Do you have courage to discipline, correct, and punish your children?

• Pro 13:24 -> “He who spares his rod hates his son, but he who loves him chastens him early.”

Today, many parents fear to amend their children because they long for their fondness, assistance in old age, etc. Nevertheless, the only thing that this makes is to solidify bad habits and arise insecurity in them with regard to the parents. After all, why do the parents wouldn’t teach the discipline and true ken to the children? One of two things:

1 – They aren’t sure of what is good or evil;

2 – They, don’t care for the well-being of the children:

• Pro 22:15 -> “Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.”
• Pro 23:13-14 -> “Do not withhold correction from a boy, for if you beat him with the rod, he will not die. You shall beat him with the rod, and shall deliver his soul from hell.”

The result can be seen below:

• Pro 29:15 -> “The rod and rebuke give wisdom, but *a boy sent off causes shame to his mother* .”

Therefore:

• Pro 29:17 -> “Correct your son, and he shall give you rest; yea, he shall give delight to your soul.”

However:

• Pro 19:18 -> *“Chasten your son while there is hope*, and do not set your soul on making him die.”

Correction and punishment don’t imply in repressing the creativity or the self-esteem of the child. On the contrary: it is a way to brake the evil impulses, a proof of love. In virtue of this:

• Pro 3:12 –> “for whom Jehovah loves He corrects, even as a father corrects the son in whom he delights.”

So, have a good day being in the life of your children what they need you to be. Jesus put them in your life so that you could lead them in the right path in His presence in order to be His instrument of light (Mat 5:14-16), love and grace.

Don’t fear bruise them. After all, if you don’t correct them with love, in a just measure and for the right reason (with the rod), they will be corrected by people of hard heart who only pine for their suffering and destruction (being hurt with clubs, guns, knives, etc.).

I’d love to give my son consistent correction. I do what I can. The problem I’ve had is a wife who like to jump ahead of my correction and do it her way without consulting me. Then we have different family members of hers who coddle my son during his misbehavior and tell us an excuse for my son of “it’s perfectly normal for his age” “he’s only 5” my correction keeps getting overruled and disregarded by others left and right. So I ask how am I supposed to give consistent correction to my son with this happening? As things are right now it seems to only confuse and frustrate him cause grandma lets him get away with this or that. But when he comes back to us I don’t even get a chance to correct cause my wife jumps and doesn’t let me lead. Any ideas?

I think the solution is for both parents to be present when discipling. In the movies, the mother usually says "Wait till your father gets home." I think both parents should be present so the child isn't able to manipulate. Perhaps your wife views your disciplining too harsh. If your son is doing something bad like lying, stealing or using bad language, I think both parents would be in agreement about discipline and your wife would not have room to say that it's normal. However, if he is only being unruly, maybe that's normal for a boy his age.

If she thinks im too harsh It never gets communicated to me. There are situations I think could be used as teachable moments she simply jumps down his throat about. She scolds, punishes but she rarely takes the time to follow through with teaching and instruction on what is correct which is odd to me cause her profession is school teacher 🤷‍♂️. There have been Several times when I’m in the middle of giving him simple behavior correction she will jump into the middle of it where I perceive it as interrupting and she will proceed to take control of the situation away from me at times even talking over me and cutting me off. Weather she intends to do it or not it’s absolutely how I perceive it. I’m working around it but it’s not easy.
