The true roots of atheism are spelled out clearly in the Bible. It has nothing to do with science or reason or rationality.

It has everything to do with wicked sinful people suppressing the truth of God because of their own wickedness.

Atheists claim to be wise, but the Bible says they've became fools, because they exchanged the glory of God and the truth of God for a lie.

Romans 1

18 The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, 19 since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. 20 For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.
21 For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles.

24 Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. 25 They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.

26 Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. 27 In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.

28 Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done. 29 They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, 30 slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; 31 they have no understanding, no fidelity, no love, no mercy. 32 Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.

oh here are a few more Bible verses on the subject.

Job 21:13-20
New King James Version (NKJV)
13 They spend their days in wealth,
And in a moment go down to the grave.[a]

14 Yet they say to God, ‘Depart from us,
For we do not desire the knowledge of Your ways.

15 Who is the Almighty, that we should serve Him?
And what profit do we have if we pray to Him?
’

16 Indeed their prosperity is not in their hand;
The counsel of the wicked is far from me.

17 “How often is the lamp of the wicked put out?
How often does their destruction come upon them,
The sorrows God distributes in His anger?

18 They are like straw before the wind,
And like chaff that a storm carries away

Unwarranted confidence in human ability is a product of fallen human nature ... God's grace in Christ is not merely necessary but is the sole efficient cause of salvation. We confess that human beings are born spiritually dead and are incapable even of cooperating with regenerating grace. We reaffirm that in salvation we are rescued from God's wrath by his grace alone. It is the supernatural work of the Holy Spirit that brings us to Christ by releasing us from our bondage to sin and raising us from spiritual death to spiritual life. We deny that salvation is in any sense a human work. Human methods, techniques or strategies by themselves cannot accomplish this transformation. Faith is not produced by our unregenerated human nature. - Cambridge Declaration

Oh us wicked atheist. We do nothing all day but live our hedonistic lives to our hearts content.

You folks have no idea about atheist. Most are very nice people that live their entire lives never hurting anyone. But you think we have turned from god so that we can live a sin filled life. When in reality we are some of the nicest folks you will ever meet.

We are extremely under represented in prisons. And the most atheistic countries in the world have the lowest crime. And lowest murder rates.
We atheist tend to have higher I.Q.s and are just as generous as the religious folks. We tend to get involved with community projects and relief efforts just as much as everyone else.

You folks got us all wrong.

Atheists, may do some good and live peaceful lives, but regardless, they are sinners, engaged in some level of sin, and their rejection of God is rooted in their wickedness that wants to rebel against God and suppress what any rational mind can see concerning God. That being that he does exist.

I can't rebel against something that doesn't exist.
Our definitions of what is rational are very different.

This is sad, and it saddens me, and were I a Christian, it would sadden me even more, to hear people of my faith speak such bigotry. This is intolerance of anyone who does not believe in your god, this is offensive and ridiculous. Other than the Bible, what evidence do you have that we are wicked people? What can you use to support these claims other than quoting your scripture? That's all I ask, because it seems as though the ONLY reason you have to make these hateful claims about millions of people is in ancient texts... If these passages are true of modern atheists, then how come we aren't "filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed, depravity, envy, murder, strife, deceit, and malice."? How can you justify saying we have no love or mercy?

From a Biblical standpoint, it seems as if it's talking about a specific group of people, people who practiced idolatry, as in verse 23. I'm guessing this was an ancient group of non-Christians the writer is speaking of. Surely you cannot apply these words to say, me, or any other atheist, in the modern day, thousands of years later?

Actually, I expected quite a bit better than this. See I expect the same of first world, modern Christians that I expect out of anyone else, because I see them as equal, not inferior nor superior. I have Christian friends and a Christian boyfriend, and I expect them to treat me with respect, the same way I treat them. Are you saying that we SHOULD expect Christians to be ignorant and insulting? However what we've encountered here is hatred and bigotry, an absolute slander of anyone who does not believe as you do. Were I still a Christian I would be ashamed of your words Still Waters, they're the kinds of things that Christians talk about when they say that not all Christians act like Jesus.

It's OK though, I won't judge the Christians around you based on what you've said. I find most of them to be decent people, and my encounters with the ones who would call me wicked, evil, depraved, envious, murderous, deceitful, and malevolent for no other reason than me not believing what they believe have been confined to a few, particularly extreme examples.

