Jesus said, "But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in heart".

Men who are saved obviously should keep in mind this verse. However, I would also content that woman who are saved should also be mindful of this verse and ask themselves, 'does what I wear invite men to look at me with lust?'.

the bible has a lot to say about the way women and men dress.....God said it is an abomination for a women to wear anything that pertains to a man, or for a man to wear women'g garments

Deuteronomy 22:5 (KJV)
5 The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the LORD thy God.

some will say this is the old testament. but notice God called it an abomination.....an abomination never changes from OT....To NT

no christian woman would dress on purpose in a way that would reveal her cleavage.
Perhaps for her husband she might or a particular man that she is trying to attract.

I do think that sexual attractiveness gets a bad rap because of this verse, though. Simply finding a woman (or man) sexually attractive is not lust. Lust implies an intent--the intent to have sex with someone if you could. Jesus is saying that if you have that intent, then you may as well have already done it--the intent is as bad as the actual act.

You can find someone sexually attractive, though, and still not wish to have sex with them even if given the opportunity. It's kind of the same distinction as there is between admiration and coveting--you can admire your neighbor's new sports car without plotting in your heart to make it your own. There are no commandments against admiration or attraction; the commandments are against adultery and coveting.

Can looks be a curse?
There was a pretty girl who was asked if she could be made up to look ugly.
After a period of time she stopped wanting to stay like this, because of the different
way people reacted to her.

It is sad when how we look defines the value we feel we have.
Speaking to my wife and daughters they are very aware how they dress effects how
much attention or otherwise they get, and only because of this.

It then becomes a way you value yourself.
As believers do we behave differently to people depending on their dress?
Do we encourage to know the people we meet and not let it be superficial?
The world is all about impressions and what you appear to be, not what you are, which
is where it all falls apart.
My daughter has such beauty that she has worked as a photography model. Her looks has been a defining influence in her life because it was so overwhelming. 'She felt threatened if she tried to walk in town alone, men actually moved close and pinched her, She had a hard time dating because often she was simply shown off but not spoken to or visited with. She was only for display. To go to work modeling was to sit smiling and posing, but no thinking or doing something was involved. Boring. She has been turned down for jobs because they felt she must not have both beauty and ability. She married an older man who has achieved so much that he wasn't intimidated by her beauty and relates to her as the person she is. A doctor told her she had so much beauty on the outside, but her ex rays showed a misshapen inside.

I fully concur with your estimation on this topic of discussion. Without intent or motive there is no lust.

There is nothing wrong with desire as that is very much a healthy ambition. In a prospective relationship leading to marriage sexual attractiveness is often a must as it is a key component of the chemistry between a man and a woman contemplating marriage. I will also say that an attractive quality, like beauty, is in the eyes of the beholder.

There is nothing wrong with romantic physical intimacy between a married couple but first you must get to that point. As for my own personal experience I find my wife to be sexually alluring and that she absolutely stirs the passion of desire within me.

Sometimes people get stuck up on appearances they never see to the hurting heart.

I find it sad that some would condemned another based on clothes, without even knowing their story.


If you meet someone you think is dress like a slut or prostitute, would you talk to them?

Would you be kind and loving enough that they would trust you with their story?


How their father raped them when they were 8 and has been selling themselves to get food ever since? Homeless and broken, would you even care?

Yeah an extreme example, but unfortunately the story of way too many women.

God sees ones heart.

As some said in the thread, you could be dressed as modest as a nun and still be a seducer.

It's not clothes but the heart of a person that matters.

Do you seek casual sex or do you see God's heart and love as He intends?

The interesting thing about clothing is we can use it to hide or we can wear it to glorify God. We can change these clothes when they become dirty. But in heaven they wont be dirty, so there will be lot less laundry to do!

Amen the church is representation of his glory not a source of it.

