Once upon a time, in Germany, lived a little girl and her sister. One day they were taken away from their home. She and her sister were separated and put into foster homes. They were made to work very hard and the people weren’t very nice. Eventually the girls were reunited with family.
As the years passed the little girl became a young woman. She met an American man that was on duty for the US Military. They fell in love and she decided to leave Germany and everything she knew to be with and marry him. He became an alcoholic. Life was very hard. They had 6 children, 4 boys and 2 girls. They were fairly poor but made it by. They survived mostly off of wild game and growing a garden.
She didn’t get to talk to or see her family in Germany very often. She received news of her sister passing of breast cancer. She didn’t have much family left in Germany anymore.
Eventually all her children grew up and went their own way. One day she received news no mother would want to hear. One of her youngest sons had accidentally shot himself. Time nor all the tears in the world could take her pain away. With God’s grace she kept moving forward.
At the end of 2018 she and her husband got very sick. He died from pneumonia and she got well. Her heart ached despite all the pain she suffered in her marriage.
As the months went by she started having some complications. She went to the doctor and was diagnosed with an aggressive bladder cancer… it makes you wonder how much more fight does this woman have left in her. She went through all the treatments with her two daughters by her side the whole step of the way. Saturday Oct 23 2021 she gets a call from the doctor. No more tumors she is now in remission. She will be 80 Dec 25.
This woman is a survivor, a warrior, she is my Oma. She is graceful, soft spoken, caring, generous, and brave. Beautiful on the inside out.
I share this story to tell those who feel hopeless, there is hope. They’re blessings you can’t see while blinded by pain. You see God blessed this amazing woman with courage and strength. She was blessed with children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She is loved so much by so many. He answered our prayers and got her through cancer treatments.
Praise God for getting her through so much!
