Don't you have a phone? Surely you've had opportunities to make videos of the things you've seen. Why don't you upload some of them so we can all see them.

Is there anyone with a phone who had the presence of mind to video a miracle as it was taking place? I mean with all the miracles and all the phones out there you'd think there'd be at least a few videos.

So your God doesn't work miracles for you? Actually God didn't tell me when He was going to work miracles for me.

Quakers say you must follow your inner light; but they can't agree on what it is or who has it. Some say born-again Christians have it; some say it's in everyone, a form of Universalism; some say both. Quakers spend a tremendous amount of time trying to tap into their inner light. This is just repackaged New Age metaphysics. Be that as it may, Christians don't follow their "inner light." They follow the Holy Spirit and God's word. God's word is only secondary to most Quakers; the inner light is foremost. They practice a form of postmodernism: that is, the scriptures don't have just one meaning but can mean anything to anyone.

The Quakers were one of the first groups to permit women to preach and teach; in fact they encourage it. Pentecostals do the same thing, ignoring God's word for the sake of their traditions.

Faith, hope and love are supernatural gifts that continue 😃

And love requires revelation to see what our Father is doing. This is how Jesus loved and He set the same standard for us: that we love one another as He loves us.

This thread is regarding the doctrine of cessationism. It has been covered before, but I thought it was necessary to have a seperate thread for this.

There are common statements made regarding cessationism that I thought I'd like to address:

1- 'You are limiting/denying the power of the Holy Spirit.'

Generally, a cessationist still believes -- according to scripture---the Holy Spirit empowers, directs, guides, rebukes, encourages, is fully God, can be hurt and grieves, is personal, seals a believer, dwells in the midst of a local church in their various functions, and more.

They also generally believe-- according to scripture-- faith, hope and love are spiritual gifts that remain. Some also have partial cessationism with ministry gifts remaining, which altho I believe have also passed... I don't have much of an issue with if people are into these, since they are very similar to being God given talented at something.

The main thing though is the perfect thing, or that which is perfect.. causes the gifts to have been completed and finished. If this is the closed canon, with the death of the apostles and destruction of the temple.. then it isn't limiting or denying the Holy Spirit's power.

It is honouring that God has chosen to finish something He wanted for a time and completed it.


2- 'We have knowledge now, so the gifts can't have ceased.'

This one should be obvious, because the context of the spiritual gifts in 1 Corinthians 12-14 is the supernatural gift of knowledge. This is not general knowledge.. it's supernaturally empowered, special, exceptional. So we still have general knowledge now of course.

3- 'The gifts are not being readily shown now because of a lack of faith'

The fact is most churches actually are not cessationists and believe in following all the gifts. Cessationists are not the majority. So not enough faith is not linked to the gifts not being shown.

The other part of this--in scripture-- is when God was using the gifts through people, it wasn't always about the level of their faith. It was God working, objectively, through people with these gifts. Many demonstrations of power and signs to show His work through His people to accomplish particular purposes. When they operated in the gifts-- they just DID IT! Because it was God doing it!

I think there are more things people bring up.. it would be good to know more.

My position is comparing what is being passed off as spiritual gifts today with them in early churchHistory, Theology and Scriptures.

Often gifts of Prophecy and Speaking in unknown human languages are faked due to emotional influence. On many times when visiting a pentecostal or charismatic congregation. People who do not speak Hebrew have claimed that they heard Hebrew. I point out to them that Hebrew was my first language and not a word of Hebrew or any of its related languages were spoken. In fact, all that was spoken was sounds from their native languages, often English and Spanish, rarely French like in Quebec Canada. As for prophecy, while visiting on Missionary week, there was weak interpretations of support our missionaries. Never have I heard anything that resembles real prophecy. In some movements they claim one can give prophecies that do not come true and that is acceptable. True prophets do not ask for money and they are always 100 percent correct in everything they say. Events and Teachings like this tells me it is just a big game show going on. Nothing in those congregations were of God. I have visited hundreds of such churches in many countries.

Yes, I have known Spanish Speakers and took it in Elementary School. I do not speak it today, but I know what it sounds like.

Researchers have played tapes to those who claim to have the gift of interpretation of sermons in different languages, even shopping lists. None of those people have ever come close to the correct interpretation.

Yes on the home church!... And NO on the skinny jeans--my personal belief is not even a 20 year old should wear skinny jeans and I think your wife would concur--beside you'll be at home, so you could just wear your sweats--with your shirt tucked in.

My wife has a sense of humor, so she'd probably tell me to go for it.

She tends to over-compliment, so she'd probably tell me I'm the steamiest 57 year old man on the planet, and there's no reason why I should let all that eye candy go to waste.

Okay..so I'm confused. The pic before must've been taken a few years ago. And I guess a lot of guys grew beards during the lock down....and put on a little extra weight? I mean, if you're gonna be an entertainer, why not go for the gusto? He could preach on love, for Valentine's Day.

You know, as superficial as it is, I really don't get the worst spirit from Furtick. I think as far as megachurch entertainers go, he does it better than about anyone, and seems... well, sincere about it in a way. It's just so superficial that I don't know exactly what he is accomplishing, even in reaching that many people.

It's just sad that this is the extent many have to go to now to get a crowd. If he started actually teaching the word verse by verse he'd immediately start having his numbers drop, because they just want spiritual cookies and candy. So who's more to blame: The preacher or his audience who demands to be entertained, with a few scriptures thrown in to gloss it over?
