Was reading one book in which it said that it was better to go do ministry two by two...and then (this was written by a man, go figure) that single women arent called to go because they neeed a 'covering' i.e a husband

so what about Gladys Aywarld and Jackie Pullinger then. Where they not called by God to go?

I can think of many many single women who didnt have husbands doing Gods work on missions in other lands. Besides, if you have to pack up and take all your family with you isnt it more expensive plus privoding separate schooling for your children too?! Mission kids dont go to native schools oh no cant have that.
They end up staying in separate compounds and living a double life in which they know they are priveliged and can return to their homeland at any time. (Usually after four years, is how some missions are run)

Why do you keep reading those books?
I remember asking in a post some time ago what book/source it was you were citing. I don't remember what post, don't worry about it. What book did you read this in? It's always helpful to cite the material. By the way, I never doubt what you mention, just curious of the sources.
But I'm more interested in what you were talking about where the author wrote, "single women arent called to go because they neeed a 'covering' i.e a husband". What was the reason the author gave for this position? They usually give a reason(s).
ok the book is Missionary Principles and Practices by Dr Bahjat Batarseh
Reasons was his own belief 'I think it is better not to send them alone but as a group or with family. Local men can target single missionary woman and this can cause great problems. On the other hand, many of them have been great blessings in many places in spite of this'
then cites ecclesiastes 4:9-12 (two are better than one scripture) and some others where Jesus sent two by two
Then it says the man is the head of the woman in Corinthians and the. waffled on about The lord Jesus not sending women alone except in the case of Mary Magadaleme and the samaritan woman and thatwas not to a foreign country
Then he tries to say the Lord didnt send women in the Old Testament even though thats not true and there were prophetesses.
So its really not because there are scriptures for both but it was just his belief....that local men target single missionary women but I think well so what dont you think single women ALREADY know that?!
even if you are married or a man you'll be targeted anyway...! Being single doesnt make you any less effective. Besides, the women that did end up going alone went because no man would even dare go where they were going, they werent brave enough! The women went because God called them to go, and their hearts were for the lost, the poor, the children etc the ones many other christian men had completely dismissed or didnt even care for.
I thought of writing some notes in the margin for anyone picking up this book (was a former pastor who donated it to a church library) but the back of the book was full of a 3 page LIST OF ERRORS at the back.
I was not impressed. Is this the kind of book pastors are reading reinforcing chauvinistic views.

Ok let’s think big picture. If men and women were equally capable physically, they wouldn’t have men’s and women’s divisions in the Olympics. If you take one hundred random men and one hundred random women and send them to survive in the wilderness who’s coming out a month later? Don’t be offended men were just built differently. You can beat a man with a stick longer than you can beat a woman before they die. Some missionaries were definitely beaten with sticks. You can’t take a handful of success stories and balance it against the hundreds of women (nuns) who have been kidnapped, beaten, raped, killed and eaten. Sure that happens to dudes also but if there was a thief, he would be more likely to target a woman or a man and a woman compared to a couple of dudes. Don’t base generalizations on the exceptions. Base them on the norms. I wouldn’t want my daughter going out to strange lands with dangers everywhere. It’s just impractical.

I went off on my own and so did my sister in fact women do it all the time in this generation (not on a mission, but for study, or OE..overseas experience) KNOWING the dangers. Refugee women do it cos they have to. some women leave their homes because if they STAY they will get killed, raped or beaten!
men get targeted ...Grahame staines, the Elliot guy...and their wives survived to spread the gospel.
There is always a danger with the gospel.
So you would limit your daughter just cos shes female but go ok your son can go, what if BOTH duaghters are called. What if your daughter went with your son. What if YOU went with your daughter.
Who says women cant spread the gospel YOU or God, just because they dont compete against men at the Olympic games? Dont you think WOMEN need to hear the gospel as well. How is a man going to reach women? Spreading the gospel isnt the exact same thing as going into battle! Its not a war reserved for men..our weapons are NOT carnal
do women have to wait till their dads are DEAD before they go anywhere?
those mission born babies will need a lot more than what a host country could provide....and if the husband is taking all his wife and children on missions if they are school age they may require education which the host country lacks, so then they need to send teachers to teach their own children...and so on and. so forth. Ok which is more practical. Oh but they are only there for four years or so

Alright, I think you're good to go into the mission field. So what country to you going to?
the mission field is already in my own country but I would go wherever God calls me to go if it was somewhere else...its not like you really get to CHOOSE which one like a pick and mix! The one thing you get to choose is whether to obey or not.
My testimony is boring.. I lived in a Christian home and hardly ever got in trouble. However I had a divorce and that could be used to how it strengthened my walk with Him. Sometimes he puts you through situations to bring us back to Him. I just hope others can see Christ love through me.
you can help fellow divorcees who feel ripped apart after the divorce. A lot of people think marriage is the epitome of being christian. Maybe it because ppl asociate churches with weddings, I dont know.
Because you have suffered, you can relate to others.
Jesus suffered for us...while excruciating pain on the cross is not something many people these days experience He does know what its like to have a broken heart and to be betrayed.
Interesting thread. Thought provoking questions. It's good to approach this topic of sharing the Gospel with intention.
In what ways do you spread the gospel?
For me, it's in my books, online videos, online interactions, and occasionally face to face. Oh, and when I lived in real neighborhoods, I would leave gospel tracts in all the mailboxes every so often. Once in a while there would be unusual circumstances, like God telling me to go into downtown Baltimore to hand out Gospel literature and then direct me to talk to someone. That hasn't happened in a while, which makes me realize I haven't been doing a good job of listening to God's voice lately.
Does being single help, or hinder?
Definitely hinder. As a single man who is getting older, I'm more and more alone and disconnected from others. COVID was especially bad as I was looking for a church just prior to it and my church attendance just evaporated when things went crazy here in MD. Feeling very cut off, have been for years. I feel like a good wife would bridge that gap between myself and couples, or kids. A single man is looked at with suspicion in many ways, especially when out trying to share the Gospel in the streets or when trying to connect with others socially.
Do I have a testimony? If so, how do you share it?
I've shared it many times in churches, and likely will do so again when I seek church membership at a new church. I share it in person with people I know well. I'll share parts of it with people I don't know well but usually not the whole thing. It's rather long and involved. Maybe I will share it here sometime.
The suffering and learning experiences I can definitely help and relate. Most of my life I have been a goodie two shoes and a mamas boy lol. Always tried to do the right thing, even though I’ve screwed up (don’t we all). I’m not trying to discredit my learning experiences, hopefully God can use me to help someone else who might have struggled with similar things I went through. Thank you for the encouragement.