One reason the hair covering for woman and hair unconverted for the man new testament ceremonial laws was introduced. It seems to be hid under a bushel basket today most churches have separated it from the other part of the same ceremony. (1 Corinthians 11) Bread and wine. Together they paint the picture of the gospel the wedding supper we will receive in the new heavens and earth. .When the veil is removed from the bride and we are clothed in the glory of His righteousness..

The head of every man used to represent Christ not seen, is the anointing Holy Spirit of God. ; and man as the head of the woman. The woman who represents the whole bride of Christ the church as that in which we will be when we do receive our new bodies .. She is a glory to man who represents Christ. And God did not leave her without a glory of her own Her hair, it must be covered. Seeing the only glory to be seen is that which represents God, the glory of faith, the unseen Holy Place.

In that way every man praying or declaring the word of God having his head covered, dishonors his invisible head, Christ the High Priest after the new testament side of the reformation. .

That turned things upside down for faithless Jew .The reformation had no effect. Bonnets, skull caps are still worn by their priest as with Catholicism. A sign that the veil is not rent and we would return back to the old order. When there was Kings in Isreal... walking by sight as shadows of the true through the ceremonial laws . Like nothing happened, the veil remains intact.

Christian women should wear anything they want if it's not revealing; it just goes without saying. But many so-called Christian women have been more influenced by their friends and the culture than Christ. I always wonder if they don't know their clothing should be concealing or if they just don't care. I'm tending toward the latter.

wear something that says what I have is a gift not for all to see or have. wear things that say you are costly and valuable not easy and cheap.

my own opinion is that she should wear whatever is modest appropriate for the occasion, comfortable and doesn’t have the potential to inspire lust or impropriety of thinking in another.

But that’s only what I think after reading scripture . The issue for a woman wearing very revealing clothes is that it entices a lot of improper thinking in certain people and so we should never partake of anything that is involved in that darker side of the fence

modesty and appropriateness is an attractive quality in a woman for any sort of godly aspiring man but as Solomon said a wayward and enticing woman is a deceptive rot to the soul of a man but the flesh always responds to the flesh

men and also women should just dress appropriately and comfortably and mind the thoughts that a revealing outfit can entice

You should be able to dress as you like. God did say come as you are. The Christian women I know tends to know what's appropriate and what's not.

This is a long ago zombie thread............

However, reading some of the lately added comments, I have to wonder if anyone actually reads Scripture?

The Apostle Paul taught on this very subject, yet, it is true, the Church today is in COMPLETE denial of his teachings........well, ALMOST all of his teachings, there is one wee teaching that they build Denominations around...... :)

How people dress effects people in different ways. Some of those people who are effected could be happy and encouraged and others might be offended and stumble.

We should keep weaker people in mind. I know that's hard sometimes because we just want to live and do what we want, but the reality is we don't know what everyone is going through. Even if you dress modestly, it can be enough to make other people fall into lustful temptation and, because of their lack of self-control, they could stumble. Enough stumbling can sometimes shipwreck someone's faith, we just never really know what someone is going through.

I have a friend who lives in a tropical climate and dressing modestly isn't really a valid option. Light skimpy clothing is common due to the sweltering heat. It's either roast in modest clothing and keep people from going into lustful overdrive or wear light skimpy clothing and maintain a level of comfort and safety.

At some point, too much clothing can be a health and safety issue in certain climates. I think we should just try to do the best we can and attempt to find options that are modest yet versatile enough to compliment the climate. I think God does look at the heart and sees why people do what they do and judges people on a case by case basis.

There is a difference between dressing to be attractive and make the best of the body God gave us to live in and trying to attract lust.

Our models and actresses and actors today are advertising that they consider sex as satisfying earthly lust rather than as the two becoming one in the wonderful teamwork of marriage. Women need to be aware of the messages they are sending via their clothing and take take the message is only "I honor the body God gave me" and not the sex for lust's sake message. Today, that can be as simple as not wearing a split skirt.
