There are people in revivals and moves of God.
ANYTIME thousands or even hundreds of people are involved, you will ALWAYS see genuine and " fakers"
The apostles saw fakes.

Anytime there is a move of God the devil will ALWAYS BE THERE.

I have personally witnessed that.
The revivals of the 1800's must have been WOW because that is the time frame major cults got started.

There were also manifestations during the First Great Awakening of the 1730s and 1740s. The "prophets" and "apostles" of the New Apostolic Reformation (NAR) are quick to draw on Jonathan Edwards since many of these manifestations occurred at his revivals. However, Edwards denounced them and even says they were a major reason for the revival's demise.

Here are a couple of quotes from Hank Hanegraaff's Counterfeit Revival. They show how the NAR tries to revise history using Jonathan Edwards.

"One of the most brazen examples of historical revisionism comes from the lips of [John] Arnott. At an international pastors’ conference, Arnott tried to dupe devotees by denouncing the theology of John Calvin while in the same breath affirming the theology of Jonathan Edwards. Arnott was attempting to refute 'cessationists,' whom he believes were 'shutting down the Holy Spirit' by questioning the practice of 'acting like lions and oxen and eagles and even warriors.' His basic argument was that since 'God himself has no hesitation of comparing himself to an animal,' we shouldn’t either. Thus, according to Arnott, Calvinists and cessationists would be 'far better advised to refer to Jonathan Edwards and his theology on discernment.' " (John Arnott, Pastors' Meeting, Toronto Airport Vineyard, 19 October 1994, audiotape)

I guess Arnott forgot to mention that later in life Edwards himself became a Calvanist and cessationist.

"The most disturbing deception of all is that the leaders of the Counterfeit Revival have coopted one of the church's true spiritual giants and dishonestly claimed him as their own. In the words of [William] DeArteaga, 'The Lord has already chosen the predominant theologian of this revival. It's not me! It's Jonathan Edwards.' " (William DeArteaga, "What is Heresy?" Toronto Airport Vineyard, 13 October 1994, audiotape)
Here's what Edwards says:

"If we look back into the history of the church of God in past ages, we may observe that it has been a common device of the devil, to overset a revival of religion; when he finds he can keep men quiet and secure no longer, then he drives them to excesses and extravagances. He holds them back as long as he can; but when he can do it no longer, then he will push them on, and, if possible, run them upon their heads. And it has been by this means chiefly that he has been successful, in several instances, to overthrow most hopeful and promising beginnings. Yea, the principle means by which the devil was successful, by degrees, to overset the grand religious revival of the world, in the primitive ages of Christianity, and in a manner to overthrow the Christian church throughout the earth, and make way for the great Anti-Christian apostasy , that masterpiece of all the devil's works, was to improve the indiscreet zeal of Christians, to drive them into those three extremes of enthusiasm, superstition, and severity toward opposers; which should be enough for an everlasting warning to the Christian church. (Edwards, Works of Jonathan Edwards, vol. 1, 397-398, emphasis in original)

This all goes to show the character of some of the leaders of the NAR. I won't call them liars but I'll let their own words speak for them. How can a person take people like this seriously?

Something from the Edwards quote really stands out to me. He says the way the devil paves the way for "Anti-Christian apostasy" is to increase "the indiscreet zeal of Christians." I believe the Counterfeit Revival today is bringing in its wake the end time anti-Christian apostasy.

Something else that strikes me is "severity toward opposers." In charismatic and NAR circles you constantly hear, "you must not touch God's anointed," with warnings of dire consequences. In another thread, "Is it too late?" I posted a video clip that switches between Francis Chan and Benny Hinn making veiled and not so veiled threats on the lives of those who would dare speak against Gods' "anointed." See here: https://christianchat.com/threads/is-it-too-late.200271/post-4605075.

The similarities between what Edwards said all those years ago and what's happening today are sobering.

Is it true that Jonathan Edwards owned slaves? Did he teach them the Bible? that would be great. I hope he brought them to Jesus. What did he teach concerning sinners and the nature or person of God? What did he teach about sanctification?
Why was he fired from church?

