I'm a political science student and I'm interning with the Democratic Party soon, as well as volunteering for the Obama 2012 campaign, as well as several congressional campaigns, and the Florida PIRG (a group that promotes voter turnout, political interaction and bi-partisan work to save the environment.) It's legit :D

If you don't vote you have no right to complain about who gets elected My Grandfather used to say. At the primary in my polling precinct 650 reg voters only 120 showed up

Are you a true centrist? (Because that would make you very left of Obama),

Or a centrist that just moves with the whole spectrum. Ie. How everyone has lurched to the right in last decade, does your centralism move too?

"Or a centrist that just moves with the whole spectrum. Ie. How everyone has lurched to the right in last decade, does your centralism move too?" @ David

Centrism is also tricky because to be a true centrist world opinion would need to be analyzed and then it would be based off of that. So using the word centristjust by using American opinion would not technically be accurate. Opinions in Europe and the Middle East would also have to play a factor, which actually could make centrismmore to the right than a liberal like me and you are would be comfortable with. That's how I would answer your question.

But I completely agree with you with the jump to the right if only American opinion is taken into account. All of the sudden Social Security and Medicare are under attack by the Tea Party and anything left of the Tea Party is a communist/socialist/muslim idea (All put together by our friend Glenn Beck!). The United States even conducted torture, which is amazing given that it is 2011 now and the United States is supposed to be "civilized". Now there is a "debate" about "enhanced interrogation". Sounds Orwellian to me!

Sooner, I just think it's the age old struggle between freedom loving citizens and the far right conservative rich rulers. 9/11 was used to make everyone scared by politicians who are little more than cowards. It's a PR campaign to spread cowardice. Hence the massive lurch to the right. Then once that happens, you have all the Nazi like regime stuff coming out. Psycopathy, torture, war & conservatism are always in bed together.
