None of this is bigoted. This IS the word of God that has been quoted in the initial post of this thread.
This reasoning is frightening. Let's put your exact logic into a few other perspectives, alright? These actions are all real examples.
The world : Flying airplanes into the Word Trade Center, performing suicide bombings, and beating little girls because they were caught trying to read is hateful, intolerant, mean, and violent!
Extremist Muslim : It was an action of our faith, it was the word of GOD which told us to do so. *quotes Quaran to prove what he's doing is right*
The world : Sentencing all homosexuals to death, and murdering them in mobs is bigoted, violent, hateful, and mean!
Ugandan Christian : It is what GOD has told us to do, it is not bigotry or intolerance, it IS the word of GOD! *quotes Bible to prove what he's doing is right*
The world : Bullying and hating that gay 15 year old boy so intensely that he killed himself in misery, was bigoted, intolerant, and mean!
Town of rednecks : It is the word of GOD. We only told the boy the truth about what a horrible, evil, despicable, abomination of an animal he was, repeatedly, every day. We're just preaching the word of GOD. *quotes Leviticus*
Me : How can you abandon me? I've done nothing wrong to you, when have I tried to hurt you?
My parents : You are wicked and evil, we cannot allow you in our home, we cannot trust you, for you reject god. This is not bigoted, hateful, or intolerant, this is what the word of GOD says!
See why this is scary? What god says is different for everyone, but every single person is SURE that they're right. And they're willing to do terrible things because of it.
Of course I could never feel torn apart inside because of the examples I've listed above, as the Bible says I'm too much of an evil, wicked atheist with no mercy or love. There's no way the deaths of innocents and the abuse of children could sicken me, and bring me to tears, for the Bible has decided that I have no empathy, that I care for no one, that mercy and love aren't in my vocabulary. I don't think you realize how much love most atheists have for all the women oppressed by Islam, all the gays lynched in Uganda, and driven to suicide in the US, we love them, I love them, I want so desperately for them to be free of what they're facing because people think that they are divinely justified/commanded to hurt and hate others... Yet you call us wicked, murderous, and a whole slew of nasty words based on nothing more than scripture.
Atheists toss around all these claims of bigotry and intolerance as a means to quiet down the truth we speak. Listen. You signed up for a Christian site. You opened a thread on this topic. You've willingly walked in to this yourself. You knew what you were getting yourself in to when you signed up.
You aren't going to put me or any Christian on this site back on our heels, back in defensive posture, making us think we can't speak the very word of God on Christian site.
Again, more atheist nonsense to prevent us from preaching the very word of God. The very word of God says people out of their wickedness suppress the truth of God.
I don't want to silence you, I support your freedom to express yourself, and say what you say. But I also believe it is my freedom to respond with how I honestly think and feel regarding it. I don't wish to force you or make it so you "can't" say this stuff, but I am hoping to maybe convince you that what you're doing is bigoted and hateful, or instead convince others who may be reading... Once again, I do not wish for your freedom to say these things to be taken away, not AT ALL.
