It's not our problem? Just ditch the treaties we have with them? And what about our chip manufacturing? Good bye cars, appliances and computers.
Get real, if China attacks Taiwan China will lose. It is that simple. China struggles to get food from the farm to the city during the harvest, they have to use their military to help harvest the crops and take over the railroad. Taiwan has people in place that can sabotage the railway causing chaos in China. One missile blowing up the 3 Gorges dam will wipe out the Yangtze river basin the industrial base of China with 500 million people. That would be a massive blow to their economy and cripple their power grid. Once again Taiwan has people in place who will cause power outages throughout the country.
But consider this, they have had terrible harvests this year and last. They have to import food from the US, Australia and Canada. If they go to war with Taiwan there will be embargoes. Australia and Japan have already pledged to help and see this as self defense. Japan has one of the most modern navies in the world, it may not be as big as China's but it is modern and coupled with the US and Australia and Taiwan more than enough to repel an invasion.
As for Taiwan it is a mountainous tropical island that has spent 50 years digging in to make it impregnable. All the people on the island have gone through several years of military training and so the entire island can be mobilized. This is worse than Vietnam because they are much better equipped, much better trained, and highly motivated. Remember the Falkland Islands, Taiwan can impose massive losses on China by sinking ships and stopping them on the beaches.
