But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

The dragon hey.. Maybe a representation of the serpent of old..

Isaiah 27:
1 "In that day the LORD with his sore and great and strong sword shall punish leviathan the piercing serpent, even leviathan that crooked serpent; and he shall slay the dragon that is in the sea."

Revelation 12:
3 "And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads. {4} And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born. {5} And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne. {6} And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days. {7} And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, {8} And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. {9} And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him."
Some things are not about the Bible to help you understand the "dragon" in the Bible

The chinese dragon had nine sons and each of them was different from the others,
The fourth son stir up a fire and burn himself

the nine planets of the solar system before, now is eight

but the fourth planet is Mars
Mercury (☿), Venus( ♀)、 Earth (⊕), Mars( ♂)
Scientists say Mars has found evidence of massive nuclear explosions.
There is a high concentration of xenon 129 in the Martian atmosphere
Abundant uranium and thorium have been detected in many places on the surface of Mars, which is inconsistent with the composition of Martian rock samples analyzed by Mars probe.

I don't know the truth of the legend or the discovery of Mars,

It just seems to me that these things are related

Rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, Chinese dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, chicken, dog and pig
Twelve zodiac signs
Is it necessary for us to put snakes and Chinese dragons together?
One is "fictitious" and the other is real.
IF one is real and the other is real too.
The bible says the The ancient snake is the "dragon",
So is snake a snake ?
Or is the dragon the dragon ?
Yes is Yes,NO is NO
If you say too much, it comes from the evil one

True. But God will I believe judge a world which has been given the gospel and the chance to repent.
This seems to occur after the spirit of falsehood has been conquered. It happens at the time we least expect.

While the blood of lambs and heifers is pouring down the Temple Mount, everyone will be on tenterhooks expecting the Lord, but this is not when he comes.

Hi Runningman,

I don't think that you understood my post. The scripture states that "The Day of the Lord" will not come until the apostasy occurs and that man of lawlessness is revealed. In other words, the proof that the Day of the Lord is here would be the apostasy and the revealing of that man of lawlessness. I personally believe that the apostasy has been taking place, as I don't believe that it would bee something that would happen over night.

Gathering of the Church
The coming of our Lord and our being gathered to him

Followed by

The Day of the Lord (time of God's wrath)
apostasy and man of lawlessness revealed
The gathering happens at the second coming of our Lord.
ONE EVENT.
The First resurrection.
At the LAST/seventh trump.

Yes, well, anew, again - a further time.

The 2 seems to be a human inference though
An adult would manage to twist it out of its socket but a child would clearly understand what Jesus meant.

Which plain meaning? You are going round the houses in your accusations....spit it out
No need to be paranoid, I wasn't accusing anyone. As a matter of, you started the challenging game. I was only trying to honestly answer a question of yours in post #148.

Just make it easy to understand with pics.
I believe we are in a big trouble,
Because the basic trust between people is gone.
Trust God with people (although I do not as much as I should)

Is the trust between BELIEVERS gone?

Proverbs 6:16-19
[16]These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:
[17]A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,
[18]An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,
[19]A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

I am just dealing with your rather caustic remark Crossnote - you can take ownership of it !

I am trying to work out in what way you think I am twisting the plain meaning of Scripture, that is all.
Nothing 'paranoid', you were simply very accusatory, and I want to know what you are driving at.

Hello OrphanedRepublican,

I have contended with this issue for many years regarding the 'one taken' group being taught as referring to the gathering of the church. However, if we take a closer look at the scripture, the 'one taken' group is being compared to the unrighteous who were taken in the flood. Therefore, the comparison would be wicked to wicked. Just as it was in the days of Noah, where the flood came and took them all away, like wise there will be two men in the field, one will be taken and the other left. This is directly linked with the parable of the weeds in Matt.13 where at the end of the age, the angels will go throughout the earth and will 'first' gather the wicked where they will be killed and their spirits thrown into the furnace.

Did you see what I wrote earlier?

I would like your critique where I am missing it.

I split the reapers between rev 14:16 and rev 14: 17 , Jesus reaping 14:16 and death 14:17

I have a question about the millennial reign though. Who gets ruled and reigned over? ("Lesser" Christians [carnal, missing rewards] or rule over the remnant of the earth?

Then every (surviving) knee would bow and tongue confess Jesus is Lord, then the millennium begins

(It seems fair for those who gave up their life [martyrs] and giving up seeking what they would want to do and their own pleasure and instead, to suffer for righteousness sake and deny themselves, to lose their life to find it in Christ... it's a blessing of the Lord for them to take part in the first resurrection to live with Jesus as King and potentially to a thousand in a physical reality )

Ok, let's simply start over...

Your original question:
Just curious, is 'the second coming' actually a scriptural term?
John 14:3 ESV
[3] And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.

‘Again’ implies a 2nd time.

Or:

One is taken to a safe place
&
One is left in a very bad place - a place of imminent judgement

Ok, let's simply start over...

Your original question:
Sure - no worries

But it can imply more than a second time. It obviously depends on the Greek, but in English.

"Is this the last time you are coming to see us?"
"No, I'll be coming again' or 'Oh no, I'll be coming again'
Clearly in English 'again' is open-ended; it could mean many times.

I am just trying to see if firstly:
'first coming' and 'second coming' are actually scriptural terms.
I don't think they are.
This then leads to the question of how many times Jesus did in fact come to earth.
We know he spoke with Abraham for instance...
