This comes from the american sports basketball, which is so very boring to watch, but so very fun to play. I played in an all white team in a hawaii league, and the taller ones of us could not really jump, apart from the skijumper. The smallest one could jump high. So seems true so far. But what about skijumpers, all the best there are whites. And we also see the same in the olympics, there are some white people who can jump high and far. Seems like the langjump is dominated by jamaicans, and other from lower altitude places. But in high jump there seems to a lot of russians and other eatern european countries being the best. So this seems to be a myth, or at least narrowed to, "really tall white men cannot jump". Which is true in basket here, nobody ever dunkas here, so the sport has no chance of taking off. Perhaps we should lower the nets. Or is it an altitude and cold thing? Because where I played basketball, it was like 1 000 meter over the ocean. And we practiced during winter, not in the summer.

To tourist who thought it was informative. Hawaii league means a lowest level league, just playing for fun. We made a team because we liked playing basketball, to get to practice in the public venue once a week, or possibly twice, long time ago. the team lasted one year, bottom half of the lowest league in our district. Did not play any games, just wanted to play. Hawaii league is a term for playing sports for fun, not competitive. Just some hillbillies being lead by a son of snoop dog, who weirdly enough was the whitest of us all.

Two men won gold medals for the high jump in Tokyo this year, and here they are  And here is their interesting story, the story of two close friends (both on and off the track) if you missed it.

Why were there two gold medals in Olympic high jump and was there a silver medal in Tokyo? (the-sun.com)

Missed it, I find the olympics boring, apart from the 100 meter dash men, the 100, 200 meter, and 400 meter women, and jumping over this, and over that for ladies. So kind of a woman issue.

The earliest I've ever heard the term is 1992. Nearly 30 years ago. Popularized by the movie of the same name. The term always seems to be related to basketball and not meant as a generalized statement. At least I've not seen it any other way.
I don't need to "plat" to be aware of this old term that was popularized when I was a teen.

And since only one person has come here to discuss this "hot topic" it's not, as I said, such a hot topic. And even with that one person you ignored the topic yourself, choosing rather to talk about your dislike for the Olympics. You couldn't even keep on your own "hot topic" for one post.

Plat is not a word, obvious typo for play. As in play basketball. And yes, it came with that movie. It was a fun movie, as was obove the rime with tupac. And thje first responder did not opine about it being true or not. Just posted some bibleverses and that one white/black shared a goldmedal in high jump. I asked for opinions. You have not opined on it being true or a myth. Or if it is just true for an american sport. General for athletes, or just in the sport basketball.

I thought it was just a challenge to see if they can?

Of course they can as can others. You dont need to pay any attention to rap that dont make no sense to you.

wasnt former President Obamas slogan 'Yes we can'
Maybe it was after all the times black people were being told 'No you cant' . Like no you cant vote, you cant go to toilet here, you cant get a good job, you cant live here etc

sometimes rap can be ironic, tho the meaning is lost on most people.

If I recall Obama was a former basketball player in as well. From Hawaii.

I dont really know, tall people are usually basketball players and obviously dont need to jump as high as shorter people do to make the shots. Dont think it has anything to do with colour, tho its kinda weird to have a team designated as all one colour. Do they still do that in the US?!

In NZ we have ALL BLACKS rugby team but thats just the colour of the jersey, not the rugby players skins!

Been a long time since I was a little wannabeballplayingwhitey who could not jump high at all. And watched the movie. But as I recall, the movie was about hustling people at the hoops in basketparks, by acting all white and clumsy to get wagers going, then turning into michael Jordan at the right time, when the bet was right to make a score. Then a black and white guy found out they could do the scam together to make a bigger score. Not sure.

I am not american, scandinavian, just making an observation. Cannot remember why, may be started because of the olympics. Seems to me, that this thing about jumping long is totally dominated by people who originated from the equatarial line cross the globe. Apart from a few anomalies, like say scandinavia that for some reason have been disproportionally represented in the high jump. You know, running up and jumping over a stick laid in some poles with the back first. But they seem to have been really good because they were very tall and slender, and their trick is that they have been good at dieting, so not much mass had to be jumped into the air. And having real long lowerbody and not very long upperbody. This is not the case in Basket. They tend to be long all over, or often having longerr upperbody, and be good in basket because of that. Noticed the same observation.

well different athletes have particular body shapes for their sport I supoose

you dont really need to be able to jump much in basket ball compared with volleyball or high jump or long jump.
Also gravity may play apart. Taller on average people tend to live in higher altitudes. Shorter near equator and low places.
No really something that ever bothered me really. People come in all shapes and sizes.

Thick skin, no issue. But seemed like you tried to offend in the serious thread about crosses, where you kind of emulated me. Bit weird to go through a persons past comments and dig through it all, to emulate him, and try to mock him, if you do not intend to offend. Just saying. Are you a cyberstalker? Must I choose between serious and fun? Can I not do threads on both?
