I just googled that......
she's not kidding.
I wonder if any of our true real life coffee fanatics here were aware of this and able to get their free fix today.
ROFL...
I've invested money in coffee futures...they were down today BUT there's reports that Brazil isn't going to produce like they did last year...down over 50%. (they have had a patch of really bad weather)

So coffee is going to get really expensive this next year.

Well,
I know we have our fun joking about it here in SYM......
but it might be a wake up call ( play on words wasn't intended, but hey, it works)
for some people.

Green Coffee is currently around 50% higher in price than normal...and going up even higher. It's going to settle around double the price by the time all is said and done.
(I've been making money off my investments )
But relax...there's always next year when coffee will get reasonable again. (Maybe)

Currently the two largest producers of coffee have severe issues... Vietnam went back into quarantine with martial law and closed ports...but they didn't have any shipping containers either and it's going to be a while before they get any.
Brazil actually had frost in the coffee growing areas and drought at the same time. (It's in a jungle/rainforest) so all the coffee trees lost their leaves and aren't producing. Columbia is one step away from total political and civil chaos...they actually had the streets blocked to the harbor to keep from selling the coffee. (They are still upset)

Things are rough and not getting better for a while for coffee.

Just chill out and relax with a nice cup of tea. Its an art.

You can grow your own tea its not like you even have to get it imported from another country

There are a huge variety of teas...
Most of them are not worthy of being drunk.

However there are a few... some of them have huge amounts of caffeine.

But we don't have most of those varieties available in the US.

I somehow feel that you aren't exactly making coffee for some reason....
But if the "spirit" is willing....and don't forget the angel's share.

The best they can hope for is some form of Robusta coffee... Arabicas is relegated to tropical rainforest climates...and California doesn't have the water.
Coffee trees require 5 years to produce and is an extremely labor intensive product. Otherwise you end up with no bean and all cherry. And unripe or rotten cherries make for bad coffee.
Every cherry is hand picked because they don't ripen consistently on the trees. The longer they take to ripen the better the coffee.

Then there's the whole processing of the beans at the center... again more labor intensive work with getting the "paper" off and drying. All done by hand.
Currently green Robusta coffee is selling for a little over $2,083 for 10 metric tonnes of beans. (Unroasted coffee is called green)

Roasted coffee can get really expensive...up to $12-24/lb and even $50/lb if it's special. (And considering the heavy competition it needs to be)

There's a good reason that coffee is a second class nation job...lots of work and very little to show for it. I don't see Californians able to survive on those kinds of wages.

Well, they have a never ending flow of low wage laborers from those second class Nations showing up every day, so, maybe? Didn't hear what kind of coffee they were trying to grow though..... I'll stick with my Medium Maxwell House. Caffeinated and reasonably cheep.

“Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee.”
Psalms 63:3 (KJV)

Hebrews 13:15 - By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.

Psalms 99:3 - Let them praise thy great and terrible name; for it is holy.

Psalms 109:30 - I will greatly praise the LORD with my mouth; yea, I will praise him among the multitude.

Psalms 106:1 - Praise ye the LORD. O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.