No this is what the living word of God says. This is a claim of our faith. It is not bigotry or intolerant or mean. It IS the word of God.

Atheists toss around all these claims of bigotry and intolerance as a means to quiet down the truth we speak. Listen. You signed up for a Christian site. You opened a thread on this topic. You've willingly walked in to this yourself. You knew what you were getting yourself in to when you signed up.

You aren't going to put me or any Christian on this site back on our heels, back in defensive posture, making us think we can't speak the very word of God on Christian site.

None of this is bigoted. This IS the word of God that has been quoted in the initial post of this thread.

Again, more atheist nonsense to prevent us from preaching the very word of God. The very word of God says people out of their wickedness suppress the truth of God.

This isn't bigoted or insulting. It's the word of God.

To all atheists, you're just not getting it, if we as christians didn't serve Yeshua(Jesus) and want to help anyone lost come to God, than we wouldn't care about what happens to you after death. You're lack of belief in God does not make Him exist any less. There's more proof and evidence of God's existence than your own. The fact that almost everything that was written 2000/3000 yrs. ago in detail about the end days is being fulfilled right before our eyes. The fact that the old testament prophecied about Yeshua in detail from how He would be born to His death and ressurection, happened exactly like it said it would. The fact that a little country(Israel) that in worlds eyes is unimportant has been the center of attention for the last 4500 yrs. every prophecy about it so far has come to past. I can go on and on and on, historical evidence, geological evidence, archeological evidence as well as biblical evidence. The fact that NASA and scientist use the Bible more than any other book in the world to find things all through out the middle east, because it's more accurate than anything else. You can say whatever you want to justify your life, the fact of it is, is if you refuse God and refuse His Son as Messiah, it doesn't matter if you're the nicest person on the planet, you're going to hell, period. YOU WILL stand before God and kneel and proclaim that Jesus is Lord whether you want to or not. Your beliefs are irrelevent to the facts. The difference between us and the false religions out there, is we want you to be saved so that you can live in eternity with us with God and all the glory and greatness and reward that He wants to give us just because He loves us. JUST BECAUSE HE LOVES YOU, and so He sent His Son to die for your sins, because He loves you. But He does not compromise, it is HIS way NOT your way. You don't get to set the rules, He sets the rules, you will obey or you will pay the price. So I plead with you, God only has to pull on your heart one time, that's all He's required to do according to His word. If He pulls on it more than once than that is extra mercy He's having on you. PLEASE DON'T REJECT HIM, or He may release you to a heardened heart. Shalom

If that is truly the words of a deity then the deity is bigoted and hate filled. Nice people don't talk like that.

Sorry, you're not going to put me back on my heels because I simply quote the word of God. It doesn't work that way. It's not hatred, or bigotry or slander to state the very word of God!

That's what Christians do on a Christian site. We quote the word of God. If you view quoting the word of God as bigotry or hatred or slanderous, then I wonder why you signed up for a Christian site in the first place!

No one is holding a gun to your head as you willingly sign on to a Christian site where Christians quote the word of God. No one is forcing you to open threads where the word of God is being quoted and explained.

SO please, don't go getting all offended and start calling people bigots, on a Christian site, just because they happen to quote and explain the very word of God.

Hey no one forced you to sign up buddy and hear all this stuff you call 'hate'. You're the one willingly signing up and logging in and clicking on these thread links. Don't get mad over it. Christians quote the Bible. This is a Christian site.

I think this topic really highlights one of the main problems people face. The association that Atheists are wicked, that they are immoral. based on the sole fact that they do not have the same belief is extremely ignorant. It is also baseless.

Van you explain why you make this assumption, why am I wicked, ?

Avinu. - You are lying to yourself if your think NASA and scientist use the bible due to it's accuracy. Go to any science publication and see how often they mention the bible. You will find that they will mention the works of Newton, Einstein, and Darwin more than they will the bible.

Because the bible says that wicked people clearly suppress the truth of God because of their wickedness.

It's in the Bible. I quoted it in the initial post.

Those are the reasons.

This is what Christians do on a Christian site. We quote Bible verses and expound on it.

nope, incorrect...atheism is something current which began with a psychologist (forgot his name). the bible never speaks of atheism, it was madness back in those days to say there isn't any God, everyone believed in a supreme deity....thing is i went around asking atheist why they became atheist, and something that always came up was a bad experience with a christian in there childhood, and they decided to just reject God...A theory is that atheist are here because are actions have caused it