The Holy Spirit is completely compatible with the human body. He will not force anyone into strange dancing, writhing, convulsions or any other bizarre bodily acts.
Tell me Aaron, have you been in any meeting where the Holy Spirit has been present and as a result people have fallen under his power because the Holy Spiirty has been irresistible?

Paul said let everything be done decently and in order

that, should be enough, should be, mind you, to allow some discernment to kick in, but obviously not everyone has the ears and eyes to understand that

the devil will manifest as much as a person allows...whole ministries in fact...and God, God who is merciful, just and all knowing among other things, will allow it

not getting involved in the it is God/it is the devil debate. I lived it. thank you. I'm out
The passage in 1 Corinthians 14 about things being done decently and in order is about prophecy and tongues. Not about a persons physical actions.

Your comment is totally illogical.
How so? If someone is insisting God must heal a person , how would this not be demanding one’s own way in prayer? It’s one thing to believe God will heal a person. That’s different.

Explanation and Commentary on 1 Corinthians 14:40
Act in a way that is decent, rational and composed so that you do not dishonor God during your worship.

Paul concludes 1 Corinthians 14 with this general rule. It is part of a passage that runs from verse 36 to 40, where Paul is rebuking the Corinthians for their extreme pride in having spiritual gifts and their childish behavior in the congregation. The Corinthians were so self-absorbed that they behaved in some sort of uncontrolled manner that was different than other churches. The Bible does not tell us exactly what they did, only that it was a misuse of their spiritual gifts and disgraceful to God.

Paul gave the Corinthians this simple rule to follow to guide their actions in matters related to their worship of God. This included such things as the customs they would follow and how they would act so that they could properly glorify God and be an example for non-Christians in order to convert unbelievers.

1 Corinthians 14:32
Expanded Bible
32 The spirits of prophets are ·under the control of [subject to] the prophets themselves [C unlike in pagan religions, where a spirit would seize control of a speaker, causing frenzy, mania or ecstasy].

We know from Scripture and Early Church History that the Holy Spirit has not been irresistible because God is not the author of Chaos.

The irresistible thing is a characteristic of pagan religions back then. Today, likely people in church are working out of their flesh in those cases.

Actually the scripture says that blasphemy is to call a work of the Holy Spirit the work of satan.
Calling the work of satan a work of the Holy Spirit sounds like pretty dangerous ground to me, as well.

The Holy Spirit works orderly and proper like. Since, what I have seen in those services is out of order. It is simply people working out of their flesh.

He did own slaves, made an effort to bring them to Christ. In his wife's will was a provision to care for them financially.
They were treated like family and employees. He was against cruelty of the slave trade.

As for being fired it is discussed here: https://www.newenglandhistoricalsociety.com/jonathan-edwards-loses-his-pulpit-over-bad-books/
Basically, he set what was viewed by the elders as unfair rules and for church discipline of young men circulating a form of porn.

His views on the trinity were suspect due to mixing modern philosophical idealism in with theology.

From the context it does relate to physical actions. Each speaker of tongues and prophecy is told to take turns --- that is a physical activity that is regulated in I Corinthians.

It turns out from Mark we learn that blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is claiming that Jesus was demon possessed.
Basically calling the Holy Spirit a demon.

Mark 3:28-30

Easy-to-Read Version

28 “I want you to know that people can be forgiven for all the sinful things they do. They can even be forgiven for the bad things they say against God. 29 But anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven. They will always be guilty of that sin.”
30 Jesus said this because the teachers of the law had accused him of having an evil spirit inside him.

LOL!

I've read enough of your opinions to disregard your input. I don't think you know what context is

of course it relates to physical actions. I can hardly believe you think I said otherwise. you simply believe you have to correct every person in this forum.

the Corinthian church was in need of correction..much like the church we see today.

just so

instead of reproval, we have ever expanding shenanigans because the Bible is just too restrictive and just like in the Garden, people are going 'did God really say that?' YES HE DID AND FOR GOOD REASON

the flip side of that, calling the work of the Holy Spirit satanic, is blasphemy and appears to be the unforgivable sin.
